Funko during the Mike Becker era sold to Target, Walgreen's and other large retail stores.
We sell often to big distributors who once in a while will put an older product like Homer series #1, Stewie Series#1 etc. into a large store. These are currently in target now.
As a general rule it makes no sense to sell to a mass discounter with current products. I was also told by this distributor who placed our products in Target that the retail is $9.99.
Funko often releases a few products that make sense in more "mass" type stores. Simpsons, Family Guy and Peanuts are such licenses are such licenses. Other licenses like Mad Monster Party, Hanna Barbera, Count Chocula, Speed Racer etc. obviously do not translate well into "mass".
Funko will always strive to attain a balance of big licenses and small licenses such as Hawaiian Punch, Woody Woodpecker, Chilly Willy etc..
For FunKo to make it as a business, we must do a little of both..
How else could we make 12" El Kabong's!!!!
And silly stuff like 7 foot Wally Gators..
Mike Becker did a wonderful job of striking this balance, I only hope to do the same...
