Heroes Con in Charlotte -- photos added
This weekend is the Heroes Convention in uptown Charlotte, NC, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Last year it drew over 20,000 attendees, so this year they have expanded it to the entire Charlotte Convention Center.
Yesterday they announced a last minute guest - the legendary Jim Steranko. Here is the link for the Comic Con: http://www.heroesonline.com/heroescon/
Is anyone from the forum attending? Brooks, his brother and I are going on Saturday. It's our first time going and we're really looking forward to it! We have friends that go every year and they love it! Plus when we went to the VA Con earlier this year, the artist we met there, Matt Slay, said this was one of his favorite Cons to have a booth at!
I know Harrison's Comics has a huge booth set up, Convention Exclusives will be there, not sure what other vendors will be there. Plenty of comic book stores of course, and plenty of cosplay!

I have never been, but I wanted to go this year. But there is too much on the calendar, so I could not make it work. I have heard from a number of the local comic guys that it is a great show.
Maybe next year!
And enjoy!

It's about 4 - 4.5 from us, but heck, that's not that bad in the grand scheme of things. From what I have heard it is quite the Con to attend. Many many comic book guys are there. Comic book artists love this Con, or so I have heard. My friend that went last year came home with so many cool comic book artist prints and awesome photos she took at the event, I was so jealous. We ended up booking a room in Concord, NC for Friday night (literally right outside Charlotte) and are driving in Friday night. We were going to drive in Saturday but decided to head in Friday instead. Brooks has been to Concord before and said there are plenty of fun things to do around there!
And they have a Carabbas!!!

I wish I could go. The boyfriend and I going to the beach this weekend... It would have been great to meet another funatic/ECU fan . Charlotte is a lot of fun though! So many places to go eat and out around town. Plus, if you have time, you should go to Carowinds. Just be prepared for crazy traffic. I hope you guys have an awesome time though!

The greater Charlotte area is great for cons. Last weekends was ConCarolinas which is a big sci-if con. It's getting bigger each year and next year's guest of honor is George RR Martin. I won't be escorting him to that one but I do get the honor every now and again.

I wish you lived a little closer so I could just tag along! 5 1/2 hours is a lot for me to drive by myself if I did decide to go...

Re: Heroes Con in Charlotte this weekend
Well we made it to our first Heroes Con, barely, as the drive there was scary as heck at times with the weather and Tropical Storm Andrea. In fact, at one point we saw a sports car 30 ft in front of us spin out, lose control and cut across three lanes of traffic and go into the ditch kicking up water all around the vehicle but never once rolling over!! Luckily we were the only car near it at the time and I wasn't that close to him so i didn't have to slam on my breaks to avoid hitting him (yes, I was driving at the time)! But once we got past the bad weather it was fine. What can I say, we are that dedicated when it comes to comic books, artists and Pops!!
We met so many great comic book artists during the show and saw so much great work! And of course found many vendors selling Pops!! We even got a great deal from Harrison's Comics which I will post in the Pop Hop, and I met the owner, Larry too. I took quite a few Cosplay photos while we were there. Some of the costumes were excellent!
Star Trek Captain Riker and Khan
Ghostbuster's car
Brooks with a Scout Trooper
Gotham Supercar
Zombie Trooper
Captain Jack Sparrow
Batman (Cat Woman wouldn't stand still!!)
Deadpool
Madmax Roadwarrior character
Scarlet Witch and Dr. Doom
Umbrella Corpration Guard and Post Apocalypse Chic
Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn
Jawa and Storm Trooper
Black Spider-Man
Cat Woman and Joker
Ironman
Indiana Jones

Glad you all enjoyed the photos!!
We really enjoyed the Cosplay part of the Con too, Claire! It amazes me how creative they get with their costumes! The details are awesome!! Some even had the voices down perfectly!
Many were talking about heading out to SDCC as well. Even the artists were looking forward to that too! Can you imagine, doing Cosplay and traveling to all the Cons? I can see the artists doing it, but you'd have to seriously love what you do and have the bank account to support your travel expenses to hit up all the Cons if you are into the Cosplay. That's dedication!!

Looks like it was a good one!
I have to get it on the calendar for next year. It is not that far of a drive. And my wife has family in the area, so there is a place to stay.

Awesome pics, Rose. Looks like Deadpan was especially well equipped with weapons and stuff......
Also, I really like Brooks' choice of foot ware. Looks like he could jump up to the rafters in those puppies!

Thanks Craig! Deadpool was a trip! He was so into his character, acting all sexy and comical. You could tell he was really into it!! And he loved being photographed!
Brooks always wears the right shoes, he's smarter at that than I am, plus he's a runner so he buys sensible shoes!
