IMO Qui Gon is different because it is the first and only mold of a major character, where Boussh is a variant. I'm thinking Indy with skull prices like 115 to 200.

I hear you! NYCC is just killing me, they've hit me on nearly every series I'm a completist on- Walking Dead, Rides, Ridez (and PoC and Strawberry Shortcake for my GF) and now the one that I thought was done, complete, finito and in the books- Universal Monsters. This is a good news/ bad news situation, I'm totally stoked to see all of these awesome pieces I must have, but financially the fallout will not be pleasant lol

Thankfully, I think I'll be relatively ok. I really only NEED Kitty Pryde...and maybe the Storm Dorbz. I know Indy won't be in stores, but I'd try to get him if he were. I put my name on the "list" for the glow Wolfman, although I'm not in dire need of him. Aside from those, there really aren't many I need. I think I'll try to get Behemoth for the wife, and maybe Sally, but that depends on funds next week. The Doctor Strange box is coming out of my bank Friday, so that's already a hit to my paycheck, so we'll see how this goes, haha.

Overall, I'm pretty sad about this year's NYCC releases.

Why? Because I friggin want em!! Sigh. There are 16 of those little buggers I want for my shelf. Sigh. Being a completionist has it's disadvantages sometimes. And this time is one of them. There are 16 I really want, 5 I desperately need, and 2 that I will shrivel up and die if I don't get them.

The "Darkest" Night Batman aggravates me. That one is a hard pass for just being messed up. Does that bother anyone else?

The Pop itself looks great. I understand where you are coming from. If you think about it, it's a smart move on Funko's part making both the White Lantern and Darkest Night Batman re-sculpts exclusives to NYCC. It adds the appeal of being an exclusive, which will most likely drive up sales. I'm still a sucker for DC Pops, so I'm going to be all over it. lol

I more so meant that they are calling the Blackest Night Batman the Darkest Night Batman now.

I wonder if this was because of exclusivity contracts for Blackest Night Batman Pop where they had to call it something else.

Sigh Just when I thought I could relax after the hubbub over SDCC and the hunting of all SDCC Harleys and Jokers, along comes NYCC. Only 2, possibly 3, I need but still. Here's hoping Trunks, Killing Joke Joker, and possibly Chef Deadpool (although P is already getting a couple Deadpools for Christmas so I may skip this one) are Gamestop exclusives so I can get these at lunch. I unfortunately don't work in the city where our Hot Topic is. I live there, just never can get over there.

I'm really concerned this year because of the locations. FYE seems to be getting two things I want and Barnes & Noble getting 1, possibly 2... Box Lunch possibly has 1 and Hot Topic has nothing. Which is my problem, Hot Topic is 5 minutes away and I can get to B&N relatively easy if I can plan ahead (about 20-30 minutes away), but FYE is an hour away and Box Lunch is in other states. If it's anything like the Sex Bob-omb release, FYE will go up while I'm driving home and sell out too fast for me to get them. Who knows about BL ](*,) I remember when Hot Topic was the only place that really had exclusives, why can't we go back to those days? lol

Not to mention we still don't really know what's going on with it all. The blog post says the shared exclusives and retailers will be announced on Thurday the 6th... but what they don't say is if that is a preview night and they'll be on sale the next day (Friday the 7th) like with SDCC or if they'll announce them on the same day they're out to buy. Or if Barnes & Noble will even have them in store, with SDCC they had an event planned but there's nothing on their website for NYCC.

yeah, I wish Toy Tokyo wouldn't get so many exclusives, if I can't get that Mega Man then I will lose interest in getting the commons and the GameStop exclusives. That will save me $60ish but that only helps me lol I pretty much lost hope in getting the Scott Pilgrim Pops, which will make me consider not expanding my line to get the commons... and the Yogi Bear Dorbz are way too limited to be for something so popular. I have no chance getting those if only 500 are made in the world lol

I hear you! NYCC is just killing me, they've hit me on nearly every series I'm a completist on- Walking Dead, Harry Potter, Rides, Ridez (and PoC and Strawberry Shortcake for my GF) and now the one that I thought was done, complete, finito and in the books- Universal Monsters. This is a good news/ bad news situation, I'm totally stoked to see all of these awesome pieces I must have, but financially the fallout will not be pleasant lol

Is there a Harry Potter one I missed?

Oops! No, there was one on an early rumor list for SDCC but it didn't happen. Which is probably why they don't like us posting about rumors :-)

TT is never shared is it? I've been waiting for megaman series since I started collecting pops. If I can't get my hands on the megaman pop or the metallic green ranger for a decent resale price I'll prolly just stop collecting. I know that sounds dramatic but seriously these are the ones I've been waiting for for 3 years and basically I see myself having to pay $100 for the green ranger and I'm not doing that. I heard that SDCC this year was litterally just scalpers loading up at the Funko booth and then going back in line to sit and wait 24 hours to do it again. I suppose that's why they made the new system for NYCC

Dude seriously? This makes no sense...just stop collecting lol

Not judging but this sounds spoiled...it reads like if I can't get the piece I want I'm going to take my ball and go home. Life in general just doesn't work like that my friend...good luck?

TT exclusives aren't shared, nor should they be. Personally I HATE that half of these things can be bought in stores because aside from LE pieces what's the point in actually attending the con and going to the booth? I dreamed about going to SDCC for years to get the exclusives...when I finally went for the first time, you could get half the stuff in stores...felt like a booby prize even getting in line for the Funko booth but I still enjoyed it, waited my 2-3 hours in line and didn't complain...people want to get the "exclusives" and Funko makes more money cool...but now people EXPECT exclusives to be in stores because the characters are popular?

SDCC's Funko booth this year was NOT scalpers lining up day after day...I hate when people use hearsay as fact to color their opinion. I was there and I know people who didn't even go that goes pieces I wanted...I am not crying or complaining, but should I feel some kind of way about it? I dunno what to say, but I'm going all 4 days...if I get stuff cool, if I don't, it happens and that's life...I just don't get the I'll give up collecting aspect of the post...its pretty out there to me...

No, their exclusives will be at the con and if they have any left over they will post them on their site after the con.

Eh, you never know. I thought for sure I would have to pay 100+ for the chrome Batmobile TT SDCC exclusive, but I had no problem getting it off of their site after the con for retail price. It's way, WAY too early to panic and throw in the towel lol

It's not "spoiled" in the slightest to have interests you genuinely care about and be pretty upset when you can't fulfill long time goals of those interests due to god-awful businesses that have no business carrying exclusives in the first place carrying them anyway. I can totally understand your POV about actually being at the Con and being excited to get the stuff but...not everyone makes it to the con. There are quite literally hundreds of people who have true passion for their hobbies that don't get there for reasons of finance, personal business, and what have you. But should we have to pay through the roof prices for EVERYTHING because of it? They still make plenty of things that are purely Con only. (I mean Qui-Gon Jinn? That's something for sure.) It's really the company throwing the little guy a bone for once when they put certain things in stores. We're only human. We can't help but get upset when the things we really want are impossible for us to attain. Even when there are other things we can. But for a guy to voice his opinion and then get this kind of criticism for it. That kind of response honestly is MY definition of "crying and complaining". I'm not looking to start an argument or even really a debate. But another thing everybody has is pet peeves. And pretentiousness over collectible figures is mine.

I made it a point to NOT say he was being spoiled, but that his POV sounded like it. I'm pretty careful about not coming off like a jerk to people & everyone's opinion I show respect to even when I don't agree with it. I've been collecting things like toys, comics and stickers and cards for over 30 years and have been to many many conventions, etc. Only recently with companies offering convention exclusives for non attendees (which I don't have any issue with) have I seen the mentality develop where people feel it should be easy to get these things. I understand why it's done, but back in the day if you didn't get to the Con and you wanted something, you knew you'd have to trade for it, find it via another collector, etc. Just how it was. Things are different now and it's cool you can get that stuff all over, but when someone says to me...man if I can't get a TOY that I really want for the price I want, I'm going to STOP collecting altogether that says something kind of funny to me. Let's keep in mind this is as you point out a hobby. It's not a life goal or something more meaningful than that. And this is from a guy who's traveled thousands of miles to pursue the same hobby, so again it's not being judgmental, it's my opinion of another person's opinion. No one's attacking anyone, insulting them or being condescending. So let's keep in mind that a respectful difference of an opinion doesn't equal and attack.

As tres responded TT makes it a point to also offer a number of their exclusives on their site after the Con & MANY people on this forum have had luck getting them and at the Con prices, so there's still a chance to get these if you're not attending. Btw I'm not sure how anything I said was being pretentious, but its all good...:)

Oh, good! The old "con exclusives" or "no con exclusives" debate. I was eagerly awaiting its return.

No debating involved...I'm good with it because if people can't go they have a chance. To be clear I just HATE the mentality that came with it that things should be EASY to get and for the prices we all wish we could get em for... they're clearly not exclusives if you can get them in stores by the way... ;-)

It's all good, I wasn't ragging on you. To be honest, I used to write posts a lot like yours. I would go to SDCC every year, fight the crowds, pay the money, stand in line, and it was cool to know that I "fought for" something only people who attended and paid blood, sweat, and tears could own. To this day, I don't understand the completest entitlement argument. Yes, it sucks to have a gap in your collection. You will live. It's a toy. You either pay the inflated prices or live without it. There's plenty of Pops! I missed out on. Headless Ned! Would have loved one of those! Not going to pay 100$ (or whatever it's up to now). I collect what I like. I have a few Batman pops!. The Batman versions I like. I don't need to collect every single variant ever. To me, that's less about loving the property and more about ocd.

And yet, I do understand the disappointment of not being able to get something cool. I suggested a long time ago that the "bought on the con floor" versions should be one color and the "bought online outside of con" should be another. You can still have the mold, the character, etc. You just have a different color. However, people complained that they would want both and they wouldn't be able to complete their collections.

And it just went on and on, with everyone getting more excited and heated.

There are in box and out of box people. There are exclusive and non-exclusive people.

I just don't think it's fair to say that Funko is doing people a disservice by offering special things at cons. They aren't personally trying to ruin your day. They don't know you. In fact, they are trying to do something cool for people who attend. Yes, I know not everyone can go. But that's life. I'll never own a yacht and drink Krystal. So, disappointment, okay. Enraged entitlement, perhaps a bridge too far? (Not saying anyone here exhibited that, I'm speaking from past experience)

I wouldn't sweat it with the megaman pop. There's going to be tons of other variants coming out for him. If that pop resales for more than $20, then that's just wrong on us greedy humans lol. But you're not going to die if you don't get it.

PS: if youre going to stop collecting, ship me your collection for free please.

Ice04242 wrote:TT is never shared is it?

It just annoys me that key pieces of collections are being made as exclusives that even if you go to the con are sometimes hard to get! More than anything TT just annoys me. I'm being butthurt yes it's true but at least I'm not the people griping that the pop they paid $100 for is now worth $20. I'm not about it for the money I'd just love to actually be able to finish one set.

Also when it comes to the SDCC comment, it's not hearsay. It's called I have two friends that were at the con and both witnessed it happening. People lining up forever before to get to the raffle. Then win and get into the booth, and then immediately get back in line to camp dos the raffle again so I don't know why two of my close friends would just make something up out of thin air but to each their own

brooklyn_geek wrote:Only recently with companies offering convention exclusives for non attendees (which I don't have any issue with) have I seen the mentality develop where people feel it should be easy to get these things. I understand why it's done, but back in the day if you didn't get to the Con and you wanted something, you knew you'd have to trade for it, find it via another collector, etc. Just how it was.

Totally agree. I've been collecting a long time too, right at 30 years like you. I bet you and I could share some great war stories about what it was like collecting toys before eBay.... and the Internet lol Oh man the hours I spent on the phone and pouring over monthly mailing lists!! Not to sound like a crotchety old man, but these days people want stuff and they want it NOW and they want it CHEAP. And not only that but they think they are ENTITLED to that. No one is "entitled" to toys or anything else in life. You want it bad enough, well you have to work for it. You do that by figuring out how to go to the con and get a spot in line, or by staying up all night F5'ing a web site waiting for the exclusives to go live, or by working hard to make some extra money to pay a premium for it, or by networking and making friends that collect and helping each other score hard-to-find items. When it gets to the point that you're not willing to work for it and you're just angry at the world because you can't get the toy you want on your terms, well then it's time for a different hobby!

EDIT- just to clarify, I'm not directing my comments at Ice04242 or anyone else, it's just kind of a general comment about the shift in attitude I've seen in toy collecting. Not just Pops, but the many other things I collect as well.
Howdy, I'm Tres :-)

Fugitive Toys will have an exclusive this year. I don't know what though.

Toy Tokyo line does not seem worth it for a Blackest Night Batman Pop I already have. This sounds crazy:

I want the Green ranger above all else.

I was also wondering when Fugitive would announce theirs if any? By this time last year they already put up a preorder for both i think
