I'm super bummed. I wasn't able to get him at NYCC, And I've currently been laid up in the hospital for a couple days and made sure to set my alarm so I'd be up and waiting with my hot spot on and STILL couldn't get him tonight. Oh well, guess I'm rolling over and going back to sleep now

Re: Toy Tokyo Planet Vegeta...
This, coupled with the PS4 debacle yesterday, has pretty much ruined collecting for me. It's impossible to get excited for something I genuinely adore anymore. If these things sold out and I knew they were now in homes of like minded individuals like myself who actually care about the pieces it wouldn't be so horrible. But that's not the case. People bought them solely to flip for a profit. An insane profit. I guess because I'm not broke I can't process wanting money over something awesome. I had really hoped Vegeta would be scooped up by genuine collectors and there wouldn't be pages of the Pop for sale at 10x retail. I'm done with Pops. The fun is gone. I've noticed it getting worse for months but this is just ridiculous. How many of these flippers even know who Vegeta is? All they see is a sticker and fast cash from idiots who pay them. Idiots is too nice a word but I'm not invested enough emotionally in this to come up with something more appropriate. Congrats to fellow members who did manage to get one. Glad they didn't all go to the secondary market.

Pops have become extremely popular in the last year, more people have found out about them which means flippers have found out about pops, I know just from my daily pop hunting I come across a lot of people in stores that are flippers no interest at all in pops or collecting, it's only going to get worse and harder to obtain more "rarer" pops.

I would think that more than 70% of those who bought would be real collectors. We only see the posts of the flippers but not much from the real collectors.

not sure why people assume it sold out fast because of "flippers", us collectors all sat there just like everyone else. everybody had the same chance, unfortunately stock was limited and sold out in 2 mins. im starting to see alot of bitter people who complain about flippers! not needed, just collect, dont buy from those people, build your collection...
im sure sneakerheads flip for hundreds in profit, highly doubt a bunch of them would start collecting pops to sell for smaller profits...
pops are getting popular, its as simple as that. more and more collectors means harder to obtained items! should funko up or re-release retired or hard to find pops? imo, NO... collectors pride themselves of having these grails, if everybody has them, it just ruins it for me. we all will have gaps in our collection, it makes collecting fun and more fulfilling when we start filling them in...

Re: Toy Tokyo Planet Vegeta...
Blasphemic Nephilim, I understand what you are saying. But I wouldn't give up on pops. I'll admit, I was tempted to buy one of the vegetas and flip it. But I didn't, it's just sad that flippers are getting this and not actual collectors. That's the problem with exclusives nowadays, they are so limited that not all people can get them and flippers sell them for insane prices, knowing they'll get easy profit off the desperate people willing to pay for it. I wish exclusives wouldn't exist, I mean, it's fun to have a zombie merle, but I know for a fact there are newer collectors on here who would love to see it as a re-release. Having just all pops be regular releases would be awesome, but now all funko has to do is repaint a figure and slap on anew name and a sticker and say it's a new pop. Examples would be JMO, Stinger (which isn't even movie accurate), reverse flash, etc. But, it saves money for them and they know people will buy them. But don't give up on pops, they are fun to colect and hopefully you don't take my response to seriously.

I have lured many hesitant friends into the world of Pop collecting. Because of me, 8 out of every 10 desks in my department have one or more Funko items sitting on them (usually a gift from yours truly). The dark side of spreading the Pop gospel is that we are also creating our own competition.

Re: Toy Tokyo Planet Vegeta...
I think Toy Tokyo did an amazing job with trying to keep it among actual collectors with the 1 limit rule.
Unless flippers have a bunch of friends or "employees" I don't see them grabbing a majority of the stock. The whole thing would have to be a elaborate operation to get more than the limit. I know flippers are out for profit, but that seems like a lot of work to go through, but then again, this "job" could be their only source of income so they need to get creative. Who knows?
Anyway, I really loved and appreciated Toy Tokyo's whole system. I think more online retailers need to be as sophisticated as Toy Tokyo today, preventing people from buying an unreasonable amount of figures and keeping them within the collector community.

I'm truly sorry that you don't find collecting fun anymore...but I'd be hesitant to say you know who is and who isn't a "genuine collector".
One could make the leap to assuming that you're not a "genuine collector" because you've given up over not being able to get this figure. I could get where you were coming from if there was absolutely no other option to get a figure of Vegeta than this one...but this is a repaint. You can still get him. It's the same thing with the PS4. Sony is already gouging you by charging an extra hundred dollars over and above for a fancy paintjob and a numbered plate.
Flippers wouldn't flip if people didn't buy from flippers. I spend way too much on my hobby as it is to buy extra to try to flip, but I can see why people do it. There is currently an active auction for one of the anniversary PS4s right now that is up to $8,100. If I paid $500 for my PS4 and someone offered me over $8,000 for it, I'd trip over myself to sell it to them.
Why don't you take a break and clear your head and then see why you started collecting in the first place. Maybe you'll find you still love it dearly, and you just got mad at it for something silly like burning your toast.
Good luck.

^ This. People making flipping their job and if actual fans and collector are desperate enough to pay the prices they will, it sucks but that's the game (I also hate the game). I oddly look at pops and toys in general like stocks, buy low and sell when it's at it's peak. I see these prices on ebay and I see people buying at these prices it makes me have second thoughts getting one for my coworker and instead put it on ebay, I wouldn't do that but damn I could use $145 I got textbooks to pay for

Re: Toy Tokyo Planet Vegeta...
The PS4 prices are beyond insane. I had one in my cart, hit checkout, and my cart was empty. Server issues. So I went through that same process. For an hour. Until it was finally sold out forever. For the extra $100 it's not just a paint job. They're bundling the camera and a vertical stand. Those two peripherals on their own add up to near $100 on their own so it's honestly a great deal. After that hour of torment I was quite distraught. Been an owner of Playstation products since the get go. Vegeta was very similar. Read the manga as a kid in the 80s and all of the anime, even the atrocious GT. He's probably my 3rd most favorite fictional character in any genre. I always adored the scene of him on Aria because that was hand drawn by Toriyama and the color scheme was spot on from the manga. I have DBZ statues and wall scrolls. LOTS of wall scrolls. Over 60. To say I was excited for this would be a gross understatement. I should clarify that in my previous post I was in no way assuming that flippers got the majority of what was in stock. What saddened me about it all is that they got any. That's unreasonable to think, I know. Some folk simply don't adore Pops the way I do. I currently have 428 of them. I've no idea if that makes me genuine or not, and upon rereading my post I can see how that could be misconstrued. My apologies for sounding pompous. I find it disheartening is all. Like, I wish I could ask why that much? You know? Where did they decide that a 10x price hike was okay for a Pop that's from a fairly obscure line in comparison to the other big money getters. But then I remember Alex from CWO and I'm reminded of how the secondary market is both a wonderful thing for acquiring missing pieces of a set and also a harsh thing for making some of those missing pieces completely unattainable. More so out of principal than price range, but unattainable nonetheless.

Re: Toy Tokyo Planet Vegeta...
Don't get me wrong my friend, I get you. I understand where you're coming from. I'm someone who didn't get Headless Ned Stark back when I could have. I'm also someone who would love to have a proto...but I don't have the extra cash to pay that much for one piece, be it a proto or a Ned.
I'm of the mind that you may want to think long and hard about what you love. Obviously you care about Pops if you've spent the time and money to acquire that many of them. Would you really want to give up just because you can't get one piece?
Also, my comments about your reference to what constitutes a genuine collector were not meant to be harsh, I was just looking to get you to keep in mind that some people fund their hobby by doing stuff like this. They can spend 15 bucks and get that Vegeta...and then turn around and sell him for 150 bucks! That's almost 15 new Pops for their collection and it only took a 15 dollar investment.
As for the PS4 thing, let's be fair here. The extra 100 bucks is for the paintjob and the numbered plate.
The camera and the stand are only a bonus in the deal if they don't charge you for them...and that's making allowances for the fact that you even WANT the camera and stand.
Right now on Gamestop there's a $400 PS4 bundle with a camera and the GTA V and The Last of Us games. They also have a stand for like 20 bucks. That's 80 dollars cheaper.
Anyway, we understand each other. I do sincerely hope you find your smile again and rekindle your love for Pops...even if you don't get the Planet Vegeta.
