Well, tbh, I didn't hate that as much as a lot of people did. It did bug me that it came out of nowhere, and mostly seemed to be a plot device for calming hulk down. My biggest issue was them changing who created Ultron. Seemed lazy to me when they could have just brought Ant Man into the universe sooner to give us Hank Pym!
At least that movie gave me a Hawkeye pop though!
Oh I see! I could see why they went with Tony Stark though, since we've followed his journey for about 7 years at the time and having him inadvertently create Ultron would feel like that stakes are more personal for him and for us. And it also fueled Tony's character arc in Civil War thru Endgame (his obsession with protecting those who he loves), so that kinda worked for Marvel

Although now that I think of it, Marvel does often take the easy way out by having A LOT of its recent villains have a personal connection to Tony Stark (e.g. Ultron, Zemo, Vulture, Mysterio). So I also see how it can be construed as just lazy writing.
Exactly. Don't get me wrong, Tony has plenty that he can improve on or make up for, but it was just lazy everything. Makes me wonder at the work they're going to have to do going forward now! Will we finally get villains that are arch-nemesis of other characters? This is so exciting!!
I totally get that it fueled his character arc, it just drove me nuts that of all the things to blame him for, it's something he didn't actually do. It served it's purpose, and I get it, I just didn't love it. But, what's done is done, and I'll just have to enjoy the next phase of movies!
