Pop Writers!

Postby Squird » Tue Nov 15, 2011 11:02 pm

Okay, so Funko went out on a limb and made a Poe wobbler. Being a fan of the Pop platform, I started wondering how a Poe Pop would look, and ultimately decided it would look pretty cool.

Then I expanded the line. I think Twain would translate well to Pop, and Hemingway, too (if he wore a bullfighter cape). Shakespeare would look kind of cool (start with Krusty, lop off the hair at the top).

Not sure who else they could do. Those sort of came to mind as being easily identified by non-English Majors. Any suggestions for others?

PS- I would absolutely love a Sheldon Cooper, Green Lantern shirt wearing, Pop.

Easily identifiable and popular (especially with me!) that haven't been listed yet:
Jane Austen
Oscar Wilde
Charles Dickens
Charles Dodgson aka Lewis Carroll

Identifiable and popular (but not with me....) that haven't been listed yet:
James Joyce
Truman Capote
Stephen King

Other ideas (that I sometimes like. or not. depends on my mood....) that have a certain identifiable look:
Hunter S. Thompson
William S. Burroughs
Jack Kerouac
Emily Bronte
Tennessee Williams
Nathaniel Hawthorne
Carson McCullers
Henrik Ibsen
Dante

(Love Shakespeare! Hate Hemingway!)

Hilariously irreverent ideas:
Barbara Cartland
Jackie Collins

I know Aratak could add a ton to this thread when he sees it!

I'd also love to see certain literary characters come alive in Funko form!

Dante could be fun. Put little devil horns on him.

I had Hunter Thompson, Oscar Wilde and Dickens on my second round list as well as that toilet joke writer guy. He's a solid number two.

In addition to writers...I think a whole line of historical figures might be cool.

I could not add much to your wonderful list, kind sir (oh, okay - I'd certainly do the romantic poets: Wordsworth (with his sister Dorothy), Coleridge, Keats (consumptive), Byron (club foot! Cape!), and Shelley. Okay, Mary Shelly, too. Emily Dickinson, Walt Whitman, and Robert Frost for an American contingent).

No love for Hemingway? From a business point of view, I'd think Funko could sell a stream of 'em in Key West.

Hunter S. Thompson ans Burroughs seem like no-brainers, I agree!

I like the Whitman figure. From a marketing standpoint, I can see expanding into historical figures. How about Napoleon? Wouldn't a Pop Napoleon be about life-sized?
