New Collector with some questions
Hey there! I found this forum last night and I didn't realize there were so many things about pop! vinyl that I didn't know.
I live near Toronto Canada and sadly most websites charge too much shipping so I just got to hunt. So far ive collected most of the rock icons (small collection i know) and after seeing this board I have some questions.
They used to be sold in tons of shops but now I can only find them in HMV, fast running out, Disney store which doesnt seem to re-stock and a killer comic book store in Toronto but I cant mission into the city all the time. Do you know of any other stores that should carry them in Canada?
What is a chase?
What is a SSDC? (did i remember that right?)
Why are some metallic?
How do you find the above mentioned?
How do series or waves work? Certain amount produced and then no more? Mass distributed? Once its gone its gone?
Am i gonna have difficulties tracking some older ones down?
Bought most of mine for 9.99, how much do they normally go for? Disney store at 12 and 16 seems to be too much.
and uh.... thats it!
Thanks for your help.

Re: New Collector with some questions
1. Chase is a term that refers to rare variants of a particular figure. Usually they have metallic paint jobs, or glow in the dark.
2. San Diego Comic Con
3. See #1 and #2, Funko makes some pop figures with metallic paint jobs as exclusives for Comic Con
4. Internet usually works, you'll find just about everything on Ebay or there are tons of other sites that sell pops.
5. Not really sure how this works. Some figures are a set number (12, 24, 480, 10,000, etc.).
6. Yes you will, some of the ones that were release recently are hard to find. There's high demand for these.
7. Price depends on the demand for the piece, and the rarity. $12 is a fair price for Disney series 3. A Glow in the Dark Boo Berry Pop (which there were only 24 made) have sold for as much as $250.00. A chase version for a particular piece (unless you find one at a store that doesn't really care about the difference), generally costs between $30 and $50.
Hope that helps.

Re: New Collector with some questions
Welcome! A good idea is to look for free shipping or buy multiple pop from the same seller to save on shipping. I never mind paying for a Pop but it stinks when your paying $5+ per Pop and your ordering from 6 different sellers

Welcome to the boards... Population 616.
sclarke03 did a great job answering your questions!
Can't speak for Ontario, but there are many other members from your region, and all are friendly!
Other places to check out other than HMV and Disney stores in Canada are:
Chapters/Indigo - only seen Star Wars so far
Best Buy/Future Shop - Marvel, DC and Star Wars
Toys R Us - Marvel, DC and Star Wars
I think Comic stores are your best bet to find your Music, Movies, and other Pops!

Man its been many years since I posted in a forum, forgot what warm welcomes they give you. Thanks for answering the majority of my questions. The hunt will be on! Sadly most of it will take place online but I have an empty bookshelf to fill!
One more thing, how do you find the chase ones? Do they just randomly ship to stores?

For sure! Soon as I find a cheap enough shipping rate the first on my list will be the movie ones, Freddy, Jason, Mars Attacks, V, Gotta finish my rocks collection with the Ramones and Bob Marley, Got the Sex Pistols on pre-order. Then I suppose I could focus on disney or dc....
Really hope they keep the rocks collection going.

Toys r us and Hot topic usually have a good selection of pops.
Walmart has some. Comic book/card stores tend to carry pops as well.
Happy hunting!
