prices starting to come back down to Earth?

Loki that went off this morning. $56.00 with free shipping. That is a lot closer to where I think they will settle at.

I hope so, 100+ dollars for non chase pieces is pretty crazy. It's not like 60 bucks is cheap, think it would be a good middle ground.

I wish I had two so I could take one out of the box. Oh well, at least I only paid $10 for mine :D

Yikes! I was in need of a few boxes, but if boxes make that much of a difference in value, Iam out of luck.

Ed this is different from the others, when your paying $75-125 it's ok to be picky with box condition at that point, I myself would love to get a bunch of wrecked boxed chases because well I open all of my Pop so the lower price would come in handy :D

Which boxes do you need?

I "need" a box for Boo, Sulley, Mr Incredible and maybe Stitch. Got a feeling the Monster Inc boxes will be hard to come by.

If Mr. Incredible and Stitch are at my local store for $6.99, I could just buy them and give the Pop to my niece to play with and send you over your boxes, do you need the plastic insides or just the cardboard?

As for Sulley/Boo, good luck with those 2, not sure if anyone would want to part with theirs. The good news is, there was some talk about monsters inc being "re-released" in other counties soon but look different, maybe the boxes of those might be a better chance for you, even though it might say "El POPo" on it

The problem with other countries will be the cost of shipping... I was looking at shipping from Mexico to the USA and it was close to $50... Ouch...

NO! Prices for Loki will climb and climb and climb! At least long enough for me to get rid of my extra, then they can hit rock bottom.

$50 shipping +$10 cost of pop is still cheaper than eBay. I'm sure if that new funatic from Mexico finds some, he could ship them for cheaper. I don't know the difference between Mexican customs and Canada, but it definitely doesnt cost that much to ship from Canada to US.

I wouldn't be so sure you could get it for $10... and if we are talking about the same new funatic... he was the one that said it would cost close to $50... :)

I count 22 Loki listings on Ebay completed since middle of January. I hope people are finally starting to wisen up and realize that they aren't as hard to come by as they think. Or I gotta imagine that everyone who "wants" a Loki bad enough to pay those high prices has one by now. I predict in a year's time we'll see these being sold for $30-$50 on Ebay.

Quick side note: I can't believe a January auction for a Loki/Thor combo ended at $0.50 w/ no bids...

I remember that auction .. though when you read through it .. the auction was actually for the picture of the Loki & Thor POP!s pictured in the auction ..

I'm thinking that was an auction from a member here .. but not sure .. :D

thats because i got most of the pieces i wanted POPs that is anyway. i didnt pay what the going rates were on ebay but it seemed that i bought a few of the DC chase pieces at around $49 and after i got a few they seemed to jump $20. loki as really crazy though, luckily i got it for free from LCS. i had better luck with members here than ebay. i think it was only about 5 or 6 DC chases i got on ebay most of the rest i got from other members.

i really only do the buy it nows on ebay my head got knocked around too much for me to remember bid times and get there at the end to put a bid in. the only way i win bidding is either if i snipe it at the end or i make a bid and than regret it, every time that happens i dont get outbid and win, every other time i bid on something with anytime left that i dont regret i get outbid and loose by a dollar

Bunch of Sullys just went for $75-100. Really nuts for a non-limited piece, no matter how hard they are to find.

If new cases of these Pops are coming out and they're indistinguishable from the early release, then my guess is...'in the tank'.

Actually, if what you're posting is true then I think we'll start to see values dropping sooner than that. There's no hiding things like this from the collector community.

Why would funko say Penguin is "retired" then send out more cases? I think EE and others are wishful thinking, just like my comic shop can still "order" loki, it doesn't do him much good heh

in another thread (the retired pops thread, maybe?) someone said that funko hinted at some "retired" pops not really being retired anymore. they warned not to spend too much on things that are rare right now. so with that, i wouldn't be surprised if we actually are going to get refreshes on some select pops -- thor, loki, penguin, riddler, han, greedo seem like the most likely candidates, since monsters inc stuff is done.

Just because an item is considered retired doesn't mean hey still don't have stock left in the warehouse.

It usually means that no more are going to be made, but you never know they could come out of retirement in a special/limited run or new colorway.

Well obviously in sports, it just hasn't been a great idea. However, I think with how many people are wanting these pops (the retired ones obviously have a huge demand) I think they would still make their money on them.

As for loki I do not think he will be 'brought back'

On their facebook page they have a contest to win mike and they have dropped several hints at loki being the prize for their next contest. I think the best we can hope for certain ones is to win them.

I highly doubt I will be winning any contests on their facebook page, so I will just continue living my life without a Loki. Maybe I'll find one in a year for something reasonable.

My thing is the hunt keeps a lot of people in it and going crazy searching. If stuff is running low and they just fire up the presses to make more and over saturate the market, it will be like comics in the 90's it pretty much killed the "collecting" comics idea. It's better to have high demand normal supply, then flooding the market and its EVERYWHERE to the point people just get sick of seeing them. It might be worth it short term money wise, but is it worth it long term?

well, if you miss out on new collectors because too many pops are expensive or impossible to find... then it could hurt in the long run, because you're possibly losing more customers than you're gaining. it's a fine line. ideally, i'd think, you want all your products to be somewhere in the middle -- not flooding store shelves, but also not reselling for $100 on ebay. since we're now reaching the point where the latter is happening, i think it makes sense to reissue some, in limited quantities.

with the exception of convention exclusives and whatnot.

ultimately, i think you can maintain 'collector-friendly' products by keeping up the chase concept. let the masses have the regular figures, but diehards have the glows and metallics. sadly, it seems like chases are getting less and less. why aren't there metallic versions of the latest DC pops? brian already said that yo gabba gabba wouldn't have chases. seems odd to me.

I don't think every line needs a chase. I'm not that big a fan of them. Sometimes they're okay, but most of the time the 'chase' variant isn't so different that you have to have it. I like the limited comic-con and funday pieces, because those are unique and limited to specific quantities and it feels like an accomplishment to get one, especially the 1-12, 24 or 96 pieces.

that's exactly what i like about chases. they're different, but not so much that my collection feels complete without'em. it accomplishes the very thing i'm saying -- hardcore collectors can work to get every different variation and chase pop, while others can simply pick up pops for fun, and hopefully without much effort.

nobody should be spending $100 for a regular release pop right now, at least... i think.

I agree. The variants are what should be expensive. Not the regular released piece. The chase are like half the price of a boo, mike, or Loki.
