How much did you spend at SDCC?

Postby edorice » Fri Mar 23, 2012 11:23 am

SDCC TIXS - CHECK
HOTEL - CHECK

So I was wondering what you SDCC veterans spent in Funko items last year alone. I have SDCC and another weekend getaway to budget for in July.

Thanks

Oh! How does the pre-buy work? A few people were mentioning pre-buy after Brian announced the special book that is coming out.

I put a link to last year's announcement (somewhere), but Brian will post it in a couple months probably...usually costs about $500 for everything that will be at the booth, other than giveaways, plus a "special" item, which last year was the glow boo berry pop...it ships usually in August, the shipping is covered in the $500....this is the way to go, and you don't have to lug a bunch of stuff around the con and ship it back to yourself either.

Hmmm, that might be interesting. I'm driving down though, so shipping wouldn't be an issue for me.

I notice you're going to be in the same hotel that Craig (Alleycat) and I are....if you need any help figuring out how to get to the con, etc., let us know.

I will be doing the pre buy this year as well. Less stuff to worry about. I am sure I will want to purchase other stuff though. I was hoping for less that $1000 including food for the week.

The of the coolest things about SDCC is you can walk around all day and just get the freebies! I love the swag, got so much cool stuff from avengers last few years.

My 1st year I easily spent around $750-$1,000 for exclusives, shipping, foods & drinks. An extra $400-$500 for airfare & I've always shared rooms with others to lower the hotel expense since it's just a place to crash after the Con festivities. Add any cash missed out by non-paid time off from work and you're looking at a pretty penny. It's best to find a money bag filled with hundred dollar bills before you make the trip! :)

You should make some funko fun money... With a funko freddy on it, in place of mr money banks (or whatever his name is)! I bet you'd get something for that originality of it :)

Another thing to consider, when at the Con, is Time vs. Money. Last year, I waited in my first Mattel line to obtain the FrankenBerry exclusive Hot Wheels car. It was an unorganized train wreck, and after waiting for about 20 minutes, they opted to stop the line at the woman ahead of me and wouldn't let the rest of us proceed. I told the guy in front of the woman that I would buy him the Back To The Future car if he'd buy my Frank (which he did!) but after that experience, I find that some things are worth heading to eBay and paying a couple of extra bucks (AND shipping costs) rather than deal with time/mood vacuums. Just my opinion....

I understand what you are saying...its my first time at the Con...I'll just probably gonna hit up the hasbro, kidrobot, and funko booths first. The only tickets I got was for Sunday...hoping they will still have the stuff I want but not getting my hopes up since it is the last day.

Some of the booths like mattel also do pre buys, but I think you have to pick the stuff up there in the hotel next to the con.

I've heard Hasbro's line is always long...but I got to at least try to get the Transformers and G.I. Joes exclusives. I grew up watching them. I've been trying to buy them for the last 5 years...it was easy to buy online in 2007-2008, but after that, it was impossible to purchase it online anymore. I would have it in my cart but couldn't check out...after an hour, I got through but the items weren't available anymore.

I'm gonna try to pre-buy but not much places does that...but I don't understand Funko's pre-buy. If they ship it to your home, why would you need to be at SDCC for? Can't you just pay for them online or over the phone?

I think I'm going to over spend at Comic Con also...when I went to Wonder Con, brought back memories of going to comic conventions when I was a kid. Got to admit it, it felt really good...the only difference now is that I have a bigger budget than when I was young hahaha

I found that if I set a spending limit for each day it saves me money. Last year I set my spending limit at $250 per day for food, toys, transportation, etc. and did fine. IT really just depends on what you want to get. A lot of the companies will put out a list of their exclusives and prices before the con so you can generally go through those and figure out what you want and how much it is going to cost you.

I can't stand those lines either, especially in your case, but it gets people talking about the company & its product(s). Does anybody know how many times security has responded to the Funko mob around proto toss time? lol
