I saw my first wild chase yesterday...

Postby Betseygirl » Sun Jul 22, 2012 1:17 pm

I was so excited, it was batgirl. The only problem is that I was at a fantasy collectable store and they wanted $50. I couldn't buy it, I just can't spend that, if only of it was $20.

My greatest fears have been confirmed. I have one local comic shop and i dont think im going to bother checking there to see what she offers as far as POP! Figures go. I have a feeling that she would jack up the prices on special/chase pieces. Lame...

That's the problem. When shops are aware that these are special pieces, they will jack it up or pull it out and sell it on eBay.

I'm from San Antonio also, and saw that Batgirl you mentioned at Heroes and Fantasies. Raising the price takes the fun out of the chase. Pun intended.

You'll only find chase at regular price at stores that just think pop are cool looking toys.

Not many places here to look other than B&N and Disney.

Sometimes you find them where you least expect them...toy stores, candy stores, gift shops, music stores, stores with a really eclectic stock of items...just check anywhere you can on a whim and you might get surprised.

It's tough, for every "collector" there will be an "investor" who will resell at a higher value. They obviously ordered a bunch to get the chase, so it's tough to fault them for charging a more realistic "value". It's better the independent store (a comic one, which usually struggle at the best of times) makes the extra coin, rather than some dude.

That's funny because I bet it's "some dude" that owns "the independent store".

Which is fine, or maybe I don't understand your statement. The comic book shop won't sell a rare comic for cover price. They know their stuff - they are called specialty stores for a reason.

Chase pieces are exclusive for a reason - it benefits everyone. The collector gets the high of scoring a rare piece, Funko has people clamouring for the item, and the wisened store gets the benefit of making a few extra bucks.

I've lucked out in finding a few chases in the wild, but they have always been in big box stores. I'm not surprised that they have been few and far between in specialty stores.

I bought my Flash chase off eBay.

When I got it, it had a Six Flags price sticker on it. Not sure if that's a widely recognized source of Pop shopping.
