If this were you, what would you do?

Postby groundhog7s » Sun Jun 09, 2013 8:00 pm

I mentioned a couple months ago that our basement flooded unexpectedly and several of the totes that had my Pops in them got flooded also. At the time, I drained out the box that were wet and let the ones that were wet dry out in hopes of replacing the boxes of the most damaged (there were about 30-40 that probably needed replacement boxes). I finally got around to sorting through them today and discover a box that hadn't gotten drained out that I hadn't gotten to. What I found were about 50 soaked boxes that all had various stages of mold on them. They ranged from mildly damp to falling apart. Completely disgusting (on a couple levels). I took inventory and found I have 370 Pops with 98 needing new boxes (about 50 are just in the plastic tray now).

My question is, should I attempt to replace all of the boxes that need replacing or should I just become a loose collector? I need to at least keep my others boxed until August for something special I haven't mentioned yet. Other than a few Funday Freddys that are in acceptable condition and a few retired ones, there weren't any valuable ones in the ones destroyed (thankfully), but there were quite a few Disney that might not be as easy to replace. If this were you, what would you do (besides cry a little inside)?

Do you have homeowners insurance? If you do I would file a claim and replace them.

Renters insurance, which doesn't cover floods or earthquakes. Thankfully nothing major was ruined (other than these).

Oh man... that's harsh! Maybe you can do some window shopping for boxes & see if the money / availability make it worth replacing them. If not, then I say go for the out of box displaying route.

Really did you have more than 500 in boxes not including the toy because they will take them if they own then. Sorry Stacey I don't think that us a wise choice plus you will have a claim file in your insurance one step closer to getting dropped. Unless you filed a claim already for the other stuff in your house cause of the leak then add them. They still might want your collection if they paid out on it, in that case great idea Stacey :roflmao:

I wouldn't worry about replacing all the boxes. I don't think it would be worth the effort. Try to replace a few, but be happy that not everything got ruined.

And cry yourself to sleep every night,

Or contact this guy: slayers94rx7

He's asking about what to do with extra boxes. Maybe there's a love connection there.

Don't worry about the boxes now, you'll just spend more money. Keep the damaged boxed pops out and keep your new ones in the box

Thanks for the advice and the offers. I went ahead and posted a thread with what I need here:

viewtopic.php?f=8&t=40275

I thought it was worth seeing what's out there. I do need some Disney also but am waiting to here back on an offer from scottysnacktime (who actually just lives a few miles away actually).

And tomorrow I can go gets some pics of them in the trash for shogunjlips. I almost took a pic of them but couldn't find the camera. Very colorful stuff.

You can always check Gemini too - I know they sell some replacement boxes. Hope they have some of the ones you need.

Well thanks to some generousity of members willing to help out with some boxes, I think my list is getting back to a place where I'll be trying to replace them all again. There's still several I need, but the list is shrinking.

I really love this place.
