Pop Movies "Director" Line

Postby JohnnyPOP » Mon Jul 11, 2016 11:36 am

It looks like Paul Feig is going to be the first movie director (that I know of) to get the Funko Treatment! And it looks like it'll be a Funko Shop exclusive.

I wonder who else they have planned to make?

Really like that sculpt/pose. Not sure how I feel about a directors line, but pretty cool!

I'm in love with the sculpt and pose too. I think it'll be interesting to see if they'll do any classic directors or if this is just a one off thing.

Since they did Bryan Fuller last year around SDCC, a new director in this series isn't entirely surprising. Don't care for Feig's work but the pop turned out nicely!

Interesting. That's a good use of the Mycroft Holmes body though.

And Kevin's head from Ghostbusters 2016. :roflmao: Hopefully we get other directors such as Tim Burton, Stanley Kubrick and Alfred Hitchcock out of this line.

I didn't realize they'd already had a Director line. That's awesome!

I'm not sure what Paul Feig really looks like but I love that Pop. He looks so dapper. Well done, Funko! =D>

I'd like to see a Spielberg and JJ Abrahms, maybe a Scorscese.

I think that Pop looks really cool but this is an odd subject for me. I think most of us know the bigger directors by name but not what they look like (with maybe a few "celebrity status" exceptions like Hitchcock or Lucas). Just seems strange to do Pop renditions of people most of us wouldn't recognize anyway.

I was thinking like that as well. I have no clue if that's a good Paul Feig or not. (Even though Bridesmaids is my jam) But the more iconic ones will sell given a chance.

I saw a picture of him in the article and looks pretty close, actually? They did a good job.

But I agree it's a weird subject to do a line for. I'm hoping that it'll mostly be iconic directors. I'd definitely love an Alfred Hitchcock in black and white. I feel like this line would mostly be for those super movie buffs though lol

no, i think the market for these is very small, especially when you have low tier/cult directors like Paul Feig and Fuller. Del Toro will be hit or miss. Lucas could sell well, either for collection or as firecracker bait.

I’m not gonna complain though, things like this give me hope for the more niche people that I’d like to see made someday.

All in all, i’m glad we’re getting something like this, but Feig is a weird place to start.

It's a cute Pop, but I'm not enough of a Paul Feig fan to buy one. I love my Bryan Fuller as Hannibal Pop! I wouldn't mind having Alfred Hitchcock, Tim Burton, and Joss Whedon Pop!s. I think they should have started with a more well know and iconic director, but I'm sure there are probably a bunch of people who know who Feig is and will love this.

Love that he's getting a pop figure!! He's a great guy! This pic is from my friend's new shop in Burbank that I've been talking about. They just had a huge Ghostbusters Art Gallery show! He and Sony got behind it to bring some cool exclusives and fun stuff! Shop is The Perky Nerd ;)

While I'll agree that Feig is a bizarre director to use to introduce this new line (though I guess also topical with Ghostbusters 2016 being released this week), as a die-hard movie buff, I'm ALL ABOUT this line. I mean, all of the ones you named above would be awesome to have in Pop form, and I'm personally hoping they go a step further and make Pops of some more modern heavy hitters like Edgar Wright, Alejandro Iñárritu, or Ryan Coogler. To top it off, I'm REALLY hoping they make a Dan Harmon Pop!

Yeah, the argument could be made that "most people probably don't know who they are", but Funko has made their entire business off of appealing to both the worldwide fandoms AND the small niche fandoms. There are some people out there who will make the argument that Freddys are unnecessary, or that we didn't need ALL of the Pac-Man ghosts, or "Really? An entire line of Pops dedicated to football players?" But there IS a fanbase for those Pops, just as I promise there will be a fanbase for Director Pops.

Because I'm one of them :D
