Re: HOW DO WE SAVE THE DOCTOR WHO LINE?
Standalone Pop!s aside Doctor Who is my third favorite Pop! series to collect (but I don't collect anything post 10th Doctor era by choice) after Futurama and Batman 66".
I think 85% of the Doctor Who Pop!s released to date have been amazing!
I still need to get the two Captain Jack's (realistically I'm probably only going to grab the vortex manipulator version) and *maybe* a gold dalek (I have the two sec ones) and a regular (non-banana with sonic) Ninth Doctor and I'll pretty much be able to say that I have a complete set of 4th, 9th, 10th Doctor era Pop!s...
I would desperately love to have the remaining classic Doctors released...even if they came in waves of 2...or even one final wave with a few more of the fan favs: 2nd, 3rd, 5th Doctors and a 4th Doctor season 18 burgundy costume variant would be fine by me, if given the option of none altogether!
I still think that a 3rd Doctor and Bessie would sell very well as a Pop! ride...
And classic 70s era Doctor Who villains such as The Master (Delgado and "Deadly Assassin" decayed variants), Sutek, Omega, Auton, Mr.Sin, Linx the Sontaran, Axon, Silurian, Sea Devil, Bok the demon etc would sell very well...
Classic companions, The Brigadier, Jamie, Jo Grant, Leela, Adric, Peri and Ace would probably sell well too...
And for new Doctor Who...Series 1 pink hoodie Rose Tyler variant, Auton Micky Smith, Slitheen, Ood, Sim Master, Ancient little 10th Doctor in cage, Donna etc would equally sell very well too I *assume*...
Definitely a rich and long list of memorable characters to pick from...54yrs worth to be exact!

Re: HOW DO WE SAVE THE DOCTOR WHO LINE?
The main reason I haven't bought many Who Pops is because generally I'm not drawn to plain looking Human character Pops, unless I really, really love that character.
I do love Dr. Who & have watched it for many years, and I think the Who line seriously lacks in monsters, this is what I've been waiting for to really get me started on that line. All my Who Pops are monsters except for one Dr (Regen). There's not many Human characters I'd have the urge to need in my collection in all honesty, Micky, Donna Noble, annnnd that's all about I can think of with my hazy, had a few drinks mind!

WOULD HAVE TO BE A VERSION OF THE CLASSIC MASTER FOR ME AS HE HAD A MORE INTERESTING LOOK. ESPECIALLY WITH BURNT FACE.
IN MY OPINION THE "NEW WHO" MASTER WOULD LOOK PRETTY PLAIN IN POP FORM. I'D RATHER SEE MISSY.

"The Deadly Assassin" Master would seriously command attention as a Pop!...

The sneak peek for 2017 showed the Doctor in a variety of costumes, including what looked like a new spacesuit. Good opportunities for more variants, I would think!

I HIGHLY recommend checking out some of the classic series stories...some are dated yes, others suffer from dodgy acting, lazy writing and bad effects (all problems particularly noticeable during the 80s era), HOWEVER, you are missing out on some legendary Doctors and some really great stories (and a library of adventures which spans almost 30yrs!)...
Slightly off topic, but If you are not a fan for black and white then I recommend the following list of 8 "classic" stories to check out...
Patrick Troughton (The Second Doctor)
- The Power Of The Daleks (A missing story which has been re:animated with great visual style and detail. It's getting a COLOUR release in January. More missing stories may follow *if* sales are strong)
Jon Pertwee (The Third Doctor)
- The Claws of Axos
- The Three Doctors
- The Green Death
Tom Baker (The Fourth Doctor)
- Genesis of the Daleks
- The Pyramids of Mars
- The Robots of Death
Peter Davison
- The Five Doctors
Sylvester McCoy
- Remembrance of the Daleks
Even if you don't become a newly converted classic series fan, then I guarantee that at the very least you'll enjoy these stories and have a new appreciation for Doctor Who in general...

Those are some very interesting looking monsters. Some of them feel very Lost in Space to me. They would look very cool in Pop form.

Re: HOW DO WE SAVE THE DOCTOR WHO LINE?
Can't say I'd mind ANY monsters/aliens, old or new, so anything Funko wants to make I'll buy. I want all of the Doctors and then only the newer companions and variants. I don't know the older companions well aside from Sarah Jane Smith, so getting them wouldn't be my top priority, but if they were neat, or done well, I would eventually get them all, because DW is the only line I hope to someday own all of.

We continue with Doctors 6-8...
THE FIFTH DOCTOR (Peter Davison)
THE SIXTH DOCTOR (Colin Baker)
THE SEVENTH DOCTOR (Sylvester McCoy)
THE EIGHTH DOCTOR (Paul McGann)
So now with all these visual references, my work is done here. Just hope the line can continue and also embrace more of the classic era of the programme. Hope it's wet your appetites...hoping for good news for all us Whovians!

Thanks for the great list of recommendations! I have watched a very few of the older eps, mostly the episodes they aired for the 50th Anniversary celebrations
If I'm remembering correctly they aired 1 episode per Doctor. Some of the early ones were pretty rough but I enjoyed most of them. When I have some extra time hopefully I can find them streaming somewhere.

Cheers The 60s stories are admittedly quite slow...but the fan-favs still offer a lot if you can get through them. Tomb of the Cybermen is particularly good. Full of atmosphere and dread. Anyway best of luck

I only had a few Doctor Who pieces until I recently watched a lot of eps in a marathon on BBC. Mostly 11th and 12th Doctor shows. I ended up picking up quite a few of the Pops at Hot Topic so I guess I'm doing my part now. I hope it's not a matter of too late too little because I would love to see Amy and Rory in Pop form!

Re: HOW DO WE SAVE THE DOCTOR WHO LINE?
I'm still hoping Funko won't end the line until they release at least one of every Doctor (as much as I've enjoyed the variants, it's time to complete the set) and I desperately want Rory and Amy.

Re: HOW DO WE SAVE THE DOCTOR WHO LINE?
I'm actually really astonished that they haven't released Amy, Rory and Donna yet. Along with Rose I think they are the most popular of the modern companions. They also each have at least one really iconic look that would work really well for a pop. Amy in her "police" uniform, Centurion Rory and Wedding Dress Donna. I mean, how do we have 3 Daleks (4 if you include Davros) and none of these guys?

Re: HOW DO WE SAVE THE DOCTOR WHO LINE?
The uncertainty is killing me. Is the line dead or is it not? Is Funko taking a break from this line for a year or so and then maybe releasing a single DW piece at SDCC (I really hope not, because that means I'll never get it)? Right now I own every piece from this line that was released, and I don't want to miss out on anything.
I'm not sure why sales were ever low. I hear concerns from tons of people who want to save this line, yet I still see a lot of these kicking around at EB Games (Gamestop), sometimes at reduced prices. Maybe they were overproduced? Either way, I've been the guy with his ear to the ground who has rushed to Hot Topic, FYE or EB on the day of release to get each DW pop, and I'll still be that guy. Would help if I can find out now if more pieces are coming out this year so I can plan for it.

Man, I never realized how much Troughton's look changed over the course of his tenure. Not so much in costume but his overall appearance and demeanor seems way different over the course of the five pictures.

Re: HOW DO WE SAVE THE DOCTOR WHO LINE?
I did some spot checking on reported numbers from the pop collector website for the series release in Feb 2016
Rose Tyler - 1,300
Ninth Doctor - 1,300
River Song - 2,500
Silence - 2,500
K-9 - 4,031
Captain Jack - 2,400
Now some comparisons for other pops from Feb 2016
Fallout Vault Dweller - 2,100
Fallout Dogmeat - 4,200
Ironman Unmasked HT - 11,891
My takeaway is..
(1) You either love or hate Rose, which is reflected in her poor numbers. Probably shouldn't make a Martha pop.
(2) K-9 4000+? A lot of love coming from those who watched the older series. Make more pops from the older series. Obviously, the older Doctors are going to sell, even to those that have no love for the older series, just to have a complete set of Doctors.
(3) River Song, Silence 2,500. Definitely will sell a lot of Amy and Rory pops, probably anything connected to the 11th Doctor will still sell..
(4) Captain Jack, well he gets a lot of Arrow love as well.. crossover collectors.
I would suggest the following would all sell at least 2,000 units. Amy, probably 4,000
- Amy
- Rory
- B&W First Doctor
- Second Doctor
- Third Doctor
- Fifth Doctor
- Sixth Doctor
- Seventh Doctor
- Eighth Doctor
- Vastra
- Strax
- Clara
Beyond that, I see it as a mystery how the villains and companions that have no connection to the 9/10/11/12 Doctors would perform. Realistically, younger people are Pop buyers and they are more into the eleventh doctor than any other. I also want the Face of Boe but don't think it would sell all that much.
Rose Tyler - 1,300
Ninth Doctor - 1,300
River Song - 2,500
Silence - 2,500
K-9 - 4,031
Captain Jack - 2,400

For a final 1-2 waves I would be ok with this...you raised some good points (and stats) there! Realistically I do understand that a lot of the classic series monsters would probably be quite a gamble for Funko to take on and could prove hugely unsuccessful.
It seems that the 9th Doctor has even fallen to some extent into obscurity looking at those numbers...
I still think a 3rd Doctor and Bessie Pop! ride would sell well though with us classic fans...along with a 10th Doctor in tuxedo variant (David Tennant is still very popular it seems)...
Beyond that you're probably right with the list...however, Vastra and Strax could easily be removed to accommodate one final wave of x10 Pop!s...maybe a good idea to limit Clara and the Eighth Doctor as con exclusives with the others making up the regular, final wave of 8 characters...
Personally I'd definitely pick up 1,2,3,5,6 and 7. No interest in the others. BUT It's a good mix to keep fans both classic and new series orientated happy...and agreed that they should generate decent sales as a result...

I would definitely buy those pops especially Amy as I felt she was the best companion. I personally did not like Rose. I think if they made the rest of the doctors they would sell the numbers you had posted.

If they told me they were going to end the line but we would get these I would be totally cool with it. This is a great list.

I would be satisfied with a line like this too. Still mainly just want Amy, Rory, and Clara

I'd be okay with this list too if it ended there.
But add Donna. I really liked Donna and I don't care what anyone else thinks!
