Leia flippers >:( and memorial pop

With the sad news this morning I knowticed people in some groups and all over eBay buying up a lot of the original leias and selling them for $60+!

It's just sad that when a beloved celeb passes people go out of there way to make quick cash.

Do your research and get them at cost, if you can't find any and want one from PC pm me and I will help ya out.

Let's just hope 2016 doesn't take anyone elce.

How cool would it be if they made a memorial pop for leia.

I'm not a big pop buyer but I noticed that when Alan Rickman passed. Snape pops went up a lot. Since though, they have gone back down to regular prices. I did scramble to find one in a store at the regular price. Anybody will do what they can for money.

It's not a shocker.
Same thing happen with many celebs.
Especially Robin Williams with Genie pop.

It's been a horrible year thou

Well, we knew it was coming. "Capitalizing" (flipping) on tragedies or crises seems a popular thing to do. I knew this day was coming. I do have some rare and/or signed Carrie Fisher/Leia Pops! and protos. But me not being one to chase ambulances, I'm not planning on selling them for the extra dollars the sudden circumstances might bring. I'm not in a position or of a mindset where I feel compelled to do something like that. That said, as others have pointed out, 2016 is adding up to be quite a memorable year :-/

Due to finances I put off getting A New Hope Leia pop! for a while...luckily got one for under $21.00 shipped earlier today, but damn the scalpers are having a field day with prices...seriously crazy!

Sadly it comes with pops being so popular. I'm happy I got a couple of leia pops when I did, she will def be missed.

It doesn't even make sense with a character like Leia, because it's not like Disney is going to stop making figures of her because Carrie Fisher died.

I mean, check out my Obi-Wan Pop! Alec Guinness died 16 years ago so it's super valuable!

This was truly devastating news to wake up to earlier. She will truly be missed. I kept procrastinating on classic Leia (despite getting the TFA variants), so if anyone will sell or is willing to pick up a Leia Pop! (04) that is in good condition for a non-inflated price, please PM me!

The flippers do that even when tv characters die. When the Hodor character died in GoT his Pop shot through the roof in price pretty much overnight. The actor is alive and well though.

Honestly you can't blame them. If someone is willing to pay a premium just because the actor is dead, then why not make the money while you can?

yeah, Hot Topic just emailed me with a new shirt with a Princess leia picture and the dates of her life. It really put me off and seems like nothing more than a money grab.

I bought the pops a while back. People who scramble when a celebrity dies are the ones who fall victim to flippers. If you like the character or actor enough buy it when they are still alive. Same thing happened with gene wilder as wonka.

I've paid the flipper and I've been the flipper. Much ado about nothing in the end.
In regards to the OP note about a memorial pop, IMO it's poor taste unless 100% of the proceeds got to a cause Carrie Fisher supported.

That is exactly what I was thinking. Leia figures will get produced maybe even more now that she passed. She is and forever be an Iconic character. Disney Store has a new figure of her and Funko still has to release Hoth Leia (which I can't wait).

None of her Pops are vaulted yet are they? I see the Slave Leia is expensive on Amazon and other sites, but why? The unvaulted one hasn't been vaulted yet has it? I just don't see why anyone would buy any of the regular Leia Pops for more than 10 dollars or whatever.

Slave leia blue box is vaulted. It was thought back "from the vault " and released in a black box. That is no longer being made either. Even prior to her death I attempted to buy a black box version and the price was 20+ That's probably the most coveted.

Yea. Her passing was tragic and unexpected. My point only being is everyone rushes to get her pop now that she's passed and shelling out 4-5 times what it's worth. Peoples emotions take over and they pay flippers prices. I'm a big Star Wars / leia fan so I picked up these pops long ago. A persons death shouldn't drive you to buy it. If you're a fan buy it for that reason. Not depending if they are still alive. All these fanatic leia Funko collectors but they don't have the pops yet ?

I saw a post when they first re released her from the vault and it mentioned it being a very small re release. It was available from April last year until the force awakens was released apparently to celebrate the movie. If you type into google slave leia from the vault read the Funko blog post for details. I personally never even came across a from the vault leia. So I can Kinda understand the black box prices being higher than expected.

I have General Leia, TFA Princess Leia, and Slave Leia. I'm planning on waiting on Princess Leia (04) for now, as the price should go down. I'm not driven to buy it because of her death, I'm just concerned about still getting the Pop! that I always was planning on buying at a decent price.
