Shiny Marks?

Postby GREECE MONKEYz » Wed Feb 22, 2017 5:10 pm

I'm pretty new to collecting.

I'm an out of box collector.

Sometimes, I open a box and examine the pop/dorbz and find a shiny spot/scratch/blemish, usually where its painted black.

I'd post pictures but not sure how to.

Can anyone tell me what those are?

goop from the manufacturing process. Quite a few of mine have some small form of it. It's very common.

Whether it be a scratch, a spot, or a blemish

I find that nearly all pops have at least some marks on them.

Dorbz are even worse...ive seen my share of pretty deep scratches on those.

I'm OOB as well and there are a lot of pops that have marks/smudges of "shinyness" or white stuff that shouldn't be there. More than likely it is from the compound that they use to release the Pop from the mold or something like that. Not that big of a deal.

Funko has acknowledged that quality control is not always great. But they have vastly improved over the past few years.

It's something that has been raised with them before, and they've said that unfortunately this is the best they can without raising prices.

I guess we can't except a high-end collectable paint job on a cheap mass-produced figure.

Having said that, paint flaws do drive me crazy. I'm an out of box collector, so the paint apps are really important to me. I don't mind minor flaws here or there. I can often fix things with a magic eraser. But anything too obvious puts me off.

There's nothing worse than hunting for a pop for ages, finally spotting it on a shelf, and then realising there is a massive paint flaw. Paint apps are so important to me that if all the ones I find have major flaws I would rather just not have that one at all.

As such, I always try to buy pops in store so I can pick the best ones. I refuse to buy online unless it's something I can't get in store.

Mis-aligned neck plugs also annoy me, but that's a whole other issue lol.

It happens, but what do you expect from a toy that costs around 10 bucks?

whoa whoa whoa.... they're not toys. You can play with toys. Toys do something. They are posable, make noise, light up or move. These are $10 "collectible figurines". Just like the old garfield and smurf figures I would get as a kid from gas stations when we went on family vacations. :roflmao:

Paint error most likely. A few of my Pops have the same issue.

Honestly paint errors don't bother me so much....but i found especially with dorbz...they have scratches.....and NOT the kind a magic eraser would help....unless its - REALLY magic!!!

Ugh... neck plugs drive me crazy! Sometimes I'll have 2 Pops to choose from and one might have a paint flaw while the other has a misaligned neck plug and I don't know which to choose. That's how much it bothers me. ](*,)
