i dunno, they like to chase after the new shiny thing most of the time so unless it's right in their faces flashing in neon as new they forget they have certain licenses.

To be fair, the last LOTR con exclusives didn’t sell very well. Even though they were awesome.

I don't know about sales, but I can't believe LoTR sells worse than The Office or Umbrella Academy or any other number of very niche lines with very niche fan bases! Either way, time to admit that the line is unofficially over.

Would be nice if Funko let its loyal fans know so that it can be made official.

I think we are at a time in the road where it’s time to serve up those movie moments from Lord of the Rings - that is one franchise that really is ripe for a Ton of epic moments

It'll go in cycles, up and down. Taking breaks between releases for other lines to come into the picture for the fans.

Maybe, but if they are paying licensing fees to retain the rights to produce LoTR POPs, it just doesn't add up. I started collecting LoTR way back in the days of the Sideshow/Weta collab and when that line ended, it started the same way. No news, no releases for an extended period and then, bam, they announced it was over. I started collecting the POPs thinking that it was a much cheaper way to get my LoTR fix and was hoping for so much more.

I agree, it’s a shame that they are letting them slip away. There are so many variations they could do, and missed characters entirely

What does an open-ended agreement entail? They only pay licensing fees when they release a Lord of the Rings Pop?

That could be one option, we wouldn't really know what all limitations the agreement would have. Limited to X characters only, X number of pieces, X number of characters at one time, continuous agreement that has no ending date.

I suppose anything is possible, but radio silence is never considered a good thing imo. If Funko feels that there is a profit to be made in selling a Cutey Corn POP, I really wonder why they don't feel the same about LoTR / The Hobbit,...unless they are out altogether.

Cutey Corn is a bit of a different situation though. They've done a lot in the LOTR line, still possible they will in the future.

Do you know something we don't? Because as far as I can tell there is absolutely no indication from Funko that this line is still alive :smt068

As Tolkien wrote:

Gandalf put his hand on Pippin's head. 'There never was much hope,' he answered. 'Just a fool's hope, as I have been told. And when I heard of Cirith Ungol———'.

Just released this week, I managed to get the steelbooks of both trilogies too. This has refueled my interests in LOTR pops...so many characters missing!

I’ve asked around, but Funko keeps hush hush on licenses. Masters of the Universe was rumored to be a lost license for almost a year, and now we have tons of them. But considering LoTR pops are still collecting dust on shelves, the interest may have died. But, I’m still collecting middle earth shwag either way...I just picked up the 4K steel books for both trilogies :)

I was hoping for a Pop + UHD Bluray set like they've done with a few other combos. I don't have all of the LOTR Pops that I want, but I have many.

I wonder if the ones that are shelf-warming are the ones that are more specific, for example like the orcs, or the king of the dead or something.

Another year gone by and nothing new since the Gandalf on Gwahir Pop was released all the way back in October 2019! Maybe the 20th Anniversary of the LoTR Trilogy will bring with it some unexpected surprises...but I wouldn't hold my breath! Happy Holidays everyone!
