Postby PopPChulo » Sat May 05, 2018 5:14 pm

Hey All,

So who thinks it would be a good idea to a have Studio Ghibli line of POP! and if so which Studio Ghibli Film do you think they should start with? Any specific characters that you guys would want first?

I would love a studio ghibli line of pops! I'd love to see Totoro, Ponyo, soot sprites, chirio, haku and kamaji from spirited away, kiki's delivery service....there are so many they can choose to make.

I don’t think Funko can get the license because they stylize characters in their own way, and Studio Ghibli is fiercely protective of their IP. Companies that have successfully acquired the rights depict the Studio’s characters true to original concept.

That being said, I’d buy a Catbus & Totoro for sure if it ever happened.

Would you appoint Totoro to be the first to come out in the collection?

omg a Catbus and Totoro Pop would be life!!!!! -> I think that it would be possible I just think that Studio Ghibli would want to approve the design of the POP before it was released. I definitely think that it could happen because Studio Ghibli has licensed their products before to different companies.

I think that the forest spirit deer would be the illest 6 inch pop on the market. I would love it to have a Hot Topic Exclusive sticker as well lol -> and if they made it glow in the dark life would be too perfect. I think there is a lot of potential for Spirited Away but my NUMBER ONE POP request from Spirited Away would be No Face.

I think so. He is one of the more well known and popular studio ghibli characters. Even people who don't know a lot of the other movies know about Totoro.

Kiki w/ Jiji, Yubaba, No-Face, Ashitaka, Nausicaa w/ Teto, Sophie Hatter (young), Sophie Hatter (old), the Witch of the Waste, and Howl (black hair) are the pops I'd like to see happen one day. :) I'm actually not crazy about Howl's Moving Castle (the movie), but I love the book and Ghibli's designs for Sophie/Howl are pretty close to what I imagined.

I need all of these. I would buy them all.
Most of all, I'd want Calcifer, Howl (with a black hair variant), and Sophie (with a silver hair variant).
Also No-Face, Kamaji, and the Radish Spirit from Spirited Away, and Yubaba of course.
Ponyo in multiple forms with variants.
The forest spirit from Princess Mononoke, plus the Princess herself.
Totoro is a given.
Some minis from Arietty?

I missed a lot of these movies when I was a kid, so I've been slowly re-educating myself. I've seen the big ones now (Totoro, Mononoke, Kiki, Ponyo, Howl, Laputa, Spirited Away), and now I'm working on some of the lesser known or more recent films. They all completely hold up as an adult watching them.

The Cat Returns was really sweet and a lot of fun. I also enjoyed Only Yesterday, though it's definitely geared towards an older demographic instead of young children like Totoro and Ponyo are.
The Secret World of Arietty was cute, especially if you grew up reading The Borrowers, but it wasn't especially memorable.
