Aw was excited to see the new Bond movie with Rami Malek. Unfortunate we won’t be getting pops for Bond 25.

There is a blindness from pop lovers in regards to how many view pops. My guess is that the Bond license holder listened to its Fandom and that Fandom didn't appreciate Bond pops.
It seems to me that it is a good thing when the Fandom is listened to. Funko listens to us.
Everything is relative.

Yeah, so weird! I wonder what happened behind the scenes that the podcast people are so negative about it.

I recall a comment on an old Funkast where someone said the James Bond license is one that Brian would love to have. When I saw the first wave was announced I thought it was great that Funko landed the deal. I'm sorry to see it go

Sad to hear this. In an attempt to be conservative, I decided to stick to Sean Connery movies, but was still looking forward to the next wave. It's too bad it seems like a backlash from a section of the Bond fandom may have contributed to this decision

Yeah I really don’t understand that. It’s not like Funko butchered it either. They came out great.
I totally agree with that sentiment. From what I've seen, wave 2 would've been an absolute banger too.
To give some context to the jabs shared on that podcast (and the Bond community as a whole): Bond has always been about the high-end products the last decade. Bond is a luxury name as the character lives a luxury life, and has been associated with expensive items.
Examples are golden pens ($1.300 - 1.600), wallets ($500), bags ($1.600 - 2.000), very expensive replicas or t-shirts costing around $26. Then they announce a high-end range of figurines ($280 - 300). A lot of disgruntled fans, including myself, were asking for something more affordable. Then Funko announces their first wave of Pop!s. As I already was a Funko collector, this was right up my alley.
But a lot of Bond fans were mad at the Bond brand 'selling out' or 'not having the high standards they once had'. They felt that vinyl figures were beneath them, and yearned for times when they could discuss the expensive watches Bond wears.
As an aside, the Pop!s are still available through the official Bond Store. So this decision seems very recent.
TL;DR: A lot of Bond fans are snobs. Not me.
So Bond collectors don't like Pops because they're cheap.
They protest and get the line discontinued.
As a result, the Bond line becomes a "Grail" and starts selling for $1000+ on eBay.
Oh the irony.

First, I'm bummed that we're not going to see more Bond, there was so much potential and I know Funko worked for ages to get the license.
Second, I just do not understand why the people on that podcast or Bond fans in general would act this way. But hey, if they want to be elitist about things nothing we can do!

Thanks for explaining this..reading your 1st post felt like I was missing something. I totally enjoy the Bond movies, and it's sad that certain fans felt pops weren't "good" enough.

Why? There’s no reason real reason. They weren’t very sought after and just because they won’t make anymore changes nothing about the pops that were already made.

Everybody is "losing" the MOTU license because of the new movie. Mattel wants to make everything for the movie and I'm sure companies will get the license back later down the road.
Sheesh.. so I'm guessing Super7 will be pretty much MOTU-less this year at SDCC?
That's like half their inventory! That would totally suck for them.

There are many examples of things going up in price simply because they were vaulted or limited. Look what happened to MOTU.
I don't think anyone had Nick Morton on their must buy list until it got cancelled. But now the PPG price is around $300.

Why? There’s no reason real reason. They weren’t very sought after and just because they won’t make anymore changes nothing about the pops that were already made.
There are many examples of things going up in price simply because they were vaulted or limited. Look what happened to MOTU.
I don't think anyone had Nick Morton on their must buy list until it got cancelled. But now the PPG price is around $300.
Yes. It doesn't have to make any real sense. There's just something about the words "vaulted" or "canceled" that (potentially) leads to higher demand and pricing...at least over time. I'm not saying that such a thing would necessarily happen overnight...just for us to keep our eyes open, watch, and see what happens on the Secondary Market with Bond Pops!
The circumstances behind this announcement--if the rumors posted here are true--sound pretty silly to me. Wouldn't surprise me at all if the core of negativity was made up of general Pop!-haters.
I'm curious to see what happens down the line myself. I don't have a crystal ball...but still, I'm putting the Bond line on my radar. That's all.
