ReAction - How do you buy and display???

Let's talk about Funko and Super 7's great line of ReAction and Legacy action figures. They don't bobble or pop, but they thrill in their own fun way.

ReAction - How do you buy and display???

Postby Alleycat » Mon Jan 13, 2014 4:52 pm

I've never collected action figures before. Those who intend to collect these, or those who have collected similar figures before, I got some questions for y'all.

Will you be buying one of each figure you like and display on the card, or will you remove them from the cards to display?

Will you buy 2 of each - one to display out of the packaging (to "play" with), and another to display on the card?

Will you buy 2 of each - one to display out of the packaging, and another to remain on the card to be packed up and stored??

Finally, how will you display them - whether in or out of the packaging?
.

I'm only buying the figures in the "Buffy" line and I'll only be buying one of each figure. I'll display them on my wall, mint on card.

Agreed, and unless the card hasn't been punched, I'll hang them on the wall. If they're not punched, then I'd use a picture frame ledge, much like I have my Pops on (shallow shelf).

If price were no object
(I'd own GiTD Green Lantern Pop) I'd buy two of each, one to open to stand in front of the other.

I have yet figure out why unpunched figures are worth so much more. I can understand "moc" , but unpunched would just be too hard to get.

This one is punched - it has a hole at the top of the card to hang it from a rack in the store. Evidently, there are ways to get them without the hole at the top.

Sometimes you can get them straight from the factory unpunched. It makes the value go up for some reason. Im sure some starwars collectors know more about this.

So do the companies make so many unpunched purposely? Those would be the higher value ones. I wonder how hard they are to get. If they are anything like a chase?

Punched cards are, really, nothing special. Some collectors place a higher value on them because they are technically rarer than punched cards.

Ever used a hole punch and for whatever reason the "hole" didn't fall out of the paper? That's all an unpunched card is. When going through the packaging process the machine imprinting the hole intended for the shelf peg at a store isn't punched out all the way. The perforation is still there. Factories do not (to my knowledge) produce intentionally unpunched cards.

Yup....it's because it was intended to be fully punched but it just didn't happen. And that's why they're so expensive...because they're rare.

Kinda like an uncut sheet of baseball cards...Or hundred-dollar-bills. Just try and find one of those

I'm going to wait and see how some people display them. If anyone wants to show off theirs , that may give us a better idea. I want to take them out but to me action figures need to stay in the box.

I am not sure if I am jumping on the money train with this. However, I would display out of the box. In my early tomboy days, I collected sports action figs and displayed them out of box.

I been collecting figures since about 94-95. I always prefer to keep mine carded, mainly cause I like the way they display better in the package. I love the art work on the cards etc. If I really really love the figure I will buy a second one to open. But then again they display better in the package, with opened figures they are harder to clean, fall over a lot and you need a lot of space to set them up.

They all come unpunched "factory fresh" and when the retailers put them on the pegs the tabs get pushed out. Collectors who are MOC collectors love that "barely touched by human hand except my hands unpunched goodness".

I don't know about the upcoming ones but the Alien ReAction figures all had punched card backs. I can see a revival in Star Wars protector case sales coming.

I just take pictures of the figure MOC, and then display it loose. I collect everything loose but I've started to take pictures of stuff just to remember what the card backs looked like and everything. I have too much stuff to keep it MOC, but I can keep an endless amount of pictures so that's how I do it. If we start getting Goonies, Back to the Future, Buffy, Firefly, and so on, I'm going to fill up an entire loose display shelf with ReAction figures. Keeping all that MOC would take up a wall haha.

I collect the Sleestak variants made by the SuckLord/Suckadelic. Because most of them are sent uncarded, I opted to remove the few that were on card and have them housed in great display cases from smalljoes.com, a GI Joe 3 3/4 collector site. The cases fit a large quantity of figures and keeps them dust-free. At the moment, the APEX display cases are out of stock. The first photo was taken about a year or so ago but shows the cases with the covers on and that they easily stack.
Image
The next one shows a more recent image (I've since added a handful more that came after this photo) but the photo was taken without the covers just for the photo.
Image
Depending on what figures are released in the ReAction series, I'll most likely keep them carded.
