Funko Introduces Specialty Series

Postby Tinit » Thu May 26, 2016 1:31 pm

Funko Introduces the Specialty Series!

Every store deserves an amazing Funko exclusive!

In an effort to recognize our most special accounts and loyal retailers,
Funko is introducing our latest line of exclusives – the Specialty Series. Every month,
we’ll be announcing two major exclusives – one Pop! Vinyl and one Dorbz – that can be
acquired through the Specialty Series.

Why is it so special?
You’ll only be able to find these Specialty Series
exclusives in boutique retail, specialty stores, local comic book shops and
from qualified online retailers. This is your chance to help support local businesses
and smaller retailers, and you’ll pick up an amazing exclusive item in the process!
Our first two exclusives are the Cosmo Pop! Vinyl from Marvel’s
Guardians of the Galaxy and the Dorbz version of Howard The Duck!

Remember, these two fantastic pieces are exclusive to the Specialty Series.
So pay a visit to your favorite specialty store or your local comic book
shop and let them know to order the Specialty Series from Funko. Keep
following Funko and subscribe to our newsletter to find out
about next month’s Specialty Series exclusives!

I hope I can find these pretty easily and that they don't go the same way the FCBD Dorbz went.

Wouldn't mind a Howard the duck Dorbz, but can see it ending up being pricey, much like the comic book day figures. Time will tell though!!

This is really cool! I actually sent a Facebook message to one of my comic book stores to see if they might carry these each month. The other comic book store barely even knew what Funko is so I doubt they'd do this. Haha

Wait a minute. These are available at multiple on and off line stores, yes? Doesn't that make them commons and not exclusives? Like an HT exclusive can be got through HT only, but if that same piece were available at GameStop, B&N, and EE it wouldn't be exclusive at all, right? Is Funko tricking us? This sounds like a guaranteed new figure in each line once a month that won't be tied to Walgreens, HT, Target, B&N, or Walmart (large store chains) but be available pretty much anywhere else that there's interest. That's awesome, I'm not saying it's not awesome, what I am saying is this isn't exactly 'exclusive'. I can imagine the sticker nazis getting kind of miffed about it all, haha.

Managed to order Howard from Dork Side before he went down. No cancellation email so far.

I'm really, really excited about this and have already pre-ordered him and the Pop!

But it'll seem less like an "effort to recognize our most special accounts and loyal retailers" and more of an effort to gain more accounts and retailers if all these seemingly very new retailers end up with it. Either way, I'm stoked that they exist.

Yeah, I'm a little confused about how this works. I thought it was supposed to be available only to small boutique stores and not online retailers? :-s

i think the point is giving other stores a fair shot. they have no chance in the funko market with all of these corporate stores getting all the exclusives. and especially places like walgreens, target and wal-mart that are just flipper havens and don't know anything or care at all about collecting. when you have comic stores and small toy stores that specialize in collectibles, you shouldn't let them fall by the wayside. it alienates your fans.

either way, you and I are getting us some Howard the Duck Dorbz my friend!! :)

Probably a tentative date. Push it way out so if it's release takes longer you don't have a ton of people emailing and complaining. ToyWars is offering to allow people to pick them up at SDCC.

I am very excited for this set-up. Especially if this means we can get more non-mainstream characters that most big retailers would not stock. Comic shops or smaller online stores would sell these like crazy to more hardcore fans. The character possibilities are really out there...if Funko can get approval for those characters. I know the first two have movie tie-ins but I am still excited.
I found them on a few sites yesterday but chose to go by my local comic shop and talk to them about them. They seemed very excited and allowed me to be the first to pre-order a set.
