Mega Dorbz question

Postby Blasphemic Nephilim » Sun Jul 24, 2016 6:04 am

Anyone know if the Mega Dorbz that were at FunDays were only for that event or are they a first to market premiere of a new line? There was quite a lot of them, 8 I think, which had me wondering if they were being premiered or only an event exclusive. Before making my wallet cry, I'd like to get some thoughts on them from fellow Funatics.
Do I really look like a guy with a plan?

Being a lover of mostly Dorbz and Super Deluxe Vinyl, and after seeing some certain things mentioned from Fundays (ahem... 18" Deadpool?)... I'd love to know more, too!
Fav Funko Item: Deadpool Super Deluxe Vinyl
First Dorbz: Cowboy Deadpool (MCC)
Latest Dorbz: Ghost Rider (Metallic)
Most Wanted Dorbz: Freddy, Freddy XL, and 18" Mega Deadpools! Obviously...

Traditionally when Funko has made pieces this big they've been made in very limited quantities and only for special events. I'd say there's no way these will ever see a regular retail release, but we might see different subjects gigantisized (that should be a real word :-) ) in the future. By the way for those that missed it Gemini posted 6 variants. They sold really quickly. There was a blue, grey and red version of Deadpool and two 1966 Batmans (traditional color and orange) as well as a "Japanese inspired" Batman colorway. I took screenshots of all of them and will try to get them posted soon. From the pics I've seen of Fundays I think there were only those 6.

I saw your post that you missed out on the Deadpools, sorry you didn't grab one! It's just a guess but I think those prices may have been on the high end, so i wouldn't be surprised if you found one on eBay for about the same, maybe next week when people start getting settled back in at home after Fundays and realize they don't have room for something that big!

I've watched 3 of them sell (one from Gemini, two on eBay) and one go up for trade on Facebook... so I'm aware of 4, and that's just the X-Force colorway.

I would have guessed at least 100 of each, but maybe not. Looking at the pics of the hauls from people coming back from SDCC I haven't seen a single one. Maybe the Gemini prices were a bargain after all.

Rumor is that they made enough for most of the Fundays attendees but much of the shipment arrived damaged. I wouldn't be shocked to see these on Funko-Shop or released in a batch of a couple thousand like Hikari or Super Deluxe later down the line... but I wouldn't hold my breath either.

We're talking about the same thing, right? The 18" tall Dorbz? Seems highly unlikely they would have brought 3000 (the number of attendees) of those to Fundays. Most people flew there and wouldn't be able to take something that large back with them. Plus being so big they are no doubt quite expensive to make compared to Pops and regular Dorbz. Just out of curiosity I looked up the interior dimensions of a 52' semi trailer, even if stacked 5 high the trailer would hold less than 2000 lol Those things take up some space!

I missed out the Cap Mega Dorbz. I heard they only had 52 of those at the pop up shop. Hopefully it's true that they have a wider release in August. I guess I'm gonna have to purchase the deadpool and batman through eBay.

I have no idea why the least intelligent resaler sound up with all the Mega Dorbz. The prices they are asking are retarded. Freddy prices, even when they get retarded (and they do, a lot), at least make a sort of sense. Freddy is Funko's mascot. There's history tied to both the character and the event the pieces are handed out at. None of that tradition changed. Freddy in Pop! form was still the star of the show. It literally makes no sense to be asking $1500+ for the Mega Dorbz. Read that there may be a bunch hit the Funko Shop next month, fingers crossed everyone who wants one can get one. Odd how an event that has FUN right in the name managed to destroy most of the FUN I had with this hobby.

There are probably 6-24 each of the Mega Dorbz that were at Fundays. Those color ways/designs probably won't be available in mass.

No one got confirmation, but the pieces on the tables in the front are usually one of the "big" prizes.

What time and day were the Mega Dorbz on Gemini? Those prices are not bad compared to what people are asking for on eBay.

I think it was Sunday afternoon. I was doing some work around the house and just happened to be walking through the room when my laptop page reminder pinged, I stopped to check and there they were. The 3 Batman colorways were posted again today just a couple of hours ago, I posted about it in Eye on the Web but they were all gone in a couple of minutes.
