Dorbz Asia? Can this be a thing or not.

So I really really like dorbz. I also really really like Kung fu panda and other pop Asia pieces. I also have no idea at all how licensing works or how pop Asia works in regards to funko and all that. Anyway what are the chances of me getting Po as a dorbz wether it's funko or pop Asia. Or say a fudo myo-o dorbz. Is this a likely thing or not even a chance or a maybe. Just wondering if anyone else had visions of sukjai dorbz or the like.

Huh, never thought of that. I guess it would depend on how popular Dorbz are in Asian countries, maybe one of our Asian Funatics can chime in and let us know. I think it would be cool to see some of the Legendary Creatures & Myths as Dorbz!

I would be elated with an Astro Boy dorbz series....however I would like them to finish the Astro Boy pop series first.

I was just remembering a contact in the Philippines. He loves Dorbz, but can't get any of the exclusives over there so we've been trying to help him. He said there is not very much interest for Dorbz in that part of the world (they only seem to care about Pops). I suppose if that is the case, then maybe we wouldn't see Pop Asia Dorbz? As it stands, even the Pop Asia lines are very slim compared to the constant flow of US releases. Unfortunately, I don't think it looks promising to have Pop Asia Dorbz, but I guess you never know. If Dorbz suddenly become VERY popular, then there would be a good chance.

I wonder if pop Asia wasn't going to make dorbz if funko could license them for dorbz form. Is it mindstyle that owns pop Asia? Maybe funko could release those characters as dorbz here where the dorbz market is starting to gain more momentum.

I doubt it. Very small chance.

They have been pretty lazy releasing new Pop Asia. We haven't seen any new Pops. I hope we get new ones for Philippines ToyCon.

Pop Asia is separate from Funko all together. It is owned by MindSTYLE so it is VERY unlikely we'll see Asia Dorbz. MD (the CEO of MindSTYLE) seems to have very little interest in expanding the line and the company as a whole is focusing more on high end art toys collabs with Ron English and their PopLife branded expos.

I would go gaga over Asia Dorbz but firstly I want all the pops to be released after all these years! Still waiting to finish my Three Kingdoms set....

Thanks. That is fairly informative. I never fully understood how Funko and pop Asia were connected. Seems like a no go then. Who owns the IP for a line like legendary myths. Maybe Funko can license them as dorbz. For a US release. Hopefully you get the rest of your three kingdoms pops!

You know, there shouldn't even be the need for a "Dorbz ASIA" to make this happen. Funko can just continue the standard Dorbz line and add Asian Mythology and culture themed. For example, you can't trademark or copyright a mythological entity. therefore, Funko doesn't need Mindstyle permission (if it ever did) to make one of those Buddhism entities they've made in Pop! format. Funko can do all of these regardless of how the market is in Asia for Dorbz.
Now, Dorbz are following a trend of only doing really popular characters that have the highest chance of selling. I don't think Funko is taking risks with Dorbz in order to avoid a major case of shelf warming. It sucks that such a great line has to be limited by the sheer popularity of Pop! and how it clouds these figures. Funatics and other vinyl fans who collect Pop! are so "clouded vision" and busy collecting Pop! that there is almost no mental, physical and monetary space for Dorbz, it seems. Although it would be lovely to see some of those Astroboys in Dorbz format. I know for a fact that Dorbz will grow sooner or later. Batman SDCC 15 Dorbz have gone 3X it's initial eBay value. If that's not because Dorbz are getting more popular, then I do not know how to call it (don't insert smartass answer reply, lol
