There's also a possibility of a 2nd wave since we still need quicksilver and scarlet witch, which could have a black widow. I also wouldn't mind the white and blue iron man/ultron suit. I'm not sure it has a specific name or not

That is some crazy news concerning the Marvel Collector Corps.

I'll update the front after the news stops coming in. From my understanding the big news comes in just a few minutes assuming Collector Corps wasn't it.

It's only $31.95 total every 2 months. That's cheap for what you get. Hulkbuster and T-Shirt alone are worth the price for April

Walgreens Pop's I'm in no hurry. After seeing the video of them and the Spiderman's being stickers they are kinda a meh Pop figure. I doubt I'll get any of them besides Venom.

We also got a perfectly good Thor in the past year too but you don't see Funko dropping Thor to include a Maria Hill POP do you? Nope, instead we're getting a Wave 1 where the only character out of the main six Avengers not included is the female character. The same character excluded from the first movie's figures. Now I can only speak to the comments and messages I receive on my blog, but these are people who very much want to spend their money buying Marvel POPs. Trust me, you can't go through the major character tags there without seeing at least one person posting pictures of their POPs every day. Some of these people were put off when Funko didn't put out a Black Widow POP for the first movie. A whole lot more were upset when Falcon didn't get a POP when CA:TWS. And then all heck broke loose when they announced that Howard the Duck was getting a POP before Falcon was. So when the AoU glams came out, tumblr was already prepared to scrutinize who was getting a figure and who wasn't.

The Black Suit and 2099 Spiderman are both done with Decals instead of paint (for the brow/symbols)... which doesn't bother me because there's fewer paint flaws.

So for me personally, as a collector, I only get 1 of each character (although I do have 2 Lokis, Starlords, and Groots). So as each movie since the first Avengers has come out I have only gotten the original Avengers run for the crew, then as other characters came out I picked up more and more. I was actually kind of annoyed that Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Caulson weren't made with Avengers to begin with. All of that said, I get why they always have a new version of the core heroes, because just because I already got them, doesn't mean others did, so I have no issue with that. However I was confused by Falcon being left out of Winter Soldier, yet getting 2 versions of Bucky?? For me what I am most waiting for now are figures of Maria Hill, Falcon, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, and Agent Peggy Carter.

As a collector I do understand that. I mean, if it wasn't for the new action pose I definitely would not be planning on picking up the new Iron Man POP. But from the perspective of a lot of female fans - especially to movie fans who aren't used to the politics of comic book merchandising - it doesn't matter that BW got a CA:TWS POP. Rather, Funko's exclusion of Black Widow is seen as Funko making a value judgement on the character's importance and deciding she's not important to warrant the inclusion in the AoU line. That's why so many comments on tumblr talk about the lack of a AoU BW or a CA:TWS Falcon POP as an insult to the characters and to the fans.

Well lets actually look at her value as an Avenger!! She is a master assassin sure, and so is Hawkeye, however how does her ability stack up against the other Avengers, she might be able to beat Cap or Stark in a physical combat but she can't do much to Thor or Hulk, and if they are all suited up, I don't think there are any Avengers that she could actually beat. Now just because she couldn't beat them doesn't mean she isn't valuable to the team as a whole, but it is the same reason we aren't likely to ever see a Black Widow stand alone movie, she will always be the "B" character. Many fans want a solo BW movie, but it makes more sense to do a solo Captain Marvel movie for Carol Danvers because she is a super powered character (and pretty awesome).

I'm pretty sure there are other things being released with her, now my issue is when I go looking for an Avengers or even a Guardians t-shirt with the movie cast (not comic) and I can never seem to find shirts that include Black Widow and Gamora because apparently guys don't want them on their shirts?? That bugs me the most, my Avengers shirt that had the film likenesses on it was only Cap, IM, Hulk, Thor... nobody else.

I love nerdy discussions like this.

seriously? You really got go the most stereotypically fanboy route ever and act like who can beat up who is the only way to judge a superhero's value? God forbid we actually consider anything else. I mean, it's not like she tricked the god of mischief or kept Steve Rogers from getting caught in the first five minutes he was on the run or anything like that. So let me guess, using your own rational you're against any Batman movies because he doesn't have any superpowers like Superman right? Because obviously we can only have one or the other, only Superman OR Batman, Captain Marvel OR Black Widow.

Oh and if you read the article you would see that Natasha's got four figures coming out in total and that includes a Lego figure and a Minimate. There is nothing else and that's why women are mad. Because they want to spend money on Black Widow goods and they specifically want to give their money to Funko but once again it appears that Funko does not want their money and that is just stupid from a retail business point-of-view.

really in DC you don't need anyone but Superman... he is a god... I'm willing to bet that they look at the target demographic of superhero product (boys) and go based on what the boys will want the most (not the men, the boys), is it right, maybe not, but it is the most reasonable explanation I can come up with. Disney released an Avengers pin, the first Marvel pin, know who was on it, Iron Man, Thor, Cap, and Hulk.

but we could have a similar conversation about Disney, where are the male characters?? The only ones you ever see are for whichever movie just got (re) released. Do you ever see Aladdin? The Beast? Eric? No, but can you go anywhere that sells Disney goods and not see Belle, Jasmin, and Ariel? The princesses are everywhere, and some of the sidekick characters show up, but you never see the guys. Disney like to release things of the male Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar characters while pretty much strictly the Princesses from their fairy tales

There is nothing else and that's why women are mad. Because they want to spend money on Black Widow goods and they specifically want to give their money to Funko but once again it appears that Funko does not want their money and that is just stupid from a retail business point-of-view.

Yeah, good point.. I'd love for there to be more of a push for female hero merch. Girls can be more than just princesses.

It's more than just a figure; Hot Toys have added Widow to their sixth scale AoU line :)

Not sure you're helping. lol
Seriously though. A lot of this makes sense. The T-shirt things are weird, but the toys?
-Hasbro can only make a certain amount of Legends per wave. They just put out a Black Widow for Cap 2, and her AOU costume looks to be almost the exact same.
-Funko, again, can only make a certain amount of Pops. Of course they were going to redo the main four, along with the main villain, (Ultron) a mysterious new character, (Vision) and big fan requests Hawkeye and Hulkbuster. Hawkeyes and Black Widow have been extremely wanted since the first Avengers. And now they're both Pops. If Hawkeye was in Cap 2, I'm sure that he would have been in that wave and BW in this wave. Honestly Funko already gave us 7 Pops of AOU. If we got any more, I'd say Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, the characters that probably won't get another chance to be made.
-Lego did make a Black Widow for AOU. That makes sense, because the last BW they made was in 2012, and it didn't even look like her.
-Hot Toys honestly has like no limits. They made two Thors just for Thor 2.

really in DC you don't need anyone but Superman... he is a god...

Disney's obsession with hyper-gendered merchandising is a huge issue and there has been some great commentary about that published online, especially back when they bought Star Wars. But from everything I've read, Marvel (or Disney acting through Marvel) doesn't dictate to the smaller specialty toy companies - like Funko and Art Asylum - what characters they're allowed to use. Art Asylum is allowed to produce two Marvel Selects figures per movie (though it looks like that has gone up to three with AOU). If there's a limit to how many Minimates they can make per movie, I haven't actually come across it. But they get to pick which characters they want to make - that's why there's a Marvel Selects Jane Foster figure and Jane, Pepper Potts, and Darcy Lewis have all gotten Minimates along with Peggy Carter, Sif, Maria Hill, Gamora, and Natasha Romanoff.

Marvel has indicted several time on both tumblr and on twitter that they have no control over which characters Funko makes POPs out of. Which is why these articles are being published - Funko's consumer base is not Hasbro's consumer base and isn't caught up in the larger politics of Disney's marketing machine. And so the fan backlash is also different. Anger at Hasbro is usually couched in terms of representation and access for children. But the anger at Funko is coming across as something far more personal. I wish I could give you some hard data but unfortunately all I can say is, I've been running my site since 2011. I have close to 6,000 followers, with the majority being female MCU fans and Funko POPs appear to be the most commonly purchased MCU merchandise among this consumer group. And that's why I have never seen this much negative reaction directed at Hasbro or any other toy maker, because Black Widow's exclusion is being seen as a sign that Funko could care less about the female MCU consumer or their money. Do I think that's what Funko is purposely thinking? No, not really. I'm sure there are a number of reasons that came together that led to the decision to include her. And who knows, maybe she's supposed to be part of Wave 2 with Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. But the whole point of all of this is right now Funko's p*** off a group of consumers. They make not be 'collectors' but they sure are part of the reason why the MCU lines have been such a success for Funko. And now Funko is starting to get bad press because of it. So you guys can rationalize away people's complaints all you want but it doesn't change the fact that it is starting to be a bad PR move on Funko's part.

I don't understand why people would be mad there is no BW for AoU.

I always understood that female comic characters were a harder sell toy wise, since main target was young males.

Also, it's not like funko is NOT making female characters, the fact we got Mystique, and getting Nebula is pretty awesome.
