I went into Hot Topic a few days ago and was talking to the manager who I'm friendly with. He said that due to Walgreens, Walmart and other large retailers getting in exclusives, Hot Topic is trying to reach a deal that they get 60% or more of all exclusive Funko POPs, and that their exclusives actually remain exclusive to them.

Obviously there's no hard proof that any of this is happening, but it's more of an FYI that it's an effort they are at least considering and requesting.

Yah, makes sense. If I were some of these companies I wouldn't be thrilled about my "exclusives" becoming available at places like popcultcha. They may be all the way in Australia but in todays day and age it isn't that hard to discover them and order from them. Their shipping cost is very reasonable for international shipments. They seem to get all the HT exclusives.

well that's just because Hot Topic is an American company so their "exclusives" are only exclusive to the territory it's in. they're general releases in Australia just like how Grey Wind was 7-11 here, but Forbidden Plant in the UK, and wide in Australia. I think it's kind of greedy to want a worldwide exclusive, especially if it's not easily obtained unless you live in the country it's stores are located in... that'll just lead to a lot of angry fans.

I don't know, If I were fugitive and went through all the trouble of getting an exclusive (some insiders have hinted it takes a lot of of time and money to get them) only to have them sold for a good amount less even after shipping from another company I wouldn't be too thrilled. Blue metallic flash is a good amount cheaper from POPcutlcha even after shipping to the U.S. Im being completely honest when I say my desire and urgency to buy Fugitive exclusives (or any other for that matter) have significantly dropped due to popcultcha constantly getting them as well. Im just anticipating they will get them a couple months later and possibly for cheaper.

I do agree that it is unfair for a company to pay extra for an exclusive that can be bought from somewhere else. However I think the Loot Crate exclusives have been Loot Crate only and haven't appeared anywhere else, am I correct? There must be a Worldwide Exclusive fee and a Region Exclusive fee going on with Funko.

I think the problem is now that everyone is stocking Pops, so regular versions are too common and companies want the Exclusive because that is what people are buying. I don't buy regular Pops at HT because even with the BOGO they end up being $22.50 for 2, plus Ontario Tax of 13%, so that makes it over $25. I can go somewhere else and get them for $10 each.

I think it is absolutely crazy that EE had to pull their preorders because of this! I messaged [someone] and he said that they will fill my order at the time it said it would be filled, they just arent allowed to have them up for preorder for 90 days.

If HT is going to make a habit of this they need to start offering preorders too.

I assume you're talking about the Doctor Who pops being pre-release exclusives with Hot Topic, it's not their fault that EE put them up for pre-order before Toyfair was even over. I would think that Hot Topic has had this deal worked out already and EE just jumped the gun.

Hot Topic charges $41.50 postage to send a single Pop to Australia, so hopefully, for international collectors, there is a regional way to get some of these Pops.
There are a few that i am trying to get ahold of that haven't made it to popcultcha, off the top of my head Earth 2 batman, Optimus with sword and Stinger.

I completely understand Hot Topic and other retailer's view though, it really must be cutting into profits having their Pops available elsewhere, even if they are not usually stickered. I just would like to have a way to collect these at a reasonable price, US retailers are brutal in their postage cost to Australia.

I know it isnt their fault. It is just sad for the consumer to have the option to preorder and then poof it's gone.

I think so. On Pop Vinyl Facebook today they said all images were to be pulled and then people where commenting saying that Funko is wanting to pull the exclusives from HT

I wouldn't jump to conclusions without concrete evidence. Most Hot Topic employees have zero knowledge about the corporate side of their business and I doubt any Funko employees would be using Facebook as the medium to discuss possible termination of distribution with Hot Topic...

Lately there have been way too many baseless rumors that turn out to be just that, with so many comments starting with "I heard...." that send everyone into frenzies.

Getting my exclusives is gonna be more difficult if this is true, especially since I'm the type to want to see my POPs in hand before I buy. HT is the only retailer I'll buy POPs from over the internet, since I've had no complaints with their paint jobs and box conditions.

I hope they fire the jerk who leaked the images.

Those are likely the ones that Hot Topic will be selling.

Ehhh... Funko won't pull from HT. This is what happens when your product starts to get popular, leaks come out and you have to be fully ready for them.

Who really cares about pre releases though? You wait a little while and they'll be available to buy at the regular price everywhere. There are enough Pop exclusives where you have to pay more, there's no use in paying more for a pop that will be available everywhere.

You'd have to be crazy buying these things at SDCC. They charge more and they sell out early. Then they appear later in HMV or HT. I doubt Funko will pull the exclusives from HT as they are likely one of its biggest customers.

It's typically exclusive for 90 days.
