Your ReAction Questions Answered Here!

Let's talk about Funko and Super 7's great line of ReAction and Legacy action figures. They don't bobble or pop, but they thrill in their own fun way.

No plans for Horror Legacy at this point.

That's heartbreaking considering you guys got the incredibly difficult to obtain rights for Bela Lugosi's likeness. I really hope you guys reconsider, because Universal Monster Legacy's would rock, and nobody else currently has the likeness rights to several of the actors that you do, so you'd be unique in that market.

DST has the rights to do Universal Monsters in the 6-7 in scale, so Funko might not be able to make legacy versions unfortunately. I could be wrong.

Hi Reis,

Yet more questions:

1. Do you do the same production run on all the figures? For instance, I'd expect you to sell more Spocks than Boondock Saints and I wonder if you based each production run on how many figures within each line you reasonably expect to sell?

2. Have any of the existing lines had a second production run, due to demand? I ask as I got the impression that the initial Alien figures have been refreshed at least once?

3. If figures or lines do sell out do you consider doing additional runs or is it the case that when they're gone, they're gone?

4. Have any ReAction figures sold out their production run so far?

5. This is probably outside your remit, but do you know what has been the best selling single ReAction figure so far?

6. I've seen the Buffy 'Gentleman' figure listed on eBay for $55! Do you think there are certain figures which are going to be harder to get than others, or should we all be able to get what we want in the end?

7. I've only been able to buy your figures from specialist toy/comic shops in the UK or online. How do you work out your case assortments, are they by line or a mixture of main and secondary characters from across different lines? Do you envisage doing solid cases for certain popular characters? Again, I wonder if characters like Sulu might be short-packed compared to Kirk and Spock?

8. Does the ability of a character line to 'travel' play a factor in it being chosen? I've never seen Gilligan's Island, as it was never shown in the UK. Conversely, I expect there are a few iconic British properties (The Avengers (not the Marvel ones), The Prisoner, Space 1999) that may not be as recognisable to a US audience. So does the need for the widest possible sales, both domestic and international, influence whether you would do some lines or not?

1. All production runs are indeed different. Depends on how big of a license it is.

2. Not that I know of. But quite frankly, that's out of my realm.

3. I think it would depend on demand. And that demand would have to be pretty great for us to dip back into the stew, so to speak.

4. No idea, sorry. I really don't have a lot of sales info at my fingertips.

5. Not sure, sorry.

6. There's always going to be some figures that turn out to be more in demand than we predicted. The reverse is also true. Also, keep in mind that the secondary market is a fluid thing and can change rapidly. Just ask all those people who "invested" in Beanie Babies in the 90s. ;) Also, some figures are definitely harder to get than others. Some only come one to a case-pack. We try to do this with figures that may be less popular to help reduce "peg-warmers."

7. Sorry, again, not my area. But I don't think they've considered solid cases of one particular figure.

8. The majority of our sales are here in the US, so we tend to focus on properties that will do well here. If they 'travel", all the better, but we don't necessarily set out with that goal in mind. Believe me, I'd love a ReAction line based on Terry Pratchett's Discworld, but he's just well known enough here in the US, to support a toy-line, anyway.

Thank you Reis for answering my question! Does that mean we will get at least another set of 8 Star Trek figures? We really need Chekov, Chapel, Rand and aliens like the Romulans, Klingons and Andorians. I'll buy as many as you make!

Any chance for any Sid & Marty Krofft properties?

As long as the first 8 sell well enough, we definitely want to do more Star Trek figures!

Sorry, no plans for any Sid & Marty Krofft ReAction figures.

Two Questions, Reis:

First, how intentionally do you plan a mixture of small lines (Taxi Driver, Escape from New York), one and dones (Pulp Fiction, maybe), and lines that could go on for an additional series or two (ReAction Horror, Universal Monsters, Big Trouble in Little China)? Is there a particular mix or do you just decide what seems cool, what you have rights to, and what works?

Scond, is there only going to be one version of Travis Bickle in the Taxi Driver line or will there be the mohawk version and a variant with his regular hair cut? I haven't seen much coverage of that figure and was just curious.

Completely off topic, but you should put a piece of "mirrored cardboard" in the blister (kind of like the old G.I. Joe Tomax and Xamot packaging) and call it the "You talkin' to me?" variant.

Hi Reis! I know figures of Arnie as Conan are off the table for now in Reaction, but how about the Comic Book or Jason Mamoa versions? I am a diehard Conan the Barbarian fan, so I will take what I can get!

Is the Green Arrow figure that you posted in your St Patrick's Day picture a variant? He has his hood on but his mask off. The other two figures have the mask and hood on or the mask and hood off.

We just usually go with what seems cool and has a likelihood of selling. Sometimes we run into limitations on the licensor's end.

Just the mohawk version at this point. He's sort of a "one and done" figure. ;)

I don't think we can get the rights to the comic version since Dark Horse now owns all of that. And I don't think the most recent Conan movie did well enough as a movie to justify it. When your average Joe hears "Conan", they picture Arnold. So I'm afraid it's that version or nothing. And at this point, it looks like it's nothing. :(

Hi Reis,

Really cool that you interact with fans of your products. I'm a 70's/80's child so any chance of more 70's/80's properties? Would love stuff like the original McDonaldland characters, Starsky & Hutch, Dukes of Hazzard, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, Battlestar Galactica, the Addams Family, Space 1999, the Munsters, Alf, the Last Starfighter, Battle Beyond the Stars and any and every Hanna Barbera cartoon.

Shame about the Sid and Marty Krofft characters - I've wanted a Sleestak figure for over 40 years!

Thanks Again!

Well, there's still hope. Some licenses maintain a greater "cultural longevity" than others. Others suffer from bad press (McDonaldland characters, for example). So, don't give up hope on 80s stuff just yet. Some of those that you mentioned above are on our list. But the 70s licenses are starting to dramatically lose collectors. Sad, but true.

Me personally? They may not be from the 80s, but I'd go with Leatherface and The Exorcist. I'd also love to do all of the weirdos from Nightbreed (LOVE that movie!). And I would love to do a bunch of characters from Creepshow. In fact, Creepshow may be my number one choice.

Those are all great choices. I'd love to see Leatherface, Regan, and some Creepshow characters show up in future Horror installments. That's the nice thing about having a general horror line: You can do so many "one off" characters. Have you ever considered giving the ReAction Horror Series a cooler name. Maybe Funko Fear or Funko Fright? McFarlane had Movie Maniacs and NECA had Cult Classics. You guys need something catchy, too! :roflmao:

With the coming Jaws ReAction figures, are there any plans for more big figures? I especially thought about King Kong (1933 or 2005). Carl Denham, Jack Driscoll and Ann Darrow as the classic figures and Kong in a scaled version as a big figure would make a great lineup. Is the license even possible?

Another question might be a long shot but could there ever be a line of ReAction figures for Sci-Fi series like Farscape, Babylon 5 or Space: Above and Beyond?

Thank you for answering our questions.

Hi Reis,

A few more questions if you don't mind -

1. I know you mentioned that some 70's licenses weren't as popular as they use to be. Would there be a way then to just do a wave like the Horror figures where it's the best character form a couple of properties and see how they sell?

2. Any chance of other non-Universal Monster classic characters like the Fly or Dr. Jekyll (with a Mr. Hyde variant)?

3. Is there a release calendar for the 2015 Reaction Figures (can't seem to buy these fast enough)?

4. Are there any other figures coming out in 2015 that haven't been announced yet?

5. Would characters like Smokey the Bear or Woodsy Owl ("Give a Hoot Don't Pollute") ever be considered for Reaction figures? If so here's a link to their licensing page :)

Smokey - http://www.themetisgroup.com/smokeybear/

Woodsy - http://themetisgroup.com/woodsyowl/

6. Will we ever get any playsets or vehicles?

Really love this line - have such fond memories as a child of having characters crossing into each other’s worlds. Cannot wait for Jaws!

Thanks Again,
Jim

We do have plans for larger creatures and whatnot, but King Kong isn't one of them, sorry.

Sorry, no plans for any of those licenses. Although, on a personal note, I do remember falling madly in love with some girl on Space: Above and Beyond. I forget her name. My roommate and I used to argue over who was hotter, her or Gillian Anderson. He picked Scully. I still think he's crazy.

1. That is something we've discussed. Maybe people won't want all of the Happy Days cast, but many would want a Fonz in a "TV Stars of the 70s" line or something. I'm pushing for the idea, but no solid plans at the moment.

2. Mmmmmmmmmmaybe? ;)

3. There is, but it's an internal thing. New figures will be hitting the shelves every month.

4. Oh yes.

5. See my previous answer on ad characters and mascots. In a nutshell, they just don't sell anymore.

Reis you just made my day!!!

About the ad icons - do you think there are a few that might sell? For example aren't the Monster Cereals pretty timeless?

Thanks Again for making such amazing toys!

Sadly, the Monster Cereals Pops didn't sell well at all.

Any chance that we might see ReActions based on public domain silent horror films? I've always been a big fan of Aztec/ Mezco's Silent Screamers but would love to see a more classic, vintage take on those characters. I'm certainly on the outside looking in, but it seems that horror characters seem to sell. Edison's Frankenstein, Nosferatu, the Golem, Cesare, and others all seem like they'd be neat in the ReAction Horror series.

Reis,

Sorry for all the questions - haven't been this excited about collecting in years. Would you consider some of the more obscure stuff by doing online pre-orders and charging more? I would gladly pay double or more to have say Krull or Sid & Marty Krofft figures.

Thanks again!

Oh well, I can just make Dutch from GI Joe parts. I was wondering about the rest of the Firefly crew too. I feel like they're sticking around at retail. Is their no chance for a Firefly Series 2? Or is it still possible?
If I can't scuba, then what's this all about? What am I working towards?

Most of those are just too obscure for ReAction. Although Nosferatu is a possibility.

That's not really our style. We aim for stuff with a large fan-bases and get it out to retail at an affordable price.

Will you make generic zombies for the ReAction line?

I just got my set of Big Trouble figures and I love them, a big leap forward in execution. I have to ask though, why the hard plastic capes? The soft goods on the Terminator figures turned out fantastic for instance, and giving the 3 Storms fabric capes would certainly have made them more true to the Kenner look.

Also, have you ever considered doing little bases, like the Protech or Star Stands, but with some extra sizes thrown in to make sure every possible figure would have a nice fit?

Damn. How much bad luck can one show have. :-)

Anyway, I know I asked some time back if there would be an option to do a 'pre-order' or kickstarter-style set to complete the Firefly crew, but at a premium price to reflect the lower demand. I personally wouldn't mind paying if it meant the difference between getting the set or not. (maybe something similar to the last wave of Hasbro Indiana Jones figures that were a convention exclusive)

I know there were similar discussions prior to the Alien Playset being offered as a pre-order. If it doesn't hit its target then fair enough.

I seem to remember you saying it was something you guys had discussed and I wondered if it will still in the realms of possibility?

Also, another vote for Space Above and Beyond and for Vansen played by Kristen Cloke (assuming this is who you were referring to!)

Not really a question but thank you to everyone that worked on the Star Trek ReAction line. They are just wonderful and I even teared up a little when I hung my Mr Spock figure on the wall. I am sure that Mr. Nimoy would have loved the figure.
Okay, if you want to add glitter to that glue you're sniffing, that's fine, but don't dump your whackadoo all over us. We'd rather not step in it.
