Story of Splastik Plastik?

Postby FunkoFreshness » Mon Mar 23, 2015 10:11 pm

What is the story behind this awesome Funko line? Where do the characters come from etc? I might start collecting them but would love some background info first, thanks :)

Came here expecting a novel from Rev, but guess the Cliff's Notes version does the trick!

They are all original characters designed by funko artist back in the day. Spastik ran over into another line called MvsR or Monkey vs Robot or Wunderland War (all the same thing) which was designed or at least helped design by some guy name Vinnie that happens to be the drummer for a band called Less Than Jake. I'm sure Carol_Lynn or Scott can tell you the story of these twisted monkeys better than I can. It is truly the coolest line Funko ever made IMO, I'm sure most will not agree with me though haha. It the only reason I started collecting funko and was the reason I became a member here on this forum. I really like it because they were all original characters designed by the artist, in fact that the best funko you can own IMO, which includes bone daddy and El Diablo to mention a few(even though they are not part if the Spastik line).

Same can be said about this guy and tacos. When it comes to toys, you might as well ask him about cookies. Dude doesn't know what is and what isn't good for him. :D

I'm kidding, of course. Monkey Assassins are some of my favoritest pieces.

I came to Funko collecting by way of the Wobbler, but with inspiration from several Funatics, Jacob included, I became a bit obsessed with the Spastik and Monkey vs Robot pieces. I wasn't able to gather any of the great collectible pieces (wax and vinyl protos) like Jacob and other veteran collectors, but I did wrangle all the production pieces. My favorites are still the T-bones and the monkeys. And Karl. And Otto. And Carlos. Well, you see the problem. :D

We have 7 spastik plastiks in our collection. Juan Calavera, Fluska the clown, El Supremo, Senor Gomez, Sindee she-devil, Bob Outlaw and Wolfgang. they are all awesome pieces to own.
This is the beginning to a beautiful community friendship.

Best. Line. Ever.

I also like that they are original designs, even if some seem to have gotten inspiration from elsewhere (i.e. Otto & Co. could be one of the Weird-Os). I am slowly building my Spastik collection and thinking of getting into the original Wobblers as well. Bone Daddy is just begging to sit on my shelf.

Spastik Plastik are great original characters. But looking at the figures, also check out the insert labels in the packaging. You then can truly appreciate the humor and wit behind those Funko artists.
