Funko pops in subscription boxes should come with pop protectors

Postby smach28 » Fri May 12, 2017 3:38 pm

I was thinking, Funko should put the pops we get in pop protectors so it can't get damaged when we have it or when it ships! :D

Not worth it, all it would do is drive up the overall cost and every pop I've got from my sub services has been fine.

Last year the older boxes went on sale for what $15 each? That doesn't make the Pop worth protecting, right? On top of that the Pop protectors protect the boxes more than the Pop, I've never received an actual damaged figure before.

I think out of my subscription boxes I've only gotten like 3 out of say 50 figures where the box had any damage, and only one where it was really bad (and that happened to be the free one they sent as an X-Mas gift). The only time I would think the protector would make sense is if they only used it for Chase figures. Otherwise you're just going to either drive up the cost of the subscription or take out some of the extra's in each box. And you'd probably only ever get one figure per box if they were using protectors on every figure

I'm pretty sure Funko has stated that it's better to take pops out of the box. Plus, the I think real intention of those boxes is to be packaging for the figure. Maybe they should just ship everything in a brown box with clear window.

Yeah, I've never actually received any damaged boxes in all the subscription boxes I've received so I don't think I'd really want the price to go up for that - though I am out of box, so it wouldn't really matter to me a whole lot even if the boxes were damaged :dontknow:

I've received a number of Pops from the sub boxes that had boxes pretty beat up, but I just don't see it being especially practical or economical.

It's a nice idea, but not worth implementing. Some of the pops have some damage even before they go into the box. I'm sure a hardcore in-box collector would be even more upset if he paid extra so his pop would have a protector and it was still damaged anyways.

Well, the R2D2 pop from the Jabba's Palace box was damaged, but, given the outside box was pristine, I can only conclude that Funko put a crappy pop in the box. So, a protector would just protect a crappy box.

I agree they should have protectors. You can never tell how your delivery man is going to treat your package. More protection is better for sure.

Actually, I enjoy putting Pops and Dorbz in Protectors. If they came in protectors, I would probably take them out, so I could put them back in. But then, I may be a little obsessive. #-o :D

The only box that has ever been damaged was the Unmasked Ant-Man, where they were still figuring out the best sizing for the box.

Trust me.. protector or not if the delivery man decides to play some football with your package or sit it under the gorilla someone is shipping ain't nothing going to stop your item getting smashed.

I'm actually voting for Funko to ship Pops and Dorbz in plastic bags with some cushion for the Pop inside. That way we can actually appreciate the work and detail Funko puts into each figure created. Then again, I'm a biased out of box collector lol

Have a two tier pricing structure. If an in-box collector wants to pay for the protector, then the subscription price is adjusted accordingly. For those out-of-box collectors, the price would be as is. The real flaw in thinking that the protector would make things better is that the box needs to be pristine from the start and that is not what I've found to be the case, including the Funko-Shop items that are sent in an additional cardboard box. So unless they can guarantee that the package box will be Nr Mint, then why bother. I just hope they adopt a new policy to replace boxes that are clearly damaged from the start or weed out the really bad ones. Since Funko put a poll question in the field asking who's in-box and out-of-box, I'm thinking they might start changing the replacement policy language for the future. BTW, the additional cost of a standard protector is minimal. I buy them at 60-70 cents a piece and that's from a person who is not getting the price break that Funko would get for bulk in a much bigger quantity. They do get replacement boxes made for some releases, as I have gotten them here and there from Funko and store owners get them in bulk when a shipping box is damage in transit...I'm betting the cost to make those is a lot higher than a standard plastic protector.

I agree they should be protected. I had a couple that came pretty beat up. My sub box was no damage. It happened before they put pop into the shipping box.

Funko doesn't care about the box, why would they bother spending money to protect it?

Whatever you personally like/dislike, Funko doesn't give a crap about boxes. They barely give a crap about the products in the boxes as well. I can only imagine the nightmare that would be adding an additional step to the process because I guarantee Funko would send busted protectors or busted boxes inside protectors. It's a nice idea on the surface but Funko doesn't have the expertise to execute it effectively.

I hear this a lot and read it in their faq for the sub boxes as well but still find it hilarious that they sell heavy duty hard protectors. I've seen people make the argument that funko seems to go between selling toys and collectibles when it suits them best and I can see that side of the argument. Regardless I don't see it happening for the sub boxes but nonetheless interesting thought/discussion.

I never have either. I mean seriously. I've been buying pops for, what, six years now and never had one in a box come damaged. I can't figure out how this happens to people all the time. Also I suppose it's just ironic that I don't really care and mine all arrive minty fresh.

I really appreciate the honesty you have here. It's not as common as you would think, and the blowback/reaction from some of the members on this forum really dissuade people in doing so.

I'm okay if cost stayed the same. However I'd just use the protector for a different pop.

It would be nice, especially since they started bagging/boarding the comics after a while.
But the best i could see then do is if they developed an thin cardboard shipping box that was not too expensive.

A thin interior shipping box is a good idea.
