Re: Smuggler's Bounty--The Last Jedi
I'm very disappointed in the reveal for this box. I had every intention of ordering this one due to my excitement for TLJ, but this is literally the only thing that could stop me from getting it. I'm glad they revealed it, otherwise I would of been extremely disappointed when I opened my box. Funko saved me some money.

Well they're not going to appeal to everyone, but I think they are absolutely fantastic. First of all, they could not possibly do an enclosed c*** around the giant Pop heads without it looking ridiculous. Second of all, these are a nod to the hot rod artists of the 60's and 70's like Ed Roth, Dave Deal, George Trosley, Sonny DiPalma and B. K. Taylor who pioneered a new art form that was very popular then and still influences caricature artists today. They drew big-headed, exaggerated figures that were much too large for the vehicles that they were driving/ flying, but that was the whole point of it just as it is with these and Pop Rides and Dorbz Ridez. They are crazy, out-of-scale cartoony caricatures. They're not meant to look realistic. Incidentally the same artists I mentioned above are the influences for Funko original designs such as Bone Daddy, Carlos, Otto, etc.
This is one of hundreds of trading cards designed by B. K. Taylor in the 70's, this will give you the idea of the art style I'm talking about:

I agree with everything Tres said. If you want a to scale figure, Pops in general are NOT the collectible for you. Even the open top speeders are not to scale. I am thoroughly excited to display the incoming SB item with all my others!

Honestly Pops are not really you're get out and play with toys. There's no articulation, the scale is unproportional, etc. I don't believe Funko tryies to market otherwise so given that I really like this. I'm looking forward to it being one on my desk at work, especially since I work with kids!

Re: Smuggler's Bounty--The Last Jedi
I think I'm being misunderstood. I love Pops and their unproportional selves, as well as many of the Rides, Ridez, and Deluxes made so far. The problem I have is having a big hole on the top of a starfighter for the head to pop out of. I don't like it. I understand that's the only way they can do them, I just would prefer it if they avoided those types of vehicles altogether and focused on things like speeders. They are much more visually appealing to me in Pop Deluxe form, plus you can see their entire body, rather than just part of it. The one enclosed vehicle I can think of that would work as a Deluxe is Chewie on top of a AT-ST, since that's straight out of the movies. That one would actually be kind of neat. One of my favorite parts of RotJ.

I understood what you meant, but what I was trying to explain is that they are designed that way for a reason. They are heavily influenced by the artistic style known as Kustom Kulture that was prevalent in the 60's and 70's, and like I said before continues to influence artists today. It is a style that many people (especially hot rodders like me) hold near and dear to our hearts. The whole idea of a head/ body that's too big for the vehicle and sticking out the top of a car (or aircraft or spaceship or whatever) is exactly that style.
HaloHawk87 wrote:I understand that's the only way they can do them, I just would prefer it if they avoided those types of vehicles altogether
I understand you feel that way, but I don't. I mean if you don't like it that's cool, you're welcome to express that opinion. But when you say that they shouldn't make them, well now you're stepping over the line Because I love them and really hope they make more in the same style! I mean they make lots of lines I don't like, for example, I can't stand the 8 bit stuff. But others do like them, so more power to them. There's plenty of other stuff to spend my money on, too much really

I like the speeders too, but I personally would really hate to see them -only- make speeders. There's room in their line for SW speeders, and fighters, and creatures, and.... well the sky is the limit

Re: Smuggler's Bounty--The Last Jedi
I'm a little disappointed frankly. The deluxes are okay and all, but I'm just not feeling it. I decided a few weeks ago that I was not going to collect the deluxes or Movie Moments packs. Then they showed the new box. I'll end up getting it because I'm a boss subscriber, but I'd be willing to trade it off probably just like my Darth Vader in Tie Fighter Deluxe.
Maybe it's the scaling ever since Luke in his speeder that just throws it off for me. Between the multipacks, movie moments, and deluxes ... it's just hard to keep up. I still don't even have all of TLJ releases.

In case anyone missed it, the Facebook post for the spoiler says one of the figures. So that means there is another figure! Whether that is a pop, mini-hikari, dorbz, or a mystery mini, who knows. But awesome regardless!

I've been an annual subscriber since the beginning, and it's so much fun but... disappointment for me.
This after putting Obi-Wan, Aalyla and unfinished 3PO out for sale (not a prequel fan) coupled with everything else, I'm hoping future boxes will be more my flavor.
