I'm excited to see what this year holds for Spastiks. I'm really hoping for a Chet or Gill, but I know they'll all look great.
T-Bone was probably one I liked the most, Hope they give him the dorbz treatment

With todays technology they don't need too but in some rare cases they still make them. Like when they are trying to rush out a sample for a customer or last minute stuff like NY Toy Fair.
Back in the day the process was-
Artist would hand draw up the idea
Then art is put into computer art
Art work send it to China to be sculpt
Artist created a wax Sculpture sent back to US for approval
Gets approved
Mold is created by melting wax away creating a metal mold (This what they called a losing process)
Mold used to make proto
Protos sent to Funko artist and then would hand paint two protos
Then one to be sent back to China to make production pieces to get the colors right
One stayed at Funko as a sample
Item is finally ready to go into production
..........this took way tooooo long and why it is no longer used
Or at least this is my understanding of the process and why I collect historical Funko items like hand painted protos, art both original and computer generated, and piece that are significant to the history of Funko. Also why wax protos are super rare because it usually mean it never made it into production. Not sure if you can see in any of my pictures some times you can see Chinese characters on the hand painted protos telling the production line stuff like base colors. You also can tell the difference in the ones sent to China because they were usually way more beat up due to the fact they were used as a hands on piece to make the production piece and was handled by several people. My understanding the last sculpture artist Funko used from China is no longer part of the process and was 100X better than and 3D machine. Funko now has their own talent sculptures on staff at HQ now but not 100% sure on the process now- 3D machines and or clay sculpts which I don't think they use anymore either so what do I know
