This thread needs some Wobblers.

Anyone remember this one (Kevin, I know you do)? There was a standard version, but this is the "Risk is Good" version which apparently had a run of 1,000 (there were over 18,000 of the regular Wobbler). This version was made for Trade Shows.

I use Imgur for pics too. It is so much easier than anything else I have ever used.

This Evel Knievel is a classic piece and yes I do remember it Scotty ;-) . When I was a kid I would visit my relatives in Butte, Montana and that is where Evel Knievel's ranch/estate was. He was never home while I was there, but it looked like a pretty cool place from outside the walls.

I also have a hand-painted Evel Knievel proto that I bought from Bill Becker (Mike Becker's Brother) I really am working on new pics of stuff! The "risk is good" was created for a financial concern on the east coast that only dealt with clients who had an initial worth of 5 million or higher. They were into asset management. I know because another Funatic and me tried to contact them via email to get this version of this wobbler and they sent Cbex and email stating what they were and what they were about.

cough, cough, more dust from the Funko Files :D

Well, it's Wednesday, and TJ is back from NYCC, so why not post pics of Wobblers that were released at cons...any con.

These metalic Saucermen are cool. I got these after I saw them in person in Jim's collection. They were released at the 2010 SDCC.

Great stuff gents. I've been traveling a little bit. Very interesting that Josh posted the Coke Sprite Boy last week as I was in Atlanta and visited the World of Coke (it was pretty cool--I am a Coke guy). As much as I like Coke, the Sprite Boy just didn't work for me. I'm such a Wobbler snob :)

For this week, since I'm only a day late...let's see. TJ posted his Diabloes, Kevin posted Abe and Fred, Josh posted his Alexes...how about

Underdog and Super Freddy!!!! I love the way Funko re-purposed bodies.

We all have those days. Hope you feel better soon!
The first time I ever ran into some wobblers in a new retail store was on Hollywood Boulevard near the new store. Wish I took a picture to share but was in shock when I looked at the price. $23.99. They had several different ones including some Hikaris which I wanted to get the white clone Trooper until again I looked at the price of $150.00. I left after that and didn't look back. It's one thing to make a buck but to mark up that much was insane. I'm sure they will be there for years to come!

Josh, your pic is perfect. I was lazy and just pulled an old pic down from Flickr :)

Next year we have to remember to start a new thread and have everyone post their Freddy Gobbler Wobbler in a scene like yours.

I guess I'll have to find a spot for him and move him back into the collection #-o

.

It's actually Wednesday!

How about a little Funko history.

The First Annual Funko Fun Day was held on Oct. 19, 2002 at Sparky's at Universal in California. At one time, Sparky's was quite the retailer of Wacky Wobblers (obviously, since the first Fun Days was held there). But even by 2005, apparently Sparky's Wobbler stock had dwindled.

The rarest of all Sparky-branded Funko was the Sparky Bowler with the gold bowling ball. It was only offered at the Sparky's store for an hour or so before it sold out. This Sparky Bowler was exclusive to guests at the "First Annual Funko Fun Day". Only 96 Sparky Gold Bowlers were produced. His Box is the standard Sparky Bowler box, his shirt is Red instead of Black and base print reads "Funatic".

Image+

Though the rarest of the Sparky-ware, the gold-ball bowler was not the rarest Funko at the first Funko Fun Day. Also part of that celebration were: the white, GITD, Count Chocula LE 48, and the Super Freddy LE48.

No, i wasn't collecting that far back. I didn't start until ten years later. The 2 fundays I went to (2013 and 20114?) were a ton of fun and a bit less than the current over-the-top production they are now.

Kevin will have to chime in on this, but i seem to remember someone saying that the very early fundays were appreciation events for the retailers. The retailers, back then, were much smaller--mom and pop shops--so it was a good marketing strategy for Mike Becker (founder/1st owner) to promote Funko and build a base of loyal retailers.

That's cool. I've seen the video a couple of times and it definitely seems to be more personal than the large production put on today. Would be awesome sometimes to have a time machine to go back and check it out. Mike is awesome!

Though the rarest of the Sparky-ware, the gold-ball bowler was not the rarest Funko at the first Funko Fun Day. Also part of that celebration were: the white, GITD, Count Chocula LE 48, and the Super Freddy LE48.

This is awesome. Thanks for sharing!
