Does anyone here NEVER remove Pops from their boxes?
I apologize if this topic has been discussed previously, but my search of the forum didn't turn up anything, so here it goes: I was curious if anyone here collects Pops without ever taking them out of their boxes. I mean NEVER, not even once.
I ask this question because I recently bought a Dark Knight Trilogy Batman from EB Games (the Canadian brand for GameStop) and didn't realize that it had a sizeable defect in the paint until I brought it home and took it out of the box. The defect (it looks as though some foreign material landed on the Pop and then just got painted over) is on the back of the Pop's head, so it would be impossible to see without taking the figure out of its packaging.
So for those who never remove Pops from their boxes, I was wondering if you are at all concerned about scenarios like the one I came across.

Re: Does anyone here NEVER remove Pops from their boxes?
I typically remove my POPs from their boxes, so I guess I'm not really the demographic you're looking for an answer from but I'll give my 2 cents anyway. If you never remove the POP from the box how would you notice a a defect that could only be seen by removing the POP from it's box? If you never get to notice the flaw, how can you be concerned about it?

Re: Does anyone here NEVER remove Pops from their boxes?
Nope...I NEVER remove the POP from the box. EVER. There could be a gaping hole in the back of the head and I would never know it. Am I concerned about it? Not at all. Because I don't see it.
Actually I lied. I have opened boxes a few times to swap. Say the figure has paint smudges on the face or something but the box is pristine...and another one has a bad box and pristine figure. I will swap the figure from one box to the other and then close them back up. Otherwise, they stay sealed away forever.

I currently have most all my POP!s displayed in the box. I have removed every single one though. Some have such great detail that can only be seen by removing them from the box. I plan on freeing all of them very soon and displaying them out of the box.

Every single one of my 300+ pops, wobblers, and dorbz are out of the box. For the pops and wobblers, I do have the boxes displayed behind them with the side artwork showing. I can put one back in the box and you would probably never even know it was out of he box

NEVER!!!!!!!
All in boxes and they stay there. I have only opened one (Tim the Enchanter) because the white rabbit was loose. I had to fix that real quick.

Only weirdos leave their Pops in boxes...you miss so many details that way. :P
I take all of mine out, and keep the boxes. I get the appeal to in box, but that will never be me. :d

Always take them out at least once, even if it's just to check for defects. With the exception of NFL and the 6" pops, you can open a pop box, check the piece and put it back without issue. Just have to take care when doing so.
Some people say that you should never take them out because you'll ruin the value. They are idiots collecting for all the wrong reasons and should be marginalized as they are sucking all the fun out the hobby.

I was forced to dismantle my decontamination tent due to a unforeseen leak and haven't been able to rightfully inspect my Pop! vinyl figures since. I hope to have it restored within a couple months- I'm way overdue for a tea party with my favorite toys.

Mine don't get removed but it has nothing to do with mint boxes or keeping them pristine, I just display in box because I like the nice clean look of all the boxes side by side. Also I appreciate the box art, I will never tell anyone not to remove their toys for value purposes or anything silly like that, to each their own. They are your toys and you can do what you want with them

Re: Does anyone here NEVER remove Pops from their boxes?
Mine stay in box. The only one I've ever removed was bobble-head Jessie to tilt her head back upwards in the plastic insert. I like the way they look in the box, personally. Probably due to some underlying mild OCD, I like seeing the numbers in order too.
If I took them out, I'd be dusting them off every single day and risking their destruction at the hands of my many, many pets. I came reeeeeeally close to unboxing them when I ran out of room, but went and bought wall shelves instead. I just can't do it. That said, I really like how Tres displays his OOB, with awesome dioramas. If the day ever comes, that's how I'd go about displaying as many as I could. Which would probably take up even more room,

I remove about 50% and keep the other 50% in the box, but only because I haven't decided how I want to display them yet. I'm also not too particular about the paint job of the figure. After all, they're pretty massed-produced, so it shouldn't seem odd to find a paint flaw or two. From a distance they all look perfect!

Re: Does anyone here NEVER remove Pops from their boxes?
I sold Funko products for well over a year before I started collecting 2 years ago. I have literally handled thousands of pops...in the 3 years plus I think I've opened maybe 5-6 boxes. The loose ones I use on Instagram etc are from my son's collection but now even he's taken to keeping exclusives & flocked pieces in box. My personal collection is in box because I just like how they stack in-box. Take em out and sometimes they don't stand right or the head is heavy or the bobble spring is off...in box is just cleaner to me

Re: Does anyone here NEVER remove Pops from their boxes?
*raises hand* I never remove any of mine from their packages. It's just like Poppetmaster said, there could be broken pieces or a huge hole in the back of the head and I'd never know. The only one I've ever removed was a Sir Hiss, and that's because I bought two. One stays in the box, one is going on the dash of my car.
Too soon?

I've opened most of mine and usually put them back in the box. I don't see why not. It's not like the box is ruined if you open it. Just be careful and it's perfectly ok.

Re: Does anyone here NEVER remove Pops from their boxes?
Most of mine are still in their boxes because I haven't decided on a place to properly display them yet. The plan is to set them free eventually though.
At first, I never really opened them at all - just glanced through the window once and put it on a pile with the others. Didn't even occur to me to examine them any further. Now I always open them to check the back of the Pops too, and then just put them back in the box, which is super easy, so there's no real reason not to.
So I know the later Pops are good to display, at least. The earlier ones I'm sorta scared to open now. Those would be the hardest to replace too, as some have since been vaulted.
So in retrospect, I wish I had checked them for defects from the start.

I rarely open or remove my POPs, dorbz, wobblers...it may not be as fun, but it's still Funko
I don't worry about any flaws I don't ever see or know about
Very few exceptions, but I had to jump on the GOT Iron Throne picture fun during NYCC..

Seeing as I currently only own 1 pop and it has never left the box, I can say that I never take them out. In the long run of things I don't foresee myself taking any future purchases out of the box but you never know I might end up photographing them or something.

I never remove mine from the box. Except the ones I want to display. Which is all of them
I actually do have a bunch stored in their boxes, would love to display them all but I'm getting their displays built at a much slower rate than Funko is making new ones that I must have, so Funko, please quit making Pops until I catch up

Some of my Pop!s are in-box, some are out-of-box, but they have all been out of their boxes at some point. The ones I keep in-box I still like to look at close-up now and then, and when I first get them, I like to check out all the details.
There is one exception, and that's the Loot Crate Exclusive Doc Brown. I just haven't got around to opening his box yet, as I kind of feel like I want to "preserve" him. Heh. He's just special, I guess!

I would like to say that I've never taken one out, but actually I have done it with a couple for photographic purposed. And they went immediately back to the box, haha. The Iron Throne was one of those.

I have NEVER opened a single box. The only exception was that I once got a damaged Bloody Variant box from my Walking Dead collection,(THANK YOU HOT TOPIC!), that I had delivered to the store. I was only able to swap the figure into a "clean variant" box. Still looking for the bloody box.
I can't bring myself to disrupt my OCD natural order, they look so neat and clean all stacked in my display.

I did it once and never again I bought a flocked Chewy and wanted to see what the flock felt like so I took it out of the box. The second the Pop was exposed to air it withered and disintegrated in my hand there goes $600 I thought as I fell to my knees in despair....after three days I picked myself off the floor and vowed never ever to expose my precious Pops to the harmful substance known as air.

Re: Does anyone here NEVER remove Pops from their boxes?
I want to thank everyone who's offered their thoughts on the box issue so far. For those who never take Pops out of boxes, I want to share a story with you and get your two cents. Just keep in mind that I'm not giving you a hypothetical scenario...this did actually happen to me.
I was at a comics shop a little over a week ago and happened upon Jules (Pulp Fiction). I was over the moon because this was my first time seeing the Pop in person, and I really wanted him because I already have Vincent Vega. Now unfortunately, the Pop had some sort of dried--albeit clear--chemical across his face. It could only be seen if I held the Pop at a certain angle, but I saw it so I knew it was there.
When I asked the store owner if he had any others, he said it was his last one, but the mark might be something that could just be cleaned off by rubbing it gently with his fingers. He then asked me if it were OK to open the box even though I hadn't committed to buying the figure. I thought if it could be something that could be easily cleaned off then great, so I told him to go ahead and give it a try. The owner proceeded to open the box, putting that telltale crimp in the middle of the flap, and pulled out the figurine. His attempts at cleaning the figure's face were not successful, so he offered the Pop to me with a 15% discount. I turned him down so the Pop went back in the box and back on the shelf.
Now, I realize some of you who never open your Pops have already said that what you don't know (e.g., damage not visible while the figure is in the box) doesn't bother you. But how about the rest of you? What if Pops in your collection that you purchased thinking they had never been opened had in fact been opened previously and handled without your knowledge? Would that be an issue were you to find out?

Now, I realize some of you who never open your Pops have already said that what you don't know (e.g., damage not visible while the figure is in the box) doesn't bother you. But how about the rest of you? What if Pops in your collection that you purchased thinking they had never been opened had in fact been opened previously and handled without your knowledge? Would that be an issue were you to find out?

Re: Does anyone here NEVER remove Pops from their boxes?
Tony_Funko wrote:I want to thank everyone who's offered their thoughts on the box issue so far.

I never thought of this. Now my OCD is really going to kick in. I have no idea why I do t open the boxes. They are easier to display in the box. I think I'm afraid I will tear the box while trying to open it.
I will also say I have 109 pops and had never opened one. Yesterday I got an nfl pop as an add on to a order my wife had placed. I paid 6 bucks for the pop. The box was damaged, but I really didn't feel like going through the hassle of returning it for 6 bucks. So I opened the box up and actually really like the way they look out of the box. I'm going to order a few more cheap ones that I like and have already just to display them out of the box now
