Wobbler Noob!

Postby iamthenightrider » Mon Aug 19, 2013 6:40 am

Hey all!

So ive been on the boards only in the Pop! section because thats what i collect, but tonight i went through all old school TV shows with mum and dad, and one of mine and mums favorites is H.R. Pufnstuf. We really want to get mum him in wobbler format for christmas this year. i know on ebay you can get the wobbler with the box set but i wanted to get her a proper funko one if possible? i know absolutely nothing about wobblers and im hoping H.R. Pufnstuf isnt too hard to come by! also any sites where i can get them from would be really helpful.

Thanks so much for your help, im sorry its such a stupid question :(

Great choice of a Wobbler, but you're over ten years late getting the original version. eBay will be your best hope. A reissued version was included in the DVD set. You can still get that from places such as Amazon. A couple of color variants were released at Comic Con in pair sets with Witchiepoo. Again, eBay.

Congrats Tayla for giving wobbler a chance, it is most of our old timers love. I am happy for Funko on the Pop success but there was a time this forum was geared towards the love of the wobblers. Your in luck wobblers value has tanked so you can pick up some great pieces for cheap which one time that could be seen as pricy. Good luck on the hunt!

Have the value of wobblers really gone down in the last few years?! I am more of a POP collector (surprise, surprise!) but I have started to pick up wobblers as well, mainly Batman. One thing that I gotta say about wobblers is that they are sooo much more detailed. I used to collect sports bobbleheads and have always been a fan of the spring, so I find it surprising that the value would actually go down on older, more rare pieces.

Yes Abe, they have. Even in the year that I've been collecting, the prices on some old stuff continues to go down. Of course, there are still those rare pieces that look like they're expensive, but compared to what people were paying for them several years ago, they're not nearly as expensive as they were--and I'm talking 100 to 400 per cent cheaper.

That must've sucked for those that were looking to sell their collections around that time. But I guess if you never plan on selling your pieces it makes no difference. I'm sure the same will happen to the POP line up if Funko comes out with a more desireable product.

There are hardly any stupid questions when it comes to Funko Tayla ;-)

There is a rarer version of the HR Pufnstuf wobbler that very few people know about, but this Funko dinosaur does know about it.

There is a version of Pufnstuf in which the medal on his chest that names him as the "Mayor" of Living Island is blank. The word "mayor" is omitted. There were about 30 of these pieces and I believe that they are pre-production pieces. The only one I have seen is in Dave (the Zillas) collection. I saw it before Dennis (RFD) gifted it to him.

So in your ebay searches for Pufnstuf you may want to ask the seller for an actual photo of the wobbler they are selling and verify they are not using a stock photo.

Just an FYI and good luck on your Wobbler hunting!

Kevin- I'm curious if there is yet another piece I need to start hunting-
I have this piece, that I've always considered a proto but I do suppose it would be better described as a pre-production piece as the paint is all as-manufactured from China. BUT this one, in addition to not having the Mayor type, does not have his name at the base, either. Is this the same one you speak of or is there one with his name on the base and no Mayor wording?

Argh.

Sorry for taking over your thread, Tayla. You've opened a can of worms! Dragon, actually.

Kevin-
This is not one of my hand painted pieces. But I do have a shot for comparison, if that helps:
Image
The type-less Puf on the left has darker collar/cuffs/back spikes than the actual production Wobbler on the right (and the rerelease Puf Wobbler included with the DVD continued that same lighter color scheme).
So do I have another Puf to try and hunt down? PLEASE tell me no.

If I remember correctly (pardon the cobwebs in my brain), the "mayorless" Pufnstuf is exactly like you have pictured and is not hand-painted, so I pretty sure you are in good shape and do not need to hunt down another piece. I believe there were either 30 of them or 10-12 of them (sorry cannot remember exactly right now). If you can contact Dave Goldsmith (The Zillas) then you can compare it to his. I am sure that some people have them and do not even know what they have.
