Freddy Wacky Wobbler in Fun on the Run!

Postby waltstikiland » Mon Jul 31, 2023 8:16 pm

It was so fun to see a Freddy & Proto wacky wobbler included in the box from Fun on the Run this past month.

As someone who started collecting Funko after wacky wobblers were fading away, it was fun to be able to add one to my collection.

Do you think we will see any other wacky wobblers made in honor of Funko 25 or further in the future?

It was awesome to see a new Wacky Wobbler in 2023, but it was a tribute to the beginnings of Funko and not likely to be repeated (except for future tributes). I'm guessing Freddy and Proto will be the only Funko 25 Wobbler. I'd love to be wrong, of course.

i think this was just a special occasion type thing. i do think it served as a way to showcase wobblers to newer collectors....maybe some of them are now adding older pieces to their collections.

I was hoping they would do more of these but I don't think they will. Might have been nice if they did a bank to go with the 25 years

I was hoping the in person Box of Fun would have been all Wobblers. Can you imagine all the groans from the flippers? :D

As a Pop collector and not a flipper, I would have been big sad if all there was in the box was wobblers lol

For me, the FOTR box's selling point was the wobbler lol I solely got it for that since I started collecting Funko items well after wobblers. I will say its one of the cooler releases of 2023 and hope we can see some more released this year for the 25th celebration (maybe a Big Boy)

I would wish they did or atleast release one wobbler per year. Maybe we gotta wait till the 30th anniversary to see another wobbler

I really hope we see more. I do think it's a bit of a niche category for Funko collectors. Only a small percentage of current collectors (assuming we include all Funko collectors to date) probably even care about them, and most of the ones that still do are on this forum haha. It would be awesome to see more but with a dwindling number of employees and shift in priorities, I have to agree with everyone else that it's probably not likely :(
The only who would advocate for it at this point might be Mike? I think he can get any passion project going still but who knows if continuing to revive Wobblers is on his list.
Actually makes me wonder who signed off on it in the first place and if he had anything to do with those decisions.

I do think that the new FotR Freddy Wobbler is the main piece that made the whole project worthwhile - it connected the beginning of Funko to what it is now, and yeah, we might be the minority here, but I do wish to see more new Wobblers as we go along. :)

Totally agree with everyone here.

The wobbler totally made the Fun on the Run box worth it and it was fun to see them reproduce an old product line.

Does anyone have any idea when the last wobbler was made before this one?

the box of fun definitely shouldve been wobblers. the funko community would have unanimously destroyed funko so i see why they didnt but it would have been a grest tribute. and i also feel like re-introducing the banks to funkos current audience could potentially go well and should definitely be done for the 25th anniversary

The last main-stream production "Wacky Wobblers" were around 2014--maybe?? The Rocky Racoon and Star Lord were two of the last that I remember. Brian made some special Wobblers for Fun Days, e.g., the Tuxedo Freddy up until 2015. After that, Funko started a short-lived line of "Wobblers" which were highly stylized pieces--and smaller. They were around in 2017-2018.

Totally agree with this too!

Pops and Limited Piece counts are great and all, but something that spoke more to the history of the company would have been cool!

And thanks for this info.
Definitely an interesting trajectory for the line and Funko’s shift to Pops

The Wacky Wobbler Freddy proto was truly what made the fun on the run box in my opinion. It really did bring back a piece of history from Funko. We may see it again some day but probably not soon enough. I would have completely lost it if I opened my BOF and it was filled with Wacky wobblers. What a field day I would have had getting a full set of Freddy Wacky wobblers from Fundays in today's time. I do think if Wacky wobblers ever made a comeback they could stand on their own if the numbers are limited. Maybe one day our dreams will come true!
