Funko Posters throughout the years

Postby renardchua » Thu Aug 10, 2023 11:49 am

While most of the Funatics collect the actual Funko products, I personally am a big fan of collecting memorabilia stuff as well.

Over the past few weeks, I observed that there was a sudden surge in interest with regards to Funko event posters, which I believe is mainly from the post of Becky over at Instagram - so let me try to chime in with the fun as well - and I am happy that a lot of us are in the same boat.

I mostly acquired them pre-pandemic, but during the pandemic, I have a lot of time and browsed through the boards and managed to add some pieces that I didn’t know that existed. Then, I slowly manage to frame them one by one to keep the conditions of the posters intact, the only problem is that I store them together as I have no place to hand all of them at the moment. lol lol [next goal is to have a big house to hang all of these up. lol]

Also, if there are any factual errors, or any other fun tidbits, please let me know, as I got the information mostly through the boards, and/or at that time of my acquisition.

First off, this is just Part 1 of my entry with regards to the Funko posters I accumulated across the years. The order I am placing them is roughly from the oldest to the most current one.

The Funko Wacky Wobbler Galaxy of Stars
This piece also served as the catalog for the year 2003. I think there was no official catalog that year.

For additional reading about catalogs, this thread by Kroffty below is a good read. :)

All 4 posters were below were giveaways at Barnes and Nobles during SDCC week. They were distributed together with these SDCC Shared Exclusives. For years from 2014 to 2016, I am certain is during SDCC, but for the DC poster, I am not sure if its SDCC or NYCC but is definitely B&N.

I've been such a fan of the posters since 2019 and have been working hard to try to be as complete as I can be. Becky started such an iconic trend with the poster holders and I've really enjoyed seeing everyone's collection on insta so far

Renard, great post. As you know, I love the Funko print material as well.

I wasn't really aware there were different versions of the Wild Bill Freddy poster. I checked mine and it's different than both of yours. Makes sense since Bill printed all these up at his shop.

Look forward to your future additions.

Thanks Renard for creating this thread! Can't believe I joined in the Fun a little bit late in the "game" lol So many well-designed posters already! I'm hoping I can track down some of the older ones to add in my Poster binder!

Becky, thank you for the Poster binder inspiration! It's so fun to see your idea become so trendy in the Funko swag collecting community! =D>

It would be amazing to see them at the shop if you had the wall space for them. At least with the portfolio folder they'll all be flattened (in case you did want to frame and display them eventually), in one place, and you can take it out and browse through them... rather than all rolled up and put away to never be seen.
I also got a 8.5x11 size for our smaller art prints and originals we've accumulated from cons over the years.

Inspired by Renard's initial poster list above, I also created a list of the recent posters starting from 2018 to current. I'll continue to update this list when we have available photos of the newest posters and events.

Please feel free to use this as your personal checklist and/or share with our fellow Funatics who are interested in collecting the posters. Also, please flag any posters that are currently missing from this list. I'd be happy to update and upload the latest version. Thanks so much in advance! \:D/

Awesome checklist, Marc! ;) but if for events - there’s still two more missing on your list that I have:

1.) Bella Poarch poster from the Funko Hollywood event and
2.) Dogg House poster given out during it’s grand opening. I will upload them later when I get home. lol lol

Shoutout to Becky for sharing the poster book idea for storing our souvenir posters. We've had various posters over the years all rolled up and accumulating in various storage spots, and I always loved the art but we don't have the wall space to frame and hang them. Now I've freed up a few poster tubes to ship out a few trades to help some Funatic friends out with their poster collections. ;-)

And thank you so much Marc for putting this visual checklist together. It's been really helpful with the blur of conventions and events just in the past few years alone.

What year was that? Used to occasionally go to that B&N when we lived in Seattle
