Proto vs Artist Proof, which do you prefer?

My bro in law used to get AP sodas randomly in ones he bought at HQ. He hasn’t gotten any like that in a long time.

I prefer protos more than APs because they stand out visually compared to production pieces and APs, but to each his own.

I 100% feel the same way, you can easily tell if its a proto, but AP's are suppose to be a little different from their retail counter parts, but I can never spot the differences

If I had to choose, I would say Proto because it just goes with my current collection. If I were to get an AP I would feel that rush and urge to get the whole AP set.

Hi all,

I recently picked up my very first AP or artist proof Rocksteady and was thrilled to have my very first AP. Then it really started to dawn on me that they hold similar rarity as protos, but are just more closer to production then Protos. Please note that in no way am I trying to insinuate that one is better than the other, obviously it depends on who prefers what and what you collect, so to each there own. So please no bashing here as Id like to make this as a topic to discuss and share, which do you prefer to have in your collection a Proto or an Artist Proof?


Personally only having an Artist Proof piece and no proto, this is special to me and the one I prefer. Maybe that will change, but I hope one day to get this piece signed by the CoF Mike Becker himself, as I intend to keep this piece.

For sodas I think I prefer the AP....but if it was a similar situation for pops, I would prefer the proto...if that makes sense

As more and more Soda Protos are coming out, I am slowly noticing this point. Lol now I want both a proto and an AP! doesnt hurt to dream big!

I have a Quick Draw McGraw AP soda that I won as a prize gift from Funko Soda Saturday.

I would trade it for a proto though. haha.

I don't think I've seen an AP soda... the only soda Proto I have is the one I received at Fright Night - it's Geralt from "The Witcher".... he's all black...

That is a cool one to have. AP's are around but to be honest I haven't seen many in the last little bit. Maybe they are dying out.

What are the physical differences between an AP and a Proto? Do the APs come with a can and pog? Are they fully painted?

I was lucky enough to get a soda proto from the Funko HQ party during ECCC in 2022 so I'm bias to the proto...and besides, he glows in the dark which I'm a sucker for!
