What would you consider an acceptable royalty pop if not Freddy?

Postby projectGonzo » Sun Oct 09, 2022 11:50 am

Hi all.
I know a lot of us were disappointed for not having a royalty Freddy for GOT drop.
What would you consider an acceptable (if any) royalty pop if not Freddy?

I would prefer a Freddy, but if it's a line I collect I would need to get it even if not Freddy.

For me it has to be a mold that wouldn't have made me think "yeah this looks like it could of been used as a regular pop" Since the Freddy's always look to me anyways unique.

Agreed. It needs to be a new and very different mold!

It would need to be something that’s never been made before. Even Jon Snow seems fine because I don’t think they version of him has been made before. I love Freddy and so does the rest of the community, if they stop making him I don’t think I would try and get any royalties.

Maybe a character that there isnt a million of in the line. So that would negate Jon, Dany and Tyrion in the GOT line. A Robert Baratheon with his crown wouldve been more acceptable other than some sort of Freddy. A Tyrion Freddy wouldve been nice tbh.

Maybe a color variation? But kind of like everyone else, hard to top a Freddy royalty. I'm still excited to see what Funko brings to the table.

Too many. At least a Jon Freddy or maybe a Tyrion Freddy would've been something slightly different, y'know?

I mean if I have to choose other characters besides Freddy, I guess i would be okay with a royalty of a character from our main line. Ad icons…

If it was not a Freddy, then I would say a rare character people really want or an asked for high demanded variant. But stick with Freddy, since it would suck to see a character I needed for a line that I would want. lol.

The standard was kinda set with Freddy being the royalty. But I guess any other character from the line can be it if they limited them to LE999 or so.

This. I know the Big Boy drop didn’t have a Freddy royalty, but that was an early drop and since then it has been pretty much established that royalty = Freddy. I know some people are excited about the Jon Snow royalty, but Jon Snow is not enough to motivate me to collect the royalty set.

I had to get royalty as I collect GOT and needed that Jon Snow, but otherwise it was not motivating to not have a Freddy!

The LE999 has always been the grail though, royalty ones are "limited" but at a much higher number.

When I first started collecting Pops, Freddy Funko always seemed like a big deal. So with the NFTs, royalty seems like an achievement and deserves a Pop that is kind of a big deal. If there is no Freddy, I want to see something that is a big deal for the license. I’m not sure every line has something like that - I would have preferred someone like Robert Baratheon for Game of Thrones.

New design but also special somehow - maybe flocked if appropriate. Or something like that? Since I love Jon, I had zero issue with him as royalty but would have taken a fierce flocked Ghost too!! :)

I think with GoT, it was weird that there were Freddy NFTs in the cards, but it wasn't the Royalty. I think keeping Freddy as the constant Royalty is what makes the most sense.

I think Freddy variants are the ideal royalty - they become limited print variants of popular characters. It's unreasonable to expect major characters released as royalty figures given the niche market this part of their business currently addresses. Alternative ideas to Freddy that would interest me are:

1) Jumbo sized characters
2) Unique variants of really popular characters - completists can chase them if they want, but don't anger mainline fans
3) Unique packaging of popular characters - with fun boxes to match the NFT theme + display backdrops or figure stands, etc.
4) Golden ticket royalty. Collect the royalty. Get whatever the physical pop is. But also get a chance to win something extra - rare pops, experiences, etc.

Tbh, I feel an over saturation of Freddy's will slowly lose it's charm.
It was always special to see the different limited Freddy's at cons, and rarely as (not so limited funko shop drops) but to get two different themed limited freddys a month is the equivalent of fundays twice a month.
(Especially when they have the halloween series 2 coming up basically Fright Night pt3)

So, maybe having a non freddy as the royalty every other drop now and then will give us some space to breathe a bit. (Along with our wallets too)

I kind of like the idea of Freddy being the only royalty. It gives it and him a sense of importance and exclusivity.

Depending on the set a new variant of a character we haven’t gotten yet would be great outside of lines that we heavy in pops already like Star Wars and dc

Hmmmmm for game of thrones i recon a good royalty would of been a dragon egg where it was random which one of the 3 you were sent.

Looks well it would be a dragon egg but for collectors of the show it would be really cool.

When it comes to pops over all its a little harder to chose because royaltys always being freddys is sorta cool but it will really depend on the set.

I actually liked they went a different route with this set. I prefer there to be less freddys.Freddy's.. I like that Freddy's are more rare. They are perfect for some sets and not sp great for others. But glad this set made the 1st step.

I like that Funko wants to try to do something different tbh. Has to be something that is recognized from the series theyre doing, but Freddy funko as a character is just the icing on the top for all the freddy collectors out there.
