Pulling vs. Buying

Postby DietPops » Sat May 18, 2024 5:19 pm

After opening 20 premium packs in the last drop and not finding the grail, I started thinking about pulling the redemptions vs. buying the redemptions later. I realized that pulling the redemptions makes me feel like it was meant to be, while buying makes me feel like I’m forcing it. I know it’s really just luck of the draw, but I am curious how others feel about the different options?

I have had some really rotten luck on the two recent drops that I ripped packs. But, I always just take into account that you are pretty much guaranteed nothing similar to opening any pack of cards (for lack of a better example). More often than not, it is better to simply buy what you like from any given drop instead of banking on getting lucky with packs, especially in regards to grails. The odds are really quite poor for pulling grails.

I rip packs all the time but 90% of the time it’s better to buy on the secondary market.

I recently got back into cards and buying singles on eBay has been sooo much more fun/less expensive than opening packs lol

Ripping packs is a gamble buying them is always the best choice to be honest. But if your feeling it why not, I always try to rip a pack and if I don't get anything it just mean that I need to move on

I like the thrill of pulling them and buying secondary market is always a second option. This last drop is the first I did decent at and I plan on buying the rest I need to get the Royalty. My only issue is trying to figure out how to lol. Its maddening. Every step I take i have to verify my identity and now that Ive done all that it wont let me buy USDC to buy anything. Just keeps telling me I can buy up to 0 smh ](*,)

Ripping is fun, but if you only want one thing then buying on the market is definitely a better way to avoid the headache and the wasted money of not hitting from the rips.

Always nice to rip and pull a grail or legendary, but financially it’s usually better to buy after. A lot of people just like the thrill of gambling

I feel the same way about pulling the redeemable instead of buying it.

I try to keep the pack count low because I do love the feeling of ripping the packs and the nostalgia it brings finding those redeemables, but it can get pricey chasing the redeemables.

I try to watch the fluctuation of the price point as the drop goes on and acquire any redeemables I miss before coin disbursement or shipping.
I personally like to have the snapshot happen with them in my account. It lets me have the nft card and the coin without anymore hassle. Some people don’t like selling the card with the coin.

Have pulled 3 grails from packs and have jumped and gave a little shout of joy each time ! Great memories!

I do love opening packs as the game of pulling a redeemable is really fun and as you said feels "meant to be" sometimes if it's a set I really love that has mutiple redeemables id be happy owning then I'll buy the packs and try to pull them but if it's a set that has one piece I truly love then I'll usually try to buy down the line. It ends up being cheaper that way.

I budget myself for ripping. Buying the single is the best way to get what you really want, unless you are just incredibly lucky.

The way I approach it is that I look at the redeemables. If there is only one I'd want, I just do some quick math to see if there is value there in trying to pull it (say you want a legendary, is it worth it to gamble on maybe $60 to see if you pull it --- sure). Depending upon the redeemable, they are often more affordable to just buy on the secondary market. Two considerations (and they are different for everyone). One, you might be in a state and/or country that doesn't allow crypto (so buying on secondary market isn't an option). Two, no everyone had unlimited money to gamble $60 on. If I want the set to get the grail, I'll almost always buy a few packs. And depending upon the drop, and loopbacks to get back in the queue, maybe go through a few times.

I dont rip as much as I did in the beginning, but I rather rip packs then buy redeemables on the market and if i dont get them, I chalk it up to it wasnt meant to be.

This is how I feel.
I haven't had the best luck ripping packs and usually realize I could have an extra legendary or 2 if I had just bought them outright.
When I rip, I always go after royalty too since those can be speedy at times.

yah buying after would probably be cheaper but then I wouldn’t get to yell at my laptop every time I reveal a card…”GRAIL! LEGEND! EPIC!” now I suppose I’ll have to add “ULTRA!” in the mix. hehehe

I like to do a combination. I haven't had much success in packs, only have hit one grail, so I typically will purchase in Marketplace. Packs are using just hoping for the grail and working towards the Royalty if it is for a series I collect.

Depends - I prefer ripping since it's exciting but legendaries tend to be a little more affordable to buy outright rather than depending on packs. If you do a lot of packs, getting the grail can really make or break all the packs you ripped.
