Buying doesn't give you that sweet dopamine hit like when you pull a redeemable. :wwe8:

I collected trading cards for a long time (I still do from time to time, but Star Trek only for the most part) and I love the thrill of opening packs and pulling a big card. Same thing with the NFTs, I love cracking packs and there is a thrill when you get one of the redemptions.

However, hits are few and far between and sometimes it just makes sense to buy the card/redemption without breaking the bank. I prefer the rush of getting what you want in a pack, but there is something to be said about saving time and money and just buying what you want.

I agree with what @scullysdad said, there is the thrill and anticipation of opening the packs, but I buy infrequently, so for me, buying is more practical than pulling.

I'm still waiting on an NFT line I'd want to dive into (still waiting on MOTU), but this is all really good info. And while I imagine the thrill of the hunt is fun, I might just chase the redeemables I'd want.
Keep the MOTU line coming! :cherry:

I know some people have amazing luck pulling but not me.
I just wait and buy in the after market when I think prices are best.

i like opening the packs but opening a digital pack vs one in real life is very different. i prefer in real life because i like holding the cards and the thrill of pulling a rare one is so much better in real life in my opinion. when i want just one or 2 of the redeemables i wait to buy instead of pull because it will save me money honestly. or i trade for it after the fact. it is about if i really like the NFT redeemables to me and a numbers game.

The thrill of pulling a redeemable is strong but I think it's smarter to put a set amount aside for packs on drop day and whatever you don't pull just buy straight. Maybe rip a premium once a week or so to test your luck

If you are addicted to the gambling aspect ... by all means keep ripping packs.

However if you wish to make more efficient use of your money, well then be patient and buy the redeemables you need and buy individual cards to build your royalties...

If you want a little bit of the fun of ripping packs, and also want redeemables without breaking the bank, set a budget for pack purchases, and stick to it... And if you don't score the redeemables you are after when you rip your purchased packs, then you can wisely purchase the redeemables as they bottom out on the secondary markets later. Best of both worlds...

I definitely set the budget now, ripping is fun until you realize you realize you barely hit anything

Depending on the drop... 20 premium packs at RETAIL is roughly 600 dollars... In most drops that will buy you two grails ... and sometimes more...

Don't need to tell YOU this but that's not effective as a strategy to obtain a grail.

20 premium packs and nothing? That’s crazy. I bought about $300 worth of packs and only got 2 Freddy eating Ramens. I ended up buying some commons to complete the royalty set, then sold a Freddy to buy a Franny Kitsune. After spending $300, I could’ve just bought the ones I wanted.

The last couple of NFT drops I figured out the best way was to sell my good pulls on the atomic marketplace and then just buy the redemption cards. I did that for the dark knight drop and glad I did. But I have pulled some packs where I got some drops and it is an awesome find. :freddy4:

I go for pulling packs always first and then if I don't pull it, I'd consider buying it in the market or when it gets to people's hands if I want the Pop. It's the same mentality I have for opening physical card packs. I know and calculated it's time and money saving if I just buy the chase card I want. But I enjoy the thrill of pulling the chase card and knowing that I can "potentially" pull that card out of a single pack that I paid less than $10 for. The ROI would be insane. It makes good content and I'd be more satisfied because I pulled it myself...from the source...in my own hands so I'd be happy with the results.

If I buy it from someone, I run the risk of scams/fraud, its condition is not to my preference or I feel like I'm going the easy way out and just forking the money out which becomes less satisfying.

The concept will always be popular and more preferred over buying.

I managed to get 2 redeemables out of a single premium pack. It’s tough to say pulling vs buying because sometimes you can have luck like I did and pull 2 redeemables for $30

i think if you trade/sell what you got in the 20 packs and buy the grail its just as rewarding because you made what was necessary to get what you were going for. same thing happens for the non nft/digital scene. you go to a con and get a pop you like but would rather trade for something youve wanted elsewhere

I guess it really depends on what you're hoping for. If you only want one of the redeemables, it makes more sense to just go grab that on the aftermarket. But if I'm wanting to complete the set, I like to buy some packs to get cover as many as I can and then just buy what's missing.

Personally I think it depends on the set vs how many of the items we want! If we want 1 thing we will typically just buy it, but if we want most or all then we attempt to pull. I will say there is something special about pulling your chase item yourself. It makes it feel that much more sentimental about the item once in hand! :D
