Mondo Posters - Done or Not
Hi guys I have been out of the loop for a bit. WOAH Mondo got picked up by funko Crazy. I remember years ago when I was into collecting posters Mondo was HOT HOT HOT! Now though I went to SDCC this year and was disappointed by the fact that I couldnt even stand in line to get a poster due to the lottery system. TBH I wasnt even that impressed with what they were showing off this year. Is Mondo done with the poster biz which put them on the map or are they just in a bad funko?

Re: Mondo Posters - Done or Not
I think we need to be patient with the switchover with Mondo being acquired by Funko. I'm sure we will see more posters in the future. Just might take some time.

In general i think most companies convention exclusives were pretty underwhelming
I think (but I could be WAYY OFF BASE) it has to do with the cons starting up again after all the covid shut downs
This is the first year SDCC is back in “full form” - hoping for much better stuff all around this upcoming year
Fingers crossed for us all

Re: Mondo Posters - Done or Not
I don't think they're done with the poster business at all. Mondo's known for their posters and I'm sure they'll continue to crank out good s#!t well into the future. I do think they've started to increasingly focus on records (Mondo's section of Funkoville was even designed to look like a Mondo Record Shop) and figures. Both of which are exceedingly cool in my opinion.

No they still are making good stuff. Time will tell if the quality of posters goes down.

I feel Mondo will still be able to produce quality posters. I think with partnership with Funko may help with inventory / production, having more product available for collectors.

I didn’t realize that some were not impressed with the lineup. I’m not as hardcore with it, but that BTTF was amazing.

I honestly don’t think Mondo will ever be done with designing/making posters, they’re just to great at it. And as far getting access to their booth at sdcc, they did open it up to the public that’s how I got into their booth.

Re: Mondo Posters - Done or Not
I feel things have slowed down across the board for screen prints. Other galleries I have purchased from seem to have much longer delivery times now. I'm guessing they still maybe dealing with supply chain issues. You can follow some of the artists that have collaborated with Mondo in the past and find some works in progress. I don't think quality will drop in regards to Mondo's alternative movie prints as artists need approval from the studios.

The posters I saw at SDCC were pretty cool but it was so crazy in that area that I could see being worried. The posters were still be great because Funko isn't going to allow it to drop. I would love a Superman one.

I still have a bunch of exclusive posters from DesignerCon for someone who then ghosted me. I need to see about selling them.

Re: Mondo Posters - Done or Not
Part of the problem is that many of the bigger artists that made Mondo such a big deal - and I am thinking specifically of Tyler Stout and Olly Moss, but guys like Martin Ansin or Ken Taylor - are no longer as active as they used to be or have stopped working with Mondo. That means drops are not really events anymore. If you were around during a Tyler Stout Mondo drop, you know what disappointment feels like
I think Mondo is fine, they still do good work and have a lot of good artists working with them, but we are waiting for that next crop of big deal artists to come along.

Did anyone grab the short printed new Spiderverse Matt Taylor poster? I missed out. Ordered the timed edition as a consolation prize.

Re: Mondo Posters - Done or Not
Having absolutely nothing to do with the purchase by Funko, Mondo's poster design quality has been in serious decline for years. I used to be a hardcore collector and back in the heyday there would be a new one every week that was a "must-have". Now there's one every couple of years... Olly Moss got out of the game, Durieux is seriously hit or miss and I think Mondo had a falling out with Tyler Stout who has been churning disappointing stuff on his own. At least it's made it easier for casual fans to acquire some of these? Phantom City Creative is still killing it, and even though they're not for everyone, I do love We Buy Your Kids' designs a lot of the time.

So sad. Posters are what made Mondo who they were. I cringed when Funko first purchased them and now we see why.

Wow, that's surprising. There have been a few interesting moves that Funko has made the past few years, makes you wonder if they just tried to get too big too quick or just some bets that didn't work out.

Hopefully with the take over and now lay off of mondo that this isn’t a permanent thing! I’m hoping once funko get the ship back right that they will utilize mondo to do even more to extend the funko brand. But all I’m all I hope the posters are permanent removed from the catalog.

Glad to hear that. Sad to hear that most of the og staff was let go, but am glad to hear that it isn't the end of Mondo art prints.
