I liked the promise of the Cult Leader Monkey, but hated the paint scheme.

When I got one damaged and decided to do the touch-ups myself, one thing led to another and this is where I ended up.

It's nothing compared to the work Funkolicious does, but I like it well enough.

He's posted tips here and there on the board. I've picked up what I could from them.

Primer - check

Multiple applications of thin coats of paint - check

Having Bob do the painting for me - unchecked.

I don't have an airbrush, and would have no idea how to use one if I had it, so my biggest problem was brushstrokes. Especially on his robe. I used a metallic paint and EVERY brushstroke showed. At least I have most of them running in the same directions so it looks intentional.

Also trying to paint the tie under his chin. That was really hard.

Squird, if you can draw a straight line, then you can airbrush.....and I know you can draw a straight line better than me. :D

An airbrush is important though when painting large areas.

Now to convince my wife that I have to have an airbrush.

Actually, my next project is to figure out how to create an acrylic tube for Spastiks.

I know I can buy clear PVC pipe and I can buy caps for the pipe. But I want to be able to show stuff like the Pop Monkeys in a tube and not have them rattle around. I'm thinking about using a dowel rod, but then I have to figure out the best, most elegant way to affix the dowel rod to the base.

I may not have been posting much lately, but I have been thinking.

I also want to figure out how to 'chrome' a monkey assassin. I think that might look pretty cool.

Chrome would be awsome. Might have to dip him in mercury - tad poisonous however! #-o

I did something in chemistry ages ago about coating things in copper maybe it would work with aluminum or something? I'm go investigate! TO THE LABS!
