After One Day of Collecting Mystery Mini's I May Be Done..
So I guess I am just curious as to if what happened to me is normal or just bad luck.
I was happy to see Barnes and Noble carry the new Domo + DC Mystery Minis.. they go for 5.95 and my store had 6 of them on the shelf. So I picked up 4 of them....
When I got home and opened them.. 3 of the 4 were the same exact one. This just totally took the desire to buy anymore out of me. I realize part of it is the rush of not knowing but come on.. 6 on the shelf and at least 3 of them were the same??
So my question is what do you guys do with these multiple minis and what keeps you motivated to keep buying? Do you just sell or trade the duplicates?
Anyways I know this is the Pop section but there is no forum for the minis and we do have a thread stuck here about Mystery Minis.
So just bummed and curious about others experiences so far..

Hmmm it sounds like bad luck!!And sorry to hear that that is $10 down the drain if you get the same ones, and by the way do you mean the DOMO ones dressed as Dc or Domo and the Dc Universe minis??

I've seen threads where people usually trade them. I've never bought them because I don't like risking ending up with the same one.

Re: After One Day of Collecting Mystery Mini's I May Be Done
This has happened to me numerous times in regards to vinylmations and they cost $12.95 a blind box. With my Vinylmation doubles I trade & sell them (mainly trade them). What keeps me going is the thrill of the hunt. There have been many of times where I was trying to blind box a series and I kept blind boxing a certain character. Sure I got frustrated about it and would say to myself no more blind boxes, but I would always go back because of the thrill of possibility of blind boxing a chaser or variant
I would assume as more series are released more folks will have some funko minis to trade, I know I will once I get my Disney & DC case. I'm also kinda in the same boat with you, I have 2 doubles of the Pocket god series that I am hoping to trade for another Funko series

Just so you guys are aware the minis are vinyls so technically you can start any discussions in that section. Confussing isn't it!
Yes, we do have the trading post and anyone who is interested in trading take a look at the rules and send me the info and I can post it for you! Again, the trading post is in the Vinyl Section.
Hope this helps!!!

I collect the kidrobot Futurama and Simpsons figures as well, and yes you get a lot of doubles, out of the first 9 of the Futurama ones I got 6 of them were Leela's. No one wants Leela, I couldn't even get friends to take them. I have also probably gotten at least 10 Fry's by now. I have gotten the most rare Robot Devil, but still no Zoidberg. You are honestly better off straight buying open blind box characters off of Amazon or Ebay, you will save a lot of money in the long run, especially since it is cheaper a lot of times to buy them opened than it is to buy the closed box.

I'll take one of those Leela's off your hands. I have an extra nibbler or a kidrobot 8 deadly sins "lust" labbit for trade.
I really hate blindboxes in general. I'll probably buy a box of the walking dead minis when they are released. But I really do hate these things.
My strategy is to buy one at a time until I get a dupe. Once I do that I'll try to pick them up off of ebay/amazon or trade them.
I ended up pulling 3 nibblers in a row from the b&n near my house. That is what made me start buying them separately.

Re: After One Day of Collecting Mystery Mini's I May Be Done
Blind boxes are a fickle pickle. I always pull a really good one on my first buy, then get the same three or four. First BB I bought was a Flanders as the Devil from the first Simpsons set. The next three were: Sideshow Bob, Lisa, Lisa. When all was said and done I think I pulled five or six Lisas out of the dozen or so boxes that I bought.
Then there was the Futurama 'Mom' that took over a year to get rid of. It happens.
Depending on the series, I'll either cherry pick the one's I want off of Ebay/Amazon or buy blind boxes until I get tired of stockpiling the same characters.
Fortunately, there are people out there who'll trade/buy it.
Right now, I need to find an inexpensive Jesse Hernandez Kukulcan from the Apocalypse Series. He's one of the common figures, I can't believe people are looking to get 20 bucks for him.

There will always be lots of duplicates. Look at the ratios and the number of different designs. 14 designs and 11 are relatively 'common' (2/24 and 1/24). Not enough variation to make it worth your time buying them one box at a time. If it were me, I would look for people selling batches on ebay.

This is how I plan on buying them.I don't have the money to drop all at once on a case just to get a bunch of the same ones.I'd rather buy people's extras to at least try and get as close to a complete set as I can.So everyone can keep me in mind when it comes to DC Domos & the regular DC ones coming out.I'm getting ready to buy some Disney ones off of someone,so I'm looking for the ones I don't get also.

Re: After One Day of Collecting Mystery Mini's I May Be Done
i love the figures but im not a big blind box collector. that being said im lucky as the comic store i shop in opens a few and lets people trade there doubles for ones there missing. i bought 6 dc domo blind boxes and got doubles of 3 figures. but i was able to trade them and buy a few others that were already opened and eneded getting all but the 3 rare ones which i found on ebay.
i bought a case of the disney and eneded up with 9 doubles i gave them away here in the contest thread and will look for the others on ebay or b/s/t section. ive since been able to track down the 1/144 winnie the pooh and tinkerbell but there others im missing i havent seen anywhere yet

Re: After One Day of Collecting Mystery Mini's I May Be Done
I love all of these blind box vinyls, but find it very difficult to buy something when I don't know what I'm buying. So for me, no blind boxes
Suggestion to Brian - for those of us who are just as fanatical about the condition of the box as we are about the toy, how about putting these in boxes with regular flaps so the boxes would not have to be damaged to open. The mystery can still be achieved by placing a sticker seal over the flap. The sticker could be the entire length of the side of the box, and could be slit cleanly with a knife without damaging the box.
I know this may add a cost to the production of the product, and that there's always the concern that some shoppers would go slit crazy in the stores, but they could also slit the boxes as they are now being made.
Just a suggestion.
FYI - I have a terrible time selecting a container of blueberries or strawberries since there is only so much I can see through the packaging. I hate surprises when I eat fruit.
Funatics..... comments???

Re: After One Day of Collecting Mystery Mini's I May Be Done
One of the biggest rushes with collecting blind boxed figures is the unknown. That being said it is also the biggest struggle for people to get over when collecting them. Most comic or specialty shops have at least one opened and on display. This way if you get a double you can exchange it. That is never going to be the case at B&N. There are plenty of places to trade it including the Funko trade forums. You can always try to sell here on the Funko forums or on ebay.
It would seem that you really REALLY had a run of bad luck with your pulls. I have had two of the same figures when buying only two before. It really sucks and again may hinder your future purchases, but there is always a way to unload them.

The risk of $6 isn't that big of a deal to me. I trade my dupes on Facebook. However, getting a 1/144 for 5.95 is worth it!

Re: After One Day of Collecting Mystery Mini's I May Be Done
Well, I disagree about changing the packaging. I come originally from the world of Vinylmations where people poke their finger through boxes to "feel" the mystery figures. When Oswald (with rabbit ears instead of Mickey ones) was a chaser, the value of that chaser shot through the roof. Then ppl starting "cherry picking" the chasers making them harder to find except on ebay.
I think the shrink wrapped individual boxes is ideal. With each figure shaped differently, buying them at comic book stores and Barnes and Noble would be horrible in my eyes.
I know many like boxes but I don't really care. (I have 4 huge boxes in my attic full of Pop Vinyl boxes). My wife said cardboard was not a decor and ordered them gone. LOL

Re: After One Day of Collecting Mystery Mini's I May Be Done
When it comes to boxes, I would be sitting on the fence. When I purchase something, I do not open it. I make sure the box is the best I can get. However, when it comes to the blind box figures, I know not to worry about the boxes. I may keep them for storage later, but I know I am going to rip the top right off.
Maybe later on down the line, the sets (minus the chase figures) can be put out in POP! style window boxes or even on blister card/ clam shell packaging. This way you can buy what you want, and still have the box in the best condition possible.

With my second case, I began opening my boxes at the bottom. Thus, if I display the boxes, the tops still look unopened.

On blind box items, I only keep the box to ship them to their new owners. I see no reason to display a 3.5 inch figure with a box or on a box or with the box in the background. Too small to matter (to me).
I really don't think the box matters with this kind of collectible.

Re: After One Day of Collecting Mystery Mini's I May Be Done
I work at B&N and we got these in. I've been buying a couple here and there, and today I was going to buy the last three we had left. I didn't pull them aside and some girl came to my register and bought one. I explained to her how I collected Funko and asked her to open it because I was curious. She had the 1/72 Batman. SO SAD. I should have snagged it while I could. The regret...
And just to add salt to the wound, I bought the remaining two and got a Robin duplicate. YES. Live and learn! :P
