It works really well. Just don't try so hard. If the corner isn't easily popping out, then try a different one.

Normally open through bottom with a credit card.
But sometimes the top of a box is a little bit looser then the bottom, so I use the top then.

I use a butter knife to open the lid if I’m concerned about keeping the box nice.

I just use a credit card and open from the bottom. Makes it super easy to get the pop out.

I like using the back of a butter knife instead of a credit card. Let's you reach further into the box so you can gently push the flap down out of the way if needed. And I always go from the bottom of the box.

I also put a tiny but of pressure on the opposite corner when the flap is really hooked on the side panels. Never takes too much, but greatly helps them pop open easier

I like to flatten boxes for signatures, so I remove Pops all the time.
If you are like me and really like to be extra careful, this is how I open boxes (I am probably more anal about it though than most).

I actually use a wooden tongue depressor, but anything thin, flat and sturdy will do.
As far as the top or bottom, it doesn't really matter to me which one I open as long as it comes off the easiest.
The main thing I look for is a corner where the side flap is the least "locked" by the top or bottom flap (I'm sure there is a better way to describe this, but if you look at a box, you will know what I mean).

So, let's say I am working on the bottom flap and I notice the right side flap is not locked over the side flap as well as the others.
I will insert the tool I am using underneath the right side corner and slowly lift the corner upwards.
Maybe I will have to shift the box to the left and right a little to ease the flap out.

Once I am able to lift that right corner pretty much out of the box, I will take hold of that right corner and slightly pull it directly to the right to unlock the left side corner (and vice versa if I am working on the left side) so I can lift the entire flap away from the box.

BTW, I am not shifting, pulling, or lifting with enough pressure to tear, crease or bend the box.

Anyways, practice makes perfect and good luck!

I personally dont like to open them myself. I get too nervous. If we need to open them to fix. Then my husband helps me with the card technique.

I have feeding tongs for reptiles that I use to carefully "pop" the bottom of the box out without damaging the "wing" pieces.

Personally I think you gotta have skill to do this. I try all the tricks dn I feel like I still mess of the box. Tried from the bottom but I still bend the fold. That's why I just keep them in the box and call it a day lol. But u would like to have a method to check my pops themselves better.

Gloves and one of those plastic scrapers used to clean pots and pans. Also could try one of those tools used to apply phone screen protectors. Key is to get as much surface area covered when trying to open it rather than a small flat tool that would leave dents/creases.

I use a letter opener and then go to the opposite side to push the tab out if it's stuck. That will loosen one side. And once that one comes out. The other side normally pops out easily

I use a scimitar shaped letter opener and “hook” the corner of the box tab to gently release the cut part of the flap on both sides to then easily slide the box open.

I open my pops from the bottom and I use a butter knife. I also take my sweet time because the tab tends to get caught and I don’t want to rip it or damage the bottom. After I open the bottom I lift up the folded ends up and then lift the box and let the pop with the insert slide out.
