good question, each collector are unique to their own personal liking. I used to buy a line that I really liked and had a gut feeling it would be hard to get later on; example, when Finding Nemo first released, it was merely impossible to find mint condition boxes, since the Hot Topics I searched for them was severely damaged, as a collector, box condition matters to me.

An another good example that would be is Beavis and Butthead, hardly saw it on any retail shelves, just the after market.

So nowadays-- it really depends on the line, and how much you're willing to shell out (to pay). I can tell you, this much, from collecting such a long periods of time, now on and off, and only buy what I really like ... its hard to tell if I should wait or not, but I had missed a lot of opportunities by doing that also; which is good and bad, good because money is being saved towards responsibility spending, and the bad because I forgotten about it and the resale value just went up too much for my own liking too.

Hope this gives you some insight ... cheers
Collecting since 2010

Besides con-stickered ones, I feel like you can wait for most MHA pops to go on sale, go cheaper from resellers, or to get a variant. I took a step back from collecting MHA to wait things out. When they early vaulted the original Tenya, it kind of triggered that FOMO in me and led to a slippery slope.

Considering I have over 10 tote boxes full of pops, not including all the ones in the living room, both bedrooms, dining room, and computer area, yeah, I'm pretty much sticking exclusives and leaving the commons alone. If we move to a larger house that could change.

I really should wait to save up for when I need to spend Hot Cash or Box Lunch Money and get the commons then, but similarly, I missed out on retail priced Dabi because I thought there would be a ton around. I went to Hot topic and saw a dozen there and walked away.

Commons held on long enough become vaulted too. I've gotten more into the habit of buying because I like the common rather than just to complete a set.

I'll pickup commons to keep lines complete and the occasional OOB lot from a sale if it's something that's harder to find or way more expensive in box

Judging by some of the photos I’ve seen, I’m thinking space is becoming an issue for many.

For some it's always an issue, once you get into the bigger collections especially.

When I go to comic shops, retail stores, and other places that sell pops, i'm usually overwhelmed by commons and rarely even look anymore to see what's out there. It's chase, nft redeemables and exclusives for me nowadays unless I see a bargain or something as a gift.

More commons have hit my shelves in the past two years then exclusives, with the eevelutions and the she hulk set. I think the last few exclusives iv piked p have been target exclusive comic covers, I don't think there has been a show exclusive must have for me in awhile.
The secondary market and the buy sell trade shops have killer prices on commons which has been nice to get my niece and nephews collections started.

I bought my first commons in quite awhile - had to get all of the What We Do In The Shadows Pops!

I don't regret it!

But otherwise, I pretty much only buy stickered exclusives....

Facts I feel the same way about this. The Commons out there are in bulk or damaged or have a tag from the store that's going to leave the sticker on the box.

Don’t care if is common or chase or sdcc exclusive
If I like something I will buy it
If there are variant choices I prefer the GITD variant
That’s all

Commons are relative no? Really think its in the eye of the beholder...once upon a time, the Sunny in Philadelphia pops could have been considered commons (I saw them everywhere) but the set means the world to me that I have it (grails in my eyes) LOL

I like many others have the space issue. But I buy whatever knocks my socks off regardless of stickers or space. If it’s cool and I really like it I don’t care if it’s limited or common.

I've slowed down my buying commons a lot, but still pick them up occasionally. Battle Droid will likely be one. I'd say 80-90% of the ones I do buy nowadays are exclusives

I have slowed down too. Just haven’t been many releases that have needed. The Battle Droid and a few of the other TPM Pops are the first must buy’s in a long time. I enjoy the commons as much as the exclusivea.

The commons are also great for gifts and donations. Easier to take out of the box and appreciate.

I usually only buy commons when I want to complete a set or when I’m really attracted to a specific mold and even then I kinda wait until I see discounts. Funko hasn’t been as active as far as vaulting lines. I feel like that used to happen more often in the past and there was kinda like a rush to go and get what you want otherwise you were risking not getting it at all. This new era is more laid back and you can move at a leisurely pace to get what you want whether that’s waiting a year or two year or maybe even three to get a line that you want. It’s seldom that things vault quick nowadays and even when they do, they don’t rocket quick so you can just cop from secondary if it’s something you can’t live without

Lately my bf and I have gotten much more picky with the pops we get because we are completely out of space.
Definitely feel like selling off some of our basic commons to make space for future releases…
Bf already has the cheech & Chong pops on pre-order & we have tickets to sdcc this year so … yikes!

Yeah I feel like a few years ago, when something got vaulted, everyone started buying whatever stock was left and upped the price in the aftermarket. Nowadays most pops are out long enough, I think people are more surprised that they’re not vaulted. There are a few speculators on social media that try to make a big deal out of vaultings, but kinda feels a very niche part of collecting now.
