Re: Is black light dead?
Blacklight is not dead for me, but I just have been very selective in what I get now. I have always enjoyed glowing things. Definitely a lot of characters I would want to see in blacklight.

Remember a while ago when they were pumping it out as fast as they could and now its just small numbers. I think it might of been detrimental pushing so much out all at once because it diluted the collectors field and suddenly there was one for every character.
I gotta admit i did love some of them but then it got a little to much.
What's your thoughts?
I wasn't a fan of the blacklight pops to be honest. I have to agree with you, it was a bit of an overkill. Until I saw blacklight 2 face and Penguin. I really want those 2, but I'm hoping they go down in value. So it doesn't hurt my wallet as much when I pull the trigger on them.

Would love to see the Gundam line as part of the black light series. But like others mentioned ...it does feel like overkill.

I think it is a combination of them making blacklights nobody really asked for (I am talking about Blacklight Sylvie and Shuri for example), and just the color choices they made for them don't really standout or look just plain bad (again Sylvie)

Yeah I definitely think there was too much black light that was released. I felt they really needed to slow down.

with these new variants i think they need to be more selective about picking what is blacklight. if you blacklight everything, how is that different from a regular pop.

Just like anything, most things have their phases in and phases out. It happened with ad icons, anime, etc, things are hot for a bit and as they get diluted people get bored. Doesn’t mean it’s bad but things get boring

I generally like the black light Pops, but I feel like I'd have to build the right shelf/lighting setup to get more into black light. Otherwise, it just feels like an alternate colorway haha

I like matching them up to the normal counterpart, but only for specific ones - which helps keep it kinda special!

I definitely agree with the GitD part. I don't think Blacklight is good on every pop, but I wont say no to a glow in the dark haha

I don't think it's dead, but I do think they went overboard with what they make in blacklight. It's the same story with Funko... they see something that sells and they are going to go nuts producing more than they should. Sure they can make a quick buck, but I think it hurts the long-term popularity of the concept.
^This. Same story goes for the chrome line when they released every Batman in a chrome variant. I think the blacklight peaked with the Fundays event, but ever since then, just doesn't have the same appeal as it once did since they made every pop under the sun with a blacklight version it seems like.

Re: Is black light dead?
There will be some releases...especially around Halloween, but I doubt it is dead. Just a case of too much too fast. That seems to be a reoccurring theme with Funko with ANYTHING that becomes popular.

This feels like the best description of the black light Funko Pop trend, honestly. Too many black lights to the point where they're not really unique anymore.

There are so many more opportunities for blacklight variants/characters but I guess Funko isn't that creative.

I personally thought the blacklight was cool but I guess it depends on the specific character if it makes sense to have a blacklight version of it

Re: Is black light dead?
I think Funko burned people out on the black light cause of the way they were pumping them out. Now it’s just here and there. Some people still like them as for me what stopped me from buying them was when I bought a pop and a month later there was a black version of it. It’s now a pick and choose which looks better cause not all pops look good in black light.

I'm with you. They pushed Blacklight so hard, on so many characters, that it didn't make sense anymore. Pretty much killing the idea of what made it special. They kind of did the same thing with eight bit, and now retro. I would tell them that if they're going to do something like that again, make it make sense. Quit flooding the market, and instead make them rare.

Yeah, I didn’t really have any interest until I was lucky enough to get in to FunDays 2022, and two of the team prizes were black light Freddys. Those Pops were so good it basically turned me into a BL fan.

We have an entire hallway lined with shelfs and pops, my roommate went and moved all of the blacklight and gitd ones to the front. Replaced the lights with blacklight so it’s always glowing in there. Hope they didn’t stop them because they’re definitely loved

Yah I think they are being more selective about which BL funkos to make after seeing so many of them not take off as they had initially had hoped.
