I was curious if anyone here has ever given someone a Pop! in hopes they would start collecting. I have definitely gifted a fair share of them but I don't think I have converted any into Funatics up to this point.

I sure have - I have given three different friends of mine Pops, and when I go by their places I still see those Pops out, but that's as far as it went

I gave one of them Sugar Bear which is an S tier Pop, so if that didn't convert him he's not coming around.

I gave a pop to someone once and now they own a glow chase clockwork orange so yeah I guess you could say I converted them.

Edit: the clockwork was not the one I gifted

I've given a bunch of Pops to family and friends over the years. I have converted 5 so far...

The way it usually happens is that they find out I collect. Then they start seeing them everywhere like Walmart, Target, the local tire shop. Then they ask more about them and I get them started with a welcome package. From there it's usually downhill because they start finding more and more lines that Funko makes and they love them. Slippery slope, we all start the slide somewhere.

I believe I have started at least a couple collectors on the path. I also have family that contact me a lot when shopping to show me the pops they see because they see them in my house.

My friends and family won't let me convert them. Lol

They have a few pops they like and sometimes ask me to keep an eye out for certain ones but don't want to "collect" them. I think they've seen my enthusiasm and don't want to commit

I got one buddy into it via taking him to NYCC and teaching him my ways, fast forward about a year and he’s selling his collection of about 100 pops because “he got in waayyyy too deep”.

I got a little bitter because he didn’t ask if I wanted to buy any of his pops before he sold them.

My most successful story along these lines, I purchased one for a friend after he'd seen mine. So it wasn't a gift, just me putting in the work to track down the original pop he wanted. He started a small collection, but it ended when they redid our work space and took away his display area.

The friends I've gifted pops to enjoy the pops I've gifted, but rarely take it beyond a few pops. Most of them actively resist it, tbh...probably because they've seen my pop room. They know what this can lead to!

Great topic though, can't wait to see what everyone has to say! Hopefully they've had better success than I have!

A good friend of mine was actually given a 'free' bible and a free pop in the same day (after a Conan taping) and he definitely preferred the Pop.

Giving pops is my go to for gifts, haven’t been really successful on any conversion but that doesn’t stop me. I still give them.

i feel like I've already said this this week to a similar question but I bought my wife the wizard of oz set years back thinking this would get her into collecting with me but to no avail. I have since assimilated this set into my collection (still hers technically tho )

Yes! I’ve gifted pops to my in laws and they started collecting from there!

For sure! I host pop swaps in my town and have given out pops to people who saw my booth and not even know what pops even are they just thought they looked cool! It for sure brought a smile to their face!

Yep! it worked too!. They had already collected 10 more by the time i saw again. Also trying to get my kids interested but i have a few more years for that.

I gift pops to a lot of people during the holidays. Most of them I know don't have any but are fans of whatever property I'm giving them. In the back of my mind, I always hope that it ignites the collector fire in them. It's happened a few times. One person even got very into Funko (Loungefly specifically) because of it.
