Is Diecast dead?

Postby mouth662 » Tue Feb 14, 2023 4:36 pm

Just wondering your thoughts on diecasts future. Seems like they put the brakes hard on this line as of late and we haven't had a release in a while. I personally really liked them at first and was excited to see where they went with the line, but I think the ugly/lazy chases slowed it down enough for people to realize just how expensive they are. Sadly I think they're done for.

It's a nice line for sure. But chasing the Chases gets expensive really quick. They are beautiful to display but they kinda don't look right next to a regular Pop. And they are heavy. I'm having a hard time find decent spots that will support the weight. That being said, I think they will do a few more but eventually will die (no pun intended) off like some other Funko lines.

I think they’ll still make more, but they need to decrease the production numbers. I’m not a big fan of the chase.

I think they will be more selective with the ones that they make, and funko is choosing with more care.

I don’t think it’s dead I just think they putting out too many too fast and with the higher cost point it’s hard for collectors to keep up. When this happens people get more choosy and get what they really really want instead of everything. Well I know that’s the case for me at least. With so many things hitting it’s like i gotta choose what i want and the Chase has become less important. I personally don’t need one as long as I have a common for things that have a high price point since I’m very unlucky.

Same here, gotta be picky now with so many items being released so I only have the regular and chase vader and boba. Still hoping we get to see other lines.

I feel collectors enjoyed them at first but fell off due probably to the price and really not the best chases

I think occasional die-cast drops will be fun though moving forward for famous characters. :)

Me too. With the premium feel and display potential, they should definitely continue the line and use ultra-specific characters/moments to really give it the feel of exclusivity.

Totally agree with you, Ultra-specific characters/moments; like imagine Rocky Bronze Diecast!!! That would be sick.

I don’t think the line is completely done with. Maybe changes to the line are in play before the next announcement/drop is made. I don’t know, just thinking out loud. lol

A bit early to ask if the line is dead or not. I’m pretty sure I saw a Disney die cast just recently announced too.

i think there is a new one coming out soon. So i dont think there dead but they defiantly slowed down which isnt a bad thing imo. one issue funko has always had is making to much and putting it out in a short time. so a slower release aint a bad idea imo.

Just me, I think the best one they made was Iron Man (some pun intended) due to it being an updated sculpt from the 1st Avengers movie. The chases, I personally was not a fan of the look and I know a lot of people preferred the common. I'm okay with the die-casts, I would just want a new sculpt of a characters they are doing. Mickey mouse for the Disney100 is coming out in the near future but with a $50 price point, I am glad to see it slowed down a bit.

Yeah, decreasing piece count would help increase interest IMO. Maybe chill with the chases too haha.

I think it was a great idea but the pricepoint for customers is a bit on the higher side of things considers their counterparts are close to 1/4 of the price.

Additionally, the chase variants didn’t seem that special either. I’m sure the mold for the die cast played a part in it - much hard to make a different pose for die cast molds than it is for plastic injected molds.

This is a great point. Funko made its mark at the ~$10 price point for a collectible that may hold greater value later. The die-cast go into the area of like Tamashii Nations and S H Figuarts lines, which imo offer a better bang for your buck.

They need to do something about the Chase variations. They aren't that exciting and I almost always prefer the regular variation to them.

Yeah, looks like they are selling like they had hoped but may also be the case that they are producing too many. I have gotten a few but they do come with a slightly hefty price tag.
