Prices
I am a relatively new Funko collector, focusing on POP! I started about October November of last year. I have bought, sold and traded and now have begun to focus my collection. The Point: wtf is up with these figures going for $100 a piece on eBay? It's upsetting even as a new collector to see pieces valued for sentimental or simple pleasure of owning being grossly overpriced. I love pop figures but I can't see going over $50 on a 1/480 and that is top dollar. Today I see monsters Inc big 3 for $300, chase penguin $200, chase batman and robin $130, and don't even mention Loki. Just frustrated that I feel the inflation is related more to flipping than enjoyment.

Re: Prices
My question is why are they so hard to find ? That's what's driving up the prices.

Re: Prices
Not a big fan of this either. A lot of it is supply meeting demand...some of it is ebay sellers trying to figure out what's the most they can get out of a sale. If pop collectors collectively decide that the prices that are being asked for are too much, then they'll go down. But as long as people are still gobbling up Boos and Lokis for 100 bucks, that's where the prices will stay. I'd be surprised if that seller actually sold the batman/robin and the penguin chase for what he's asking.

Re: Prices
If you have any item that is on demand there is a premium. Right now pop are extremely hot and there is more demand then supply. Its like when people were paying $5000 over sticker price for a Toyota Prius. When gas went down and less people wanted it, it sold at normal pricing.

Ok guy I ask this ? to Brain about Loki. He said the deal was the contract, they will not make anymore Loki. The were able to make this pop up to only a certain time after the movie cames out and no more. So how ever many the made that all that will exsist. Hope that help answer any of your qestions.

I agree, not so much listed on the box or anything, but just put a page up on their site for people to use as a reference guide.
As for Thor vs Loki. Id assume they made many more Thor then Loki assuming Thor is much more popular/liked then Loki, Rightfully so.

Now THAT would be a great idea. On another similar note, WHY ARE THERE SO MANY FREAKIN' GREEN LANTERNS?! I could have bought 60 Green Lanterns by now. I can't find a single Loki. My husband just left Vegas and called the Barnes & Noble there. He missed a Loki by two days...TWO FREAKIN' DAYS! But no, I can find Green Lantern at Target, B&N, online, and at any random comic book store.
OK, I'm going to calm down now.

All of the Avengers including Nick Fury will be out in the upcoming movie, but the MAIN numero uno villain will not. Argh!!!

Re: Prices
I obviously think it is inevitable when it comes to popular collectibles... A company can't keep making the same characters over and over... So they move on to new ones... The more popular it gets, the more people want all of the characters. Sadly if you catch onto the collectible a year or so into it, you are going to miss out on some of the characters or buy them off ebay. It is only a few characters that are high right now, minus the chases and those are very tough to find.
It all depends on how bad you want a character and how much you are willing to spend on it. It is not like you can go to the store and buy it... At least Mike, Sulley and Boo...
There are still tons and tons of other wonderful pops to collect, including the new wave... And Chases go from anywhere to $50-$100... So the batman and robin chase for $130 really isn't that bad, considering they are individually listed for 69.99 a piece... Plus the Loki's that have went for $100 got that way in auction... So if you see a Loki is going for $100 why would you sell it for anything less?

Re: Prices
This is why as a toy collector you need to keep up to date on what products/licenses companies have and what is comng out throughout the year. Toy Fair and SDCC are great for that as well as different news/review sites. If you are a serious collector, you will know what is being produced and by who months in advance, even if it does not appeal to you personally.

Re: Prices
Also if you looking at the selling patterns of certain items like Loki on Ebay... You will see that they have been increasing over time. Same with the chase pieces... The alternative is to wait to find the chases on your own, spend the money on ebay ones or just be content with what is in your reach... As a newbie collector now, you are coming into it about 100+ characters already... That is a lot to catch up on, in a short time. So I can see how it can be overwhelming... Especially in a few months when another line of pop are introduced into the market...

And that's why I have stuck to buying just superheroes. That even allows me to dabble a bit in Freddy's.

but sideshow makes high price limited quanity statues. when people are spending $300 plus retail prices for a statue they want to know how many are made. and even than as of late there edition sizes have to be determined when they go up for sale. most of the time the edition sizes are not revealed until the item is close to shipping.
thats why i think we see edition sizes on the limited funko pieces but i doubt that will ever happen on the regular pieces as there mass produced toys just like action figures.
sideshow describes there statues as high end limited edition collectibles, were as regular wobblers and pops are mass produced entry level collectibles.
thats my two cents anyway

Re: Prices
The thing that a lot of you are forgetting or just not realizing because we're right in the midst of it is that Pop really took off unlike many of the other non-wobbler Funko product: the spastiks, the nodniks, etc. Funko's a relatively small toy company and can't afford to overproduce and take a big loss if a product doesn't sell. Pop was just another gamble, but this one really took off, especially in the last few months. So while much of the early Pop product met initial demand, it turns out to be in shorter supply now that so many new collectors have gotten into it. Just ask Jim - who had Thors and Lokis sitting in the store unsold for months before the demand finally surpassed the supply.

Precisely why I sold many of mine and focus on batman series, super heroes, horror and only my favorite Disney. I got caught up in the craze and had that completest mindset. Just see how much chase batman series go for and I'm not willing. I look around at about 3 b&n and other stores and have never seen a chase piece. Just frustrated and whiny I guess

Considering WB was looking to franchise the film and make a bazillion dollars, that doesn't surprise me.
