Funko Pop forever?

Postby gumbyack454 » Sat Apr 28, 2012 3:40 pm

Do you guys think that the Pops will stick around as long as the wobblers or die out like the mighty muggs did?

With the licenses and characters funko had at their disposal, pops will be around for a long time.

Well, I'm assuming that Pop has brought a lot of new fans (like myself) to funko since they started popping up. Every time I check out with one at a B&N or Target, the cashier's always make a comment about how they've picked one up or they are planning on it because they think they are so cute.

By contrast, I hadn't even really noticed Mighty Muggs until I joined this forum.

I think they will last a long, long time...their size and detail is so darned cute, easy to display...they aren't like the funko force or nodniks or funkovision.

It depends all on profit. As long as Funko and the retailers are reaping huge profits from them, they will keep making them.

I would say for a while. The thing with Mighty Muggs was they had a limited selection. They didn't have any DC,which is why I quit collecting them a couple of years ago.Funko has all kinds of variety,DC,Marvel,Disney,TV & Movie/Video Game/Cereal characters,Star Wars,Muppets,Sports,Musicians, and so on.

With all the detail of the figures versus a round ball for a head as in the mighty mugs, I see these being around for a long time, and then as long as Disney is selling them like hoecakes, you know they'll be around for a while.

Disney sells a LOT of hoecakes. So pop will be around for a long time.

yeah, mighty muggs are still around... though not so mighty anymore. pretty much everything coming out at this point are "mini muggs." there's a whole bunch of new avengers stuff out on shelves now. but other than that, the 2 most recent things have been convention exclusives.

Yup. From what I've read on their forum they are just banking on con exclusives for the full size pieces. However, they are some super sweet exclusives. Removable masks are awesome.

i started on mighty muggs from the very beginning, and have every single one. but when they died off it sorta made me hesitant to start up something else. that's why i was late getting on the pop train. and of course, by the time i did start, i'd missed out on some really great ones -- monsters being the best example -- that are now expensive. doh.

They are better than Mighty Muggs, definitely. I used to collect MMs, but they were really hard to find (just like every cool toy), I did get a Venom when it was a very rare Mugg, though.

Now I'm starting to think about selling most of my MMs so there's more space for Funkos.
