Keep Funko Box, throw away plastic insert?
I asked a while ago if I should keep my boxes or not because of space. One person recommended taking out the plastic inserts, stack them, labeling them with masking tape and fold the boxes flat, to help save space. I did that which worked for about 6 months. Now I am running out of space again. I was thinking about getting rid of the plastic inserts to save on space, but keep the boxes folded. I know I must have close to 300 funkos. I don't want to get rid of any of the figures. Funko keeps showing new Funko pops coming out in the future that I want. I'd like to keep the plastic inserts for resale value, but I am at the point where it either stop collecting funkos or throw away the inserts. Any opinions?

Throw away the inserts, might as well chuck the box too in my opinion.
I keep mine out of the box and only hold on to boxes if they have a chase/exclusive sticker on them. We'll see how long even that lasts....

Don't throw anything away if your planning on selling one day because it will decrease there value. But if your never gunna sell you might as well get rid of the boxes and inserts

Toss the inserts. I toss 95% of the boxes as well; I only keep them if the Pops were exclusives, chases, or ones where I think the side sketch is adorable.....
If it's all the same to you, I think I'll have that drink.

I don't understand why people display out of box. I enjoy the box just as much as the figure! Besides in the box the figure has a larger presence.

Most Pops are commons. Toss them. Just keep the boxes and inserts for the exclusives or chase.

There will be a time when your collection exceeds the space you have, and/or you lose interest and want/need to get rid of pieces. Re-sale-wise you're going to make a lot more back by keeping inserts and packaging, than trying to unload loose figures.

If you plan on keeping your pops give rid of the boxes since you are tight in space. However, if you plan on selling them they hold their value if you have a box and even more if the box is mint or near mint.

I displayed them out of the box for a few days and then couldn't take it anymore. I love the box art too much. But each to their own.

+1; not to mention dusting is so much easier on boxes rather than individual figures!
I do understand how space can become an issue tho; I need to buy a second IKEA book shelf for my growing collection!

Clearly, you haven't viewed any out of box collections. It's a vast esthetic difference to a wall of boxes.

Very true. I do love the open displays with the boxes behind the figures.

It doesn't make sense to me to throw out the plastic insert and keep the box. Either throw it all out or keep it all. If you put it back in without the insert, then it will just float around. Seems silly.

Re: Keep Funko Box, throw away plastic insert?
can you stack the inserts on each other unfolded to save some space? (i actually don't know if they are a uniform size since I'm keeping them in box for now)
I would keep the inserts as long as you can.

I do stack the inserts. They line up pretty well for the most part, some odd balls. Problem is there are to many of them now. I am a big collector of different things. The one thing I have learned is sometimes you have to look aside of what the value of something will be in the future being mint in box. Know one knows what something will be worth years from now. As far as anyone knows, one day these collectibles could depreciate. Just like any collectible, its only worth what someone will pay. I think alot of collectors look at collecting as a good investment. I do look at it that way, but I first look at collecting as just enjoying the collection I have and not getting it for its resale value at the time. I used to keep all my stuff MIB, but as you get older, you want more things. Stuff takes up space, space runs out, then you have to make the decision sell stuff or eliminate unwanted space.

Give it 20 years and all that threw the boxes away will be crying. I'm going to keep mine even if I take them out.

I throw away the inserts on all the common ones and keep it for the exclusives.

That's why you need one to display and one to keep in the box.

Re: Keep Funko Box, throw away plastic insert?
Some people collect in the box and some don't....no biggie! Some of us would have loved to keep our Funko in the box but when your pop count becomes 300, then 500, then reaches 1000 pieces the pop comes out of the boxes to make room so you can display them all. I don't know too many people who have that many pieces that can still display them in the box.
Just ask Sho...

I think both types of displays look good. Wall of boxes or displayed nicely on shelves. Each has its own cool look.
