its a fun idea but it might get complicated as it relates to licensing/costs. like who needs to get paid in order to make the tom hanks simpsons figure? both TH and Fox? do both have to sign off on approvals? just gets complicated i think...but again its a fun idea that has alot of potential.

Playmates has done a line of figures of celebs from their appearances. So it can be done.

Playmates has done a line of figures of celebs from their appearances. So it can be done.

That Playmates line was amazing and would be pretty hard to top! If anyone could do it, it would be Funko!

If you were on the other side of the equation and another entity was profiting off of your brand/likeness/name, I’d guess you’d have a different feeling about it. It’s annoying at times yes but it’s still about business at the end of the day.

It’s pretty overwhelming too, I don’t understand why they continue to make variants of the main family and not characters they haven’t done before. Even ones that appeared in one episode could be popular. I’d even like to see celebrity cameos like they have done with the McFarlane Action figures

while i agree with the main point you've made, i also give funko marketing/research ppl some credit for understanding consumer demands better than we do. having one-off characters would make hardcore simpsons fans happy (i'm in this group) but will that resonate with a casual fan? my mom knows who homer simpson is, i very much doubt she knows who lunch lady doris or frank grimes is . so when it comes times to buying the merch, i think a 3rd or 4th homer variant would sell better than lunch lady doris etc.

For example, we still don’t have Smithers, Edna Krabapple (RIP), principal Skinner, and even Abu (probably never due to controversy though). Those are all characters most casual Simpsons fans know because they’ve had multiple episodes dedicated to them and they are prominent through out most seasons. I would figure they would sell better compared to that last common wave of ancient Greek/Roman variants, which was only related to one single episode. Anyways, I know they’ll be awesome when they finally come out. At the same time; I’m certain Funko knows what they are doing, and I’m just being impatient

The amount they can do is insane. I was recently at a toy store and they had all these Simpsons toys and they honestly had stuff you would never think of. They would have characters that were only in 1 or 2 episodes. Made me realize the possibilities are endless when it comes to them.
